Prescribing suboxone for pain

Common Questions and Answers about Prescribing suboxone for pain

suboxone

Avatar m tn He has closed his practice and has moved to California. I made the switch to a doctor who is brand new in prescribing suboxone. I feel the therapist does not understand or can relate to what it has been like to be an addict. When I found Suboxone it was a miracle. I only saw this facility one time in Asheville since the switch from Johnson city, and while I was there I had a torn ligament on my physically deformed left hand.
Avatar f tn You do not need a special "license" to treat patients with suboxone for chronic pain. You do need a special "license" to treat patients with suboxone for opiate dependence. In order to treat addiction patients with suboxone, a doctor needs to complete an 8 hour class in addiction treatment and then they are granted a federal waiver in order or prescribe it for addiction treatment. A quick google search will tell you, or your doctor about this.
Avatar m tn Benzo prescriptions for people taking suboxone is fairly common. Is it wise? Probably not, but it happens. He needs to stop abusing the Klonopin for the main reason that he's in danger of shutting down his breathing. Can his doctor release him? Yes (although it would be hypocritical in my opinion since he prescribed them knowing his history). Will he? I can't answer that. I think he needs to know regardless. The abuse of benzos along with Suboxone is deadly.
Avatar n tn Many do not understand the long-term ramifications of Suboxone addiction, and it is also a very lucrative business for the prescribing physician. Most doctors charge $200 - $300 monthly, per patient, for a five-minute check-up to renew a Suboxone prescription. Most places prescribing Suboxone maintenance do not offer any addiction treatment because the doctor is not trained in addiction medicine and because it is not time or cost effective to do so.
Avatar m tn If so then you may have a good plan. Suboxone can be helpful for chronic relapsers. It allows you the time to get your life in order and work on skills that you can use to stay clean later on. Just know that if you stay on the Suboxone any length of time you will need to taper off under a doctor's care and you will withdraw from it as well.
478417 tn?1208547207 I have been on Suboxone for 3 months. I became addicted to pain pills due to problems with my shoulder. I finally got a bone scan and an MRI 2 weeks ago and was told I have a torn rotator cuff and probably should have surgery. I go to an "addiction psychologist" who has been prescribing the Subs to me. I asked him what will I do if I have to have surgery on my shoulder??????????
Avatar f tn wow I will tell you this suboxone is NOT AT ALL FOR PAIN. I know I tried suboxone and I have true pain and it did nothing for my pain and I also know others that have tried also and same nothing for pain. He should have told you why switch if you ask me something is up and he thinks you have some kind of problem he the only doctor you go to....Something is not being told make no sense at all.
Avatar f tn Her DOC was oxy's by the time we were finally abe to get her to do a 3 day in patient detox. She didn't feel she could do it without being in that kind of setting. However she couldnt be convinced that she should do any after care and she lost touch with everyone. She came back around finally in March and had a recently diagnosised back condition which she was on Perc's for the pain, but said she would be dealing from chronic pain issues due to the back condition.
Avatar m tn how long should i wait after taking 8mg of suboxone 1 time a day for two weeks before i take percocet

Avatar n tn ive been clean for five days and still have rls, pain in stomach and irritability forcing me to stay bedridden! cant sleep now. please help me.
Avatar f tn Why would a Dr refuse to prescribe me subtex over suboxone for pain management if I have never admitted or reported or been caught as an opiate addict?
Avatar m tn I was on the Fentanyl 100mcg patch with dilaudid for breakthrough...up until about a month ago. I have pain that will always be here...but I am 36 years old, and I was getting very uncomfortable with the high doses of medications I was on. Also had problems with the patched staying on long enough, or the patches would last maybe 48 hrs and then I'd feel like I'd start feeling withdrawal symptoms for the last 24 and into the next patch for a few hours.

986225 tn?1249034621 but of course they didnt. Te finally decided what to give me for pain while I was in there. I guess you could say I cheated withdrawal that time because the nubane shots and fetanyl patch covered it up. I went home on the patch for two weeks. I called my Sub Dr. and told him it was time to go off the patch and ack on the Sub. So, heres my question.
752888 tn?1263248042 I just want to point out that Doctors do not get kickbacks for prescribing Suboxone. First of all, until recently there wasnt even a generic for Suboxone, so there isn't another drug in it's class to be given preference over. Secondly, taking financial incentives for prescribing Suboxone is illegal.
1800740 tn?1324237171 And you also need to be, I believe, on a lower dose than 30 mg. I think (and gnarly will post on this, I'm sure) that to go from methadone to sub, you shouldn't be higher than 20 mg. methadone. It seems to me there are a LOT of doctors prescribing suboxone that are only in it for the cash. It's something that needs monitoring, and the first dose should be given at the doctor's office.
4832551 tn?1359761830 I've been trying to use suboxone strips cut into strips of smaller than 1cm a day to help with w/d symptoms bc I heard it's harder to get off of them than opiates. I was wondering why after almost a month I am not feeling any better and still get RLS and insomnia. I am also rxd methadone that I haven't been taking since I got suboxone strips.
Avatar f tn My pcp was prescribing me 120 10mg hydrocodone tablets/month for 14 months when she suddenly decided I needed to see pain management which I have currently been at for 3 months. Yesterday I went in to have my 2nd round of injections on my neck and without warning my dr changed my medicine from the 90 10mg hydrocodone per month to Buprenorphine 5mcg transdermal patches 1 per week for 30 days. I'm extremely nervous that this is not going to help me a d a little shell shocked to say the least.
Avatar m tn I was on Suboxone for two years, off for 3 months with opiates, and now on again for a month. The itching started small after a few weeks on Sub But now I scratch everywhere there is hair and just below my knees , my back arms, and high on my butt. Don't know for sure if the drug is the cause or maybe it would have happened anyway as these skin problems can attack anyone. I itch until the skin breaks and stings. Scabs form.
Avatar m tn I will never take another pain med again. I promise that to God, on my kids, lives, my wife's life. I was recently in a horrific accident and have a traumatic brain injury. I had quadruple painful neck surgery so I didn't become paralyzed. I still wouldnt use the strong pain meds they gave. Ive been on suboxone for 5 years because I never want to go thru w/d's again.
1289146 tn?1276083338 Have no real tolerance to benzos and never really had a problem with them addiction wise just pain killers and my doc knows this. Can anything be perscribed along with suboxone for anxiety or will my doc more than likely say thats a no no and to deal with it.
Avatar n tn I am 24 years old and have been taking drugs, now I'm clean. I think I have liver problems since it hurts and now I'm concerned with hypertension because i have hearthpuonding moments and headaches. The problem is I also take suboxone, been taking for more than a year and I don't know whether this is causing everyhthing. I have also encountered anxiety with suboxone but this lately it's different and more intense. I am confused please give me some advise.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your concern, Ive considered all these thngs before I ever as the question.I was started out on 24mgs of Suboxone in the hospital,And I cut that dose in half time as I left,I was only there long enough to get on meds,I didnt feel as if it would hurt,And to be honest didnt care my objective here is to be drug free, not promote myself to buprenorphine,my lord the 400 to 500 mgs of oxycontin was bad enough.
Avatar n tn Take suboxone rather than subutex. Search suboxone doctors in your area. You know what tondo from there. It is best take suboxone while your already in withdrawal. Because if you have fentanyl in your system as you take the suboxone, the suboxone will kick out all of the remaining fentanyl in your system causing you to feel uncomfortable. So take the suboxon as your in withdraw. The physician that prescribe it would rather see you walk in the office in withdrawal mode rather than high mode.
Avatar m tn I think the suggestion to talk with your prescribing Suboxone doctor is a good one. He/she can recommend someone for you. These doctors see this every day and are accustomed to dealing with it. You have to find an OB that will taper you properly. You will need to be honest about your use to avoid CPS. Are you still taking the Percocet?
