Avatar f tn While pregabalin, known as "Lyrica" in the States, has unlabeled uses for GAD and SAD, (Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder) it is primarily prescribed here for fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain associated with peripheral neuropathy. Nowhere can I find that it is beneficial for sleep problems, although one of it's side effects IS "fatigue," I don't think that is the desired effect for a sleep aid.

Avatar n tn I currently take 45 mg time-release morphine tablets (1-15mg every 8 hours) and 30 mg of Percocets (1-325/5mg every 6 hours). I still suffer much pain. My doctor has suggested we try Gabapentin. Can I take that WITH my current meds or does he mean instead of? From reading these other posts, I don't think it would do as well for me by itself. Thank you for your advice.

901222 tn?1399142874 Lyrica (pregabalin) is a GABA analogue, similar to Neurontin (gabapentin). Even though pregabalin is approved for The results are still out on whether or not people suffer neurological dependance on this medication. People using high doses of pregabalin (> 1000 mg/day) report problems stopping this medication. My attitude about certain reported side-effects, like weight gain, is that I'll never know what they'll do to me until I try.
634733 tn?1316625992 I have heard that Lyrica actually worse that Gabapentin for the weight gain. I have gained a bit on the gabapentin too, but my mother was on Lyric and gained 30 lbs. in a VERY short time. you might want to reconsider it. Avatar m tn I was given the medicine Lyrica, which is for fibromyalgia, which I do not have, and that medicine takes the low back pain away, as well as in my feet! I have been taking it for nearly a year now, and I am not only more comfortable, my mind is able to focus better because I'm not distracted by so much pain. So, I think you should ask your doctor to give it to you, and see if it helps.

Avatar m tn Hello. I know about debilitating pain. I have degenerative disc disease. It wasn't that big of a deal for 40 years...I'd just go to the chiropractor when I couldn't take the pain (should NOT wait that long) and be good to go for months, if I didn't do something stupid. In your posting, there's no history of treatment other than drugs. Does anybody know what's causing your pain? Have you seen a Neurologist for a NCT-Nerve Conduction Test?

Treatment is only limited and directed to symptomatic relief.
Avatar m tn I have recently started taking pregabalin for GAD and I can honestly tell that it is a miracle drug for me. It has been a week now since I have started taking 50mg pragabalin after meal. All of my GAD symptoms have gone. I don't feel severe anxiety, constant restlessness (akathesia), social anxiety, muscle tension, depression, panic attack e.t.c. Before that I was taking Zoloft, Paxil, Wellbutrin for sexual side effects, Inderrall for heart palpitation and muscle relaxants everyday.
Avatar m tn Also my problem is mainly GAD and mild depression has come with it. Currenlty, I am taking pregabalin for GAD. Wonder drug for me. I am little concerned with it side effects such as infertility and birth defects. Apart from that I am very happy with this med.
