Take a copy of your human rights act to your boss manager and if she still keeps doing it maybe go to higher management. If all that fails do you have a workers union in your country we have a group of people dedicated to protecting workers rights. Someone like that may help or even try getting advice from a lawyer if there is none of this in your country. I hope things work out for you.

I had such a horrible pregnancy first trimester i was always náuseas, and would get sent home because i would be throwing up at work. Sometimes i felt sick before going and i would still show up if i couldn't take it anymore i would then tell them i was leaving. Atleast i showed up and tried to work.

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act protects things like that and establishes pregnancy as a temporary disability, making it a protected class. If they were to do that it would be discrimination and you'd have a lawsuit, which they wouldn't want to risk.

Avatar f tn I'm 38 and got pregnant 2 weeks after starting a new job so I feel your pain. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 does protect you. It means you can't be fired or otherwise discriminated against for being pregnant. In terms of leave, if your employer has any kind of short term disability benefit they have to offer that to you too. While you are out they can give away your job but they still have to give you a similar one upon returning. I went public at around 18 weeks with my employer.

There is a federal law called Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) you may want to look this up, same as FMLA (Family Medical Leave of Absense).

Or they aren't even in the home, they get several women pregnant and demand that the babies be named after them although they have zero intention of participating in either providing money, or any kind of parenting.

Avatar n tn And I agree with the discrimination thing. Just think about the folks wth HIV and what a stink was raised about them being fired, etc. because of their diagnosis. Not like you're going to be giving anyone some of your blood any time soon. And any job where you are exposed to body fluids, ie if you were an EMT, you would be wearing the usual protective equipment (gloves, masks, gowns, etc.) to protect you and the patient.

On the other hand you don't want to get hired and then spring this on them. I personally, though, would do what I could to get hired. Show them how well you do your job and then after a few weeks let them know you're pg. Hopefully by then they'll see you as a hardworking individual and wouldn't want to let you go when you have the baby.

Avatar n tn Just make sure you're really careful about insurance coverage if you do switch. I don't think pregnancy can be considered a preexisting condition but I'm not sure about that. Just be sure that you have COBRA in between changing and that your new insurance will cover you. Also, I don't what you should do about telling or not telling. I agree though, they won't likely hire you over someone equally qualified if you're preg and the other person isn't.
