Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid vs prilosec vs nexium

prevacid

Avatar f tn I think it really depends on the person. I've tried Prilosec, Nexium and Aciphex, all for extensive periods of time. My # 1 all-time fave is Nexium, and Aciphex is also very effective. Prilosec doesn't seem to work as well. Just my experience.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar n tn which is the safer drug, nexium or prevacid? This discussion is related to Nexium VS Protonix.
709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar n tn So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Nexium is suppose to be a cleaner version of Prilosec. I have tried all of the acid blockers and Nexium is my last resort before surgery is necessary. While on Prilosec, I couldn't lift a dumbbell which wasn't good because I worked in a Lady's gym. Nexium...I have been on this for 6 years now and the only side effect I have is diarrhea. My gastroenterologist does not seem to be concerned because the Nexium is working for me. Nexium is not suppose to effect the joints.
Avatar n tn t allow Nexium to be sold/patented because it was so similar to Prilosec. Prilosec = Omeprazole vs Nexium = Esomeprazole, just go with Omeprazole and pay the generic copay.
1806721 tn?1554333407 I have never taken Prevacid before. Are these two the same thing? Can I use Prilosec to substitute the Prevacid in the pack? I'm scared of stopping Prilosec as my symptoms always get worse when I tried to wean myself off the drug in the past. I'm also horrified by the idea of combined antibiotics for extended time. I can barely tolerate a single antibiotic agent for 5d in the past. How much probiotics should I take to counteract the side effects of antibiotics? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Yes nexium is ok to take, i hane cirrhosis and thats what my hepo ordered for me, he did switch me to prilosec only because its over the counter same as prevacid which is also ok.............
Avatar n tn I have been taking Prilosec OTC and my Doctor prescribed Nexium. It seems to me that they are the same, with one being extremely cheaper. I am Beginning my fifth month of pregnancy and I would like to know if it is safe to continue taking prilosec otc.
Avatar m tn I get bad nausea from some of them .. so may be worth trying another brand and see if it goes away. Just my two cents as a patient ... I take Prevacid w/o a problem that is very pricy vs generic for Prilosec. I'd ask your Dr and see what he/she thinks, too ?
977806 tn?1249067346 I have GERD and just received a prescription for Nexium (have been using OTC Prilosec but after using a couple weeks of samples found Nexium worked perfect for my symptoms). I have individual Carefirst but horrible prescription plan. I just purchased 30 Nexium at $160.00! Is there anyone that has ordered from Canada online and if so do you have any recommendations for an online pharmacy. Thanks for any information.
Avatar f tn Nexium is just fine to take on treatment as is the other PPI's. My hepatologist ordered me Nexium during tx and then led me go to Prilosec or prevacid when the became OTC. And sense i'm now SVR there wasn't a problem with them.........
Avatar n tn t noticed much with the mouth but i will now be paying close attention. I have taken Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and Prevacid up to twice a day at the max dosage. I recently had an eye exam but the doc just said i had dry eye and would need glasses when I hit my 50's. Not real helpful.
Avatar m tn Is prevacid an otc item in the US? i work in a pharmacy in canada and its prescription. 15 mg and 30 mg.
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
Avatar f tn Hi! I am 38 years old. I am 5'7 and weigh 123 lbs. I exercise everyday and I am a high school teacher. I have been suffering from the following symptoms for the past 3 years : burping constantly after eatting, feeling of solid food getting stuck in my throat, sensation of excessive mucous in my throat after eatting. I basically use a juicer, eat smoothies and very soft foods. I feel like I have a "90 year old's" diet! I have been to ENT and 2 different Gastro dr's .
Avatar m tn Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
Avatar m tn Hi, Increased acid reflux per se is not supposed to cause increased frequency of micturition but the drugs used to treat the acid reflux like prilosec, nexium which come under the category of proton pump inhibitors can cause increased frequency of micturition. I sincerely believe that helps. Please do keep me posted. Warm Regards.
1387175 tn?1326400997 H2 blockers (ex. Zantec or Pepcid) are another type of medication used to treat GERD. PPI's (ex. Prilosec, Prevacid, Dexilant, Nexium, Protonix) are another class of medications used to treat GERD. H2 blockers are generally thought to be safer with less adverse reactions than PPI's.
Avatar f tn Even though medicines like nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix, aciphex, and dexilant are all very similar, sometimes you need to try many of them before you find one that works well for you. The nausea could be caused by the GERD. Are you on a GERD-friendly diet? Have you tried raising the head of your bed?
Avatar n tn Have you tried any of the PPI drugs like Prevacid or Prilosec? They keep my GERD under control and the vagus nerve quieted down, which reduces arrythmias. I can tell a real difference when I don't take the medicine. I would certainly ask for the meds instead of surgery. They are available over the counter in lower doeses and Prevacid 30 mg. is generic. I would think it would be worth a try. I too, would prefer to try the most conservative approach. Surgery has its risks.
Avatar m tn I have tried all OTC stuff, prevacid, prilosec, and aciphex. I may give nexium a shot because that seems to work the best for some people.
Avatar m tn Hello! I have a major problem with my GERD. I've had it for about 5 years, but I haven't had it treated for about 2 or 3. I've been on 3 medications for it, first Nexium, then Prilosec, now Prevacid. The Nexium helped me awhile back, but it wasn't worth the money just to help a little. The Prevacid seemed to make the GERD much much worse, and now the Prevacid seems to be doing nothing at all. I have terrible GERD. It affects me every day, all the time.
