Avatar f tn The worry is toxoplasmosis which is a micro organism which can be contained in some cats with no signs. I have 6 cats and am a veterinary technician. Have someone else clean the box or wear gloves. You will be fine.
Avatar f tn But my husband has researched worms in cats a billion times, and from what I understand, the way that cats get worms is by eating dead fleas. Worms have a two-stage life cycle. One is by being eaten by a flea, and two is being eaten by the cat. (Not sure how this works, but this is what I'm told!) So that being said, humans can't get worms from cats.
Avatar m tn This all started when I took in 2 kittens from a lady who has passed them around to a few houses trying to get a cat to nurse them. My cats did so I kept them. There were no signs because their eyes were still shut. Now that they have opened the two I took in have it the worst and online it says its from being to a lot of different homes with different bacteria. I cant loose my two momma cats or have them wind up blind PLEASE HELP I CANT AFFORD A VET!!
Avatar f tn Signs of the disease include mental retardation, eye and nervous sys deafness, lung disease, fever, jaundice and rash pregnancy can also result in miscarriage.
4715985 tn?1371582997 I just want to squeeze them so hard!!!!! omg! I put this doll in the bassinet so the cats would stop going in it. Its been there for like two weeks now and my cat Toby JUST found out about it and was freaking out!!!! He kept stretching his neck to see inside and was very cautious and every time i tried to pet him he would back up a little, like he thought he was in trouble or something.

1017158 tn?1257730640 ) most women have a higher risk of getting toxo from gardening than they do from their cats. Most toxo cases in the US come from eating undercooked meat rather than cats. As long as your litter box is scooped daily, you can markedly decrease the potential for transmission of toxoplasmosis to you. The parasite needs 24+ hours to become infective after being passed in the cats' stool. Cats can get toxoplasmosis from hunting wild animals or from digging in gardens and soil.
Avatar f tn It's the litter box. They suggest that you do not change the kitty litter. Also when the little one is here make sure the cat doesn't sleep in the same bedroom as the baby. Cats like to cuddle and there have been incidents of them suffocating babies. So get a good monitor keep the doors shut.
Avatar f tn Just adopted 2 pet kittens, not knowing they could pose any harm to my unborn baby. After reading, now I'm scared I've made a big mistake. I know I should have checked it out before but I really didn't think of it. Anyone else have kittens/cats? If so, any pointers, or am I worrying too much?
Avatar f tn s Office not long ago and was in good condition...no signs of anything being wrong (by exam and blood work - check up). However, this just began over the weekend. It is very strange. Any ideas why he would be doing this? There are other cats outside living between our house and the neighbors. We feed them. Cats seem to find our house (they must talk to each other and let each other know we are nice and will feed them, even if we go broke). Thanks ahead of time.
Avatar m tn At your cats age, if this is a new problem, he is probably ill. My last cat, was a good cat all his life until he started having litter box issues. Eventually he died from a large tumor that was affecting his being able to urinate. He also had a neurological problem that may have contributed to this behavior. Old age stuff. Observe your cat to see if there are any other signs of change. It may be the beginning of the end.
Avatar f tn There are signs there that ask people not to remove the cats, that they are working cats. There are no rats in this famous botanical garden. Also, no dangerous poisons to kill rodents (and people). A cat is not a person. A cat is a fine hunter. He should live the life he was designed for. If allowed to, he is man's friend.
Avatar f tn also my cats sleep in the bed with me ( usually near my head ) and a co- worker told me to stop having them do this. just wondering whats in the kitty litter that is harmful.
1710194 tn?1308931794 t get in. But of course the cats open it all the time and the dog sneeks in. Either way we have since found a much better solution where we can have the gate up but still give both cats total access to the littler box. Anyways, the cat's have also been de-wormed several times but I guess they got the worms again? We aren't sure how long they have had the worms and are concerned that there is a possiblity that we have contracted the worms from the animals?
Avatar f tn Have a cat. Second pregnancy too.
Avatar n tn The good news is that these signs are more common in dogs than cats, but some veterinarians are just reluctant to take the chance with long term use of steroids. Check out www.aerokat.com to see a version of a feline "inhaler" I hope this helps!
562511 tn?1285904160 Also, the queen was 9 months old and was told this growth happens more often in young cats following delivery. Sadly to say she had to be put to sleep because the bill would have been $2000.00 - for starters! So what is this condition called as described above? She can't remember what the vet said. She is devastated, as am I. BTW - her litter will be ok. They were only nursing for naps. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I personally agree with opus88, anyways no its not contageous in anyway , cats are territorial animals they fight with other cats to protect their territory or to acquire more territory. As a result, bite wounds are common in cats, especially when cats are allowed outside. These wounds frequently result in an infection that can be quite debilitating, especially if left untreated. Bite wounds are more common in male cats than in females.
1305767 tn?1361192676 My cat Sissy got outside the night of the 19th and I'm not sure how long she was out but I think she was out there at least an hour before I noticed. When I went out to look for her I noticed a black and white cat hanging around but I couldn't tell if it was a male or not when I checked (it was dark and it wouldn't give me a good look).
Avatar n tn The more exposure to light the more shedding. Cats the go outside part of the day will shed normally and grow a new coat in summer. In the fall as the days grow shorter their begins to thicken for winter. Indoor cats exposed to light may shed and grow a coat year round. When A cat with a double coat begins to shed their appearance can be alarming and at first suggest a kin disease, This is because "undercoat" is shed in a mosaic or patch pattern giving a moth eaten look.
Avatar f tn It is my understand (and experience) that on average cats sleep about 13-16 hrs. per day. We have 2 cats that are "night prowlers" and spend most all day sleeping soundly. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn As I understand it, the real danger with cats is in their poop. You don't have to get rid of the cat as long as someone else is cleaning up after it. Try to stay away from the litter box as much as possible. We had 3 cats when I was pregnant with our son. My husband took care of cleaning up after them and we didn't have any issues. I'm nearly 33 weeks and we have 1 cat. My husband cleans up after her and everything is going fine.
Avatar f tn I did hear of a cat that was spayed poorly at a clinic and later came into heat, and when a new vet did a follow-up surgery, she found an ovary that the first vet had left behind. So strange things can happen. I would take kitty to the vet's and ask if there is a possibility of a kitten in there, or if not, what is going on.
Avatar f tn I personally would keep the cat in and get a box. The biggest cause for the bacteria is from cats that go outside. Indoor cats sometimes don't even carry the bacteria. If you do get scratched then wash immediately with soap and water. People can be immune to it and you can get it from lots of other things not just cats.
