901222 tn?1399142874 I was in the same boat and I don't know if this will work for you but it did for me. I got on lyrica 100mg. It's non narcotic and helps withdrawal. I think it's actually for fibromyalgia or nerve pain not really sure but I got shot in the face and jumped a year later and they hit me in the jaw with a sledge hammer and it works good for me.
Avatar m tn Pregabalin is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing the number of pain signals that are sent out by damaged nerves in the body. I found nothing that indicated this medication is ever prescribed for anxiety.
Avatar f tn Hi Yvonne, I see you are from the United Kingdom which may explain the reason your MD ordered Tegretol. Please don't take that as in negative - I mean only that different countries sometimes have different prescription practices and preferences. Carbamazepine was discovered by chemist Walter Schindler at J.R. Geigy AG (now part of Novartis) in Basel, Switzerland, in 1953. In 1971, Drs.
634733 tn?1316625992 I have heard that Lyrica actually worse that Gabapentin for the weight gain. I have gained a bit on the gabapentin too, but my mother was on Lyric and gained 30 lbs. in a VERY short time. you might want to reconsider it. I donèt know if it is a body type and condition that causes the weight gain, but I have heard it alot from people on Lyrica. Just check it out Pat, and see what your Dr.
382218 tn?1341181487 - nabilone - sativex These are just a few of the multiple medications your doctor may use for neuropathic pain. Unfortunately because of the rules in this forum I cannot comment on all the off-label medications which we use, but suffice it to say there are many more and they usually fall under the categories of anti-seizure medications and antidepressants. I do not use cannibinoids, nor do I personally recommend them.
Avatar f tn Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, and because of the potential for tumorigenicity shown for pregabalin in animal studies, decide whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Pediatric Use The safety and efficacy of pregabalin in pediatric patients have not been established.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Lyrica or Pregabalin is an anti epileptic drug used for neuropathic pain, an adjunct for partial seizures with secondary generalizations and anti anxiety drug. It has not been seen to be associated with baldness or hair loss.
Avatar m tn This is true of gabapentin and pregabalin which were originally invented for seizures. Pregabalin is similar to gabapentin but has less side effects and often people who can not tolerate gabapentin benefit from pregabalin. However it is more expensive. The same is true for medications such as amitryptiline, which was originally used for depression but is now a mainstay of treatment for neuropathic pain. However, it has several side effects and may not be used in patients with heart problems.
Avatar m tn Many of these herbs are problematic, but some will prove very useful). As for a belief in God reducing stress, blind belief in anything reduces stress, including in your doctor or in placebos. Placebos are the best medicine, because they have no side effects, but the effects don't often last long because it isn't real.
Avatar n tn For TN that is not due to a specific cause, treatments that have been helpful include as you mentioned elavil and lyrica, as well as other medications such as trileptal, carbamazepine, and neurontin. The latter 3 were originally developed as a treatment for seizures but have been found very useful in TN. Other less commonly used medications include phenytoin (dilantin), a seizure medication, and antidepressants such as cymbalta.
1664023 tn?1302961166 You could ask your doctor about taking an antioxidant called Alpha Lipoic Acid. Another one that you definitely better not even take without asking is called Acetyl L Carnitine. They are antioxidants. I am more confident in the Alpha Lipoic Acid for reducing the symptoms of neuropathy because I haven't read any serious warnings about this one and I use it myself for parasthesia. This is not the same as diabetic neuropathy, but it is a nerve issue.
Avatar f tn Another problem with tramadol is that it can cause seizures, which, while the potential for abuse is still there with hydrocodone or oxycodone, the chance of seizures is almost nil. With tramadol, the chance for seizures in higher doses is pretty good. Please be careful with tramadol (Ultram). It's not a great thing to get your body involved with.
Avatar f tn I took ritalin in late teens for adhd and developed epilepsy in early thirties. No history of seizures in family but my brother who also took ritalin in late teens also eveloped seizures as I did.

Avatar f tn I agree with what everyone is saying - I have been taking Lyrica off and on for several years (began as soon as it was approved for use in the US when ever that was). Pfizer also claims there is no withdrawl from stopping Lyrica, but I have stopped it twice and both times I had what I consider to be noticeable withdrawl. The prickly skin feeling, feeling flush, etc. it's really kind of hard to describe, but definately not pleasant.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I think that our bodies just get use to the medicine and it no longer works, so for me it is better to do them in cycles.
Avatar n tn we are here for you. I have to get off for a while so I will check in later. But I beg you, go back to the ER. This should not be taken lightly. Inpatient detox/ treatment is necessary here. There will be some other members that will be here thru the night,,OK. Just keep talking to us.
Avatar m tn Also my problem is mainly GAD and mild depression has come with it. Currenlty, I am taking pregabalin for GAD. Wonder drug for me. I am little concerned with it side effects such as infertility and birth defects. Apart from that I am very happy with this med.
Avatar f tn I'm going in for as EEG soon and am wondering if there are other tests besides this that can tell if you are having seizures. I read somewhere that someone went in for Neurofeedback - what's the difference between these two diagnostic methods? I'm asking because my hair may not be conducive to the EEG.
Avatar m tn Hi Thanks for responding. We think I might have a bit of scar tissue around the nerve, and rubbing the skin has irritated the nerve near the scar tissue. We think this has caused the nerve to swell, hence any movement of the forehead muscle irritates the nerve and causes tissue swelling. What is you pain like, is it sharp or dull? Do you get any swelling?
1218873 tn?1300091216 Hi twist and welcome home- So sorry the cruiseline you were on wasn't your type - I trust you made the best of it anyway. Yes, sacroidosis is definitely a mimic. I hope they get those results back for you soon. Botox is approved for upper body spasticity here, and is also being used in neurogenic bladders. I'm not familiar with its use for TN, but it wouldn't surprise me. Good luck with the GP - keep us posted with update, ok?
Avatar f tn It is perfectly legal for a physician, once a med has been approved by the FDA, to use it for off-label purposes. What isn't legal is for the manufacturer to talk the physician into using it for off-label purposes. So this med might be the best thing for you, and it might be completely inappropriate depending on where the professional got the info from. So you're right to question things, but as I said, that doesn't mean this isn't a good med for you.
Avatar m tn Hi, this drug belong to anti depressant category but is quite effective in nerve pain too i.e. neuritis. Other drugs like gabapentin, pregabalin, amitryptline, carbamazepine are also effective and are relatively safe as compared to nortryptline. For more information visit http://www.drugs.com/nortriptyline.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nortriptyline http://www.patient.co.
Avatar f tn During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your suggestions. I am getting some feeling back in my lower lip. I feel this is a good sign.
Avatar f tn We bred her two times and each time lost 3 puppies because of seizures. The mother has never had seizures. What would cause these puppies to have seizures so young. A few was only a few weeks old and the oldest one was 7 weeks old. Thank you.
