Avatar f tn I have some links that deal with a neurogenic bladder, however it does not deal with young patients like your son. The site is based on adults. I know what it is like to have to use intermittant catherization. I cannot imagine what it must be like for a young child. http://www.urologyhealth.org/adult/index.cfm?cat=03&topic=109 http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/453539-overview I hope that this information is helpful for you. All the best.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a 43 year old female that was diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder 12 years ago , after the birth of my second son. If your wife would like to talk with someone in her similar situation, I would be happy to lend some support!
999891 tn?1407276076 Yesterday I met with my Urologist, he said my bladder was healthy but the mechanics were not. He Diagnosed me as having a Neurogenic bladder. He is confident that my problems are due to one or a combination of my Central Nervous System problems. He feels that the CNS problem need to be treated in the hope of resolving my bladder issues before he would preform any radical treatments. He has put me on medication to help with my bladder problem but this is not a longterm solution.
Avatar f tn Thanks Kyle. I have RR MS and recently diagnosed with Detrusor Sphincter Dysserie. My bladder does not fully empty. I cath several times per day/night. My Urologist informed, like MS, this condition is not curable. The symptoms may or may not go away at some point. Are you aware of any treatments for this condition?
Avatar f tn Hello new to this forum, my son was born with a enlarged bladder and is now 3.5 mos. We've be trying to narrow down the cause with his urologist he is catheterized 3x daily. Recently he was diagnosed with an enlarged bowel. He urinates on his own daily and also has reg bowel movements. Vcug was good no obstruction but bladder held around 10oz. MRI was done with no findings of back. Ultra sound was done recently and kidneys are great.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Hi twist and welcome home- So sorry the cruiseline you were on wasn't your type - I trust you made the best of it anyway. Yes, sacroidosis is definitely a mimic. I hope they get those results back for you soon. Botox is approved for upper body spasticity here, and is also being used in neurogenic bladders. I'm not familiar with its use for TN, but it wouldn't surprise me. Good luck with the GP - keep us posted with update, ok?
Avatar n tn ll ask for a urologist there. How do they test for neurogenic bladder? And would MS be the most likely cause of neurogenic bladder in an 18 year old male?
Avatar f tn First, I want to tell you, I am so, so sorry for what you are experiencing!! I, too, have major bladder issues. Neurogenic Bladder. I had the Inter Stim Implant a little over a year ago. Until recently, It helped with the all of a sudden urge and loss of control. I was hospitalized in August and November for UTI/Bladder Infection and had to have IV's at home for two weeks after the last hospitalization. For four years, I've had to wear Depends 24/7.
708351 tn?1229457087 Depending on the pathology of the disease you suffer from which has led to neurogenic bladder, the chances of return of the normal bladder function are governed. So please do get back to me with details of the diagnosis and then probably I will be able to give you a clearer picture of the prognosis. If you have any further queries do get in touch with me.
739070 tn?1338603402 Hmmmm....What the urologist told you is NOT what I understand about what MS can do to the bladder. While it is true that "Neurogenic Bladder" often refers to the floppy bladder that can't contract to expell urine - it doen't have to be that. Your neurologist is using a very narrow definition and doesn't seem to understand the variety of ways that MS can affect the bladder and urination.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
1456948 tn?1285464372 The urodyn tests have been run at least twice. I have been told I have neurogenic bladder and overactive bladder. I am on several medications and I am going through physical therapy for the pelvic floor. It isn't too hopeful. Should I get more tests of some type? Are my kidneys possibly involved in any way? A suggestion has been made to do something to me and have me totally catheter, as is sometimes done with MS patients. I am MS possible. I am miserable most of the time.
Avatar f tn one example is amitriptyline, commonly prescribed to MS patients for pain. the effect is the same as that of the neurogenic bladder in that it is difficult to completely empty the bladder. this in turn can lead to UTIs. it's important to pinpoint the cause so that the appropriate remedy is sought. if the cause is medication side effects, a lower dose or as alternative med should be considered.
Avatar f tn After having had neumerous UTI and kidney infections and after surgry to the bladderneck and prostate I was diagnosed as having a neurogenic bladder in 1996. Like you I too have numbness in both legs and feet and use an AFO on the left foot. For me it started with numbness in my hands and arm as well as pain in the wrists and elbows. One neurologist told me that my neurogenic bladder could not be caused by the HNPP.
Avatar m tn benign prostatic hyperplasia; neurogenic bladder, tumors, and urinary stones . In particular, overflow incontinence is a common symptom of benign prostatic hyperplasia. If the prostate gland is enlarged, it may obstruct the passage of urine through the urethra. This will lead to the symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with neurogenic bladder (retention 150-200 cc and had urodynamics) and bowel dysfunction. I cannot feel the need to go, have chronic constipation and something about the "squeeze reflex" being absent (I had a manometry). I was sent to a neurosurgeon for evaluation and he said because of the lack of loss of pereaneal sensation, there is no way it can be a spinal cause.
Avatar f tn I have a neurogenic bladder due to a tethered spinal cord that was fixed with surgery, I have difficulty reaching orgasm. Could this be related?

Avatar n tn Hey everybody, I'm 18 years old, male, no family history of any urology problems, and seemingly in a healthy medical condition. I do get anxious about my health, so bear with me. Since a year and a half ago I've been experiencing a variety of urinary problems. Perhaps I made them worse by worrying and thinking too much about them, but I know I have a basis. They include feelings of incomplete voiding, bouts of frequency, occasional hesitation, etc. (these are the big 3).
Avatar n tn It was not untill I was 31 that I learned that I have a neurogenic bladder. The problem that I have is that I cannot completely empty my bladder at times. This was determined after a urodynamics test. As a result I self cath several times a day. I used to come down with infections every 3 to 4 months requiring hospitalization. Self cathing has cut the infection rate down. I'm not suggesting that this is what your son has, but it's better to get him checked.
1175033 tn?1492201228 It sound to me like you having the same kinda pain that is associated with a ovarian cyst. Tho you are also talking about Bladder problems. For about 2 yrs I had this bladder problem where i would have to urinate all the time , but when I did and afterward it would burn sooooo badly. I never had a UTI, just these painful urine attacks. I finally started doing my own research and went to Emory in atlanta , and had my urethra stretched. Wow it was day and night for me.
