8186495 tn?1396915293 However, some medications used for symptom relief can cause weight gain, specifically Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica (Pregabalin). Steroids can have this effect as well. Many MSers put on weight because fatigue makes them lethargic, so they easily can become couch potatoes. That doesn't sound like you, though, as you get an admirable amount of exercise. I suggest you check with your primary doctor about potential causes of your weight issues.

Avatar n tn As far as I am aware anticonvulsants of the gabapentoid class (gabapentin and pregabalin, for example) are known to cause weight gain and hair loss in some people. It's listed in their side effect profile. I use clippers with a number 2 comb to disguise the hair loss...
Avatar f tn They both may cause patients to feel tired, dizzy and drowsy. In addition, patients may have impaired mental function and loss of balance. Please avoid driving and drinking alcohol while taking these medications. Here are more information on the 2 medications: 1. Pregabalin (Lyrica) - MedlinePlus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a605045.html 2. Sertraline (Zoloft)- MedinePlus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a697048.
901222 tn?1399142874 Then comes the isolation and weight gain and eventual weening off until the next bad flare up. It is a drag to have to live this way. I think if I could treat the depression it would be better but have never been able to find one that works well for me. I have tried them all and am waiting for the new NMDA receptor anti depressants to be available. I will research lyrica.
Avatar f tn In previous clinical studies, between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 people taking Lyrica experienced hair loss. The exact percentage of people who developed hair loss while taking Lyrica was not reported. Because hair loss is so common in the general public, it is difficult to say whether hair loss is caused by Lyrica, genetics, other factors, or a combination of these things. If you are taking Lyrica and hair loss becomes a problem, talk with your healthcare provider.
Avatar m tn no it is not arthritis.....my question is....what will happen if she combines the methadone and the pregabalin?...she takes methadone about every other day...a bottle of 130mg methadone will last her almost 5 to 6 days....any info would be helpful.
Avatar n tn Other options for the neuropathic pain include gabapentin and pregabalin, and medications such as a tricyclic antidepressant but a careful cardiac workup needs to be performed prior to starting one of these medications. Other options include physical therapy. It should be mentioned that there are some people that will require surgery for herniated discs.
Avatar n tn The same thing happens when you take prednisone over long periods. In ab ER people who have blood loss will often become angry, curse and give everyone a hard time until they get a blood transfusion, and then, at a certain point the personality magically changes.
3144747 tn?1343049136 Some of the adverse effects associated with topamax include paresthesias (numbness/tingling), somnolence, dizziness, and risk for kidney stones. Weight loss is also a side effect that is commonly seen. If a patient’s tremor is very severe and refractory to medical treatment, sometimes more invasive procedures such as botox injection or deep brain stimulation are considered. But this would only be considered if medical options are exhausted.
210982 tn?1280983895 Some users do report euphoria at much higher levels than others, so there is a risk of psychological addiction with these people. Also, as was mentioned, there are attenuate side effects, with memory loss and weight gain being prominent. Read the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyrica and speak to your pharmacist for more info.

1218873 tn?1300091216 Hi Twist I really sense the loss of your mobility as a dancer and a teacher and just how very tough this must be for you, particularly if you are having a bad day. It feels like you are just hitting a brick wall at the moment and no further help has been offered or suggested and you are just having to get on with it as best you can.
Avatar m tn Pregabalin is known as Lyrica in the States and is prescribed primarily to relieve neuropathic pain if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have had shingles. It is also used to treat fibromyalgia. Pregabalin is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing the number of pain signals that are sent out by damaged nerves in the body.
2107676 tn?1388973859 I am back on Effexor (which was hell to taper off of), and pregabalin and fighting hard not to take too much pregabalin to ease the withdrawals. Luckily I have been sleeping quite a bit but I'm awake now and feeling like hell. It just seems like I have been through a year of fighting not to go through this hell and here I end up again.
Avatar f tn There are healthy ways to lose weight and that could be discussed in the specific forum but obtaining a nutrionist is best and Weight Watchers good as well but avoid weight loss products. Most are unhealthy or useless. And products with Nutrasweet should be avoided as well as that can worsen depression (as some studies show). Replace all sugared drinks with flavored seltzer water for starters. That worked for me.
