Avatar f tn I recently had one of my dogs treated for a disc problem in her neck. She was given a decreasing dose of Prednisone to take over 10 days which helped her considerably. Now, my other dog (same size and age) is showing symptoms of the same condition. I want to try the Pred on him but I don't have any left. Instead, I have a large bottle of Prednisolone. If I gave Ruby 40 mg's of PredNISONE, would I now give 40mg of PredNISOLONE? Or would the dose be different?
Avatar f tn You are having a hard time I hope you will feel better soon, When you get to see the Doc ask him if any of them are reacting with the other Meds and the Prednisone, best to cut them back slowly as you can have nasty withdrawal symptoms, you do need to ask the Doc who prescribed them and tell him all your concerns,as you have done here in your Post, before you do anything, speak to him on Monday.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
Avatar m tn My dog jumped up on the counter and got my other dogs Med bottle and ate all the pills and chewed the bottle before I saw you. Will this hurt her?mit was a very low dosage of prednisone about 7 days worth.
Avatar n tn Hi there...a lot of veterinarians have issues with long term usage of steroids in dogs or cats. There is the possibility that continued use of prednisone can cause overactive adrenal glands resulting in too much cortisol in the body (this is one of the body's natural steroids). Since steroids suppress the immune system, llike zodiacqueen has mentioned, chronic recurrent infections can occur.
Avatar n tn In October 2008, I was put on 60mg of Prednisone after liver biopsy revealed a rapid progression from an earlier biopsy, I now had non-alcoholic cirrhosis. In March 2009 at the Mayo Clinic I was diagnosed with AIH (autoimmune hepatitis) with non-alcoholic cirrhosis. I was placed on 50mg of Imuran, which was adjusted to 100mg and my Prednisone was gradually reduced 10mg. In September 2010 my Prednisone was being reduced by 2.5 every 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar m tn His blood sugar was very low(40). The vet said to treat the symptoms and put him on Prednisone, 5 mg, twice a day. While it seemed to improve his blood sugar(I tested his blood), he had periods of excitement and heavy panting for hours. I was concerned about heart attack and I cut his dosage to 5mg three times a day, then 2. After a month of so, he started to develop a severe cough. Dry, but with almost every breath. This continues today, after 4 months.
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
Avatar m tn I have read several posts about phenobarbital in relation to seizures in dogs. My old fella, Oliver is a mixed breed collie who is 16 1/2 years old who to this date has been healthy. On Sunday night he had a full blown seizure (which I have never seen before) that lasted at least 2 minutes. We took him into the emergency vets and they confirmed he was still seizing when we got there. He stayed overnight, did not have another seizure and is now on pheno (60mg) and prednisone (short term).
Avatar n tn About a week into taking the prednisone, I developed a very hot and burning face and neck. I have been off the prednisone for 2 days but am still experiencing the symptoms. My face turns a little red-- I look a little flushed. My skin feels hot to the touch on my face and has a burning hot sensation. Is this from the steroids? If so, when will it pass? How long does prednisone stay in your system? I also have a racing heart and feel a little anxious.
Avatar m tn re waiting until Monday, and that is a long time in this situation. You also need to know what to do about the prednisone, since sudden withdrawal can cause symptoms. I don't know if the two or three days that he was on it was enough to cause that kind of problem. So maybe you really do need to call the vet. Here, we have emergency veterinary clinics that you can go to over the weekend, if necessary.
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
Avatar f tn I agree with Dr. Cheng that foot licking is often a symptom of allergies in dogs. The allergy can be to food, or to environmental allergens such as pollen, grass or dust. Additionally, secondary bacterial or yeast infections often develop between the toes, causing the itching and licking to worsen, so evaluation by a veterinarian for miscroscopic analysis of the inflamed feet is needed to evaluate if antibiotics are needed.
Avatar n tn Took her back for one week checkup and vet explained large breed dogs some times react negatively to Prednisone by getting lethargic and haivng muscle atrophy. Cut her Prednisone in half and wanted to start her on Chlorambucil 2mg. I looked up that drug when I got home and learned it's used to treat cancer - and needs to be handled with gloves. I'm hesitant to give my dog that chemo-like drug.
1580703 tn?1651904887 there is an online researcher video that says prednisone destroys neurons in the hippocampus and shouldn't be given to stroke victims I'm already having brain damage, fog from sleep apnea and 73% O2 at night so I don't know if klonopin and prednisone helps or actually causes brain damage
Avatar m tn shakiness, vision issues, muscle spasming, weakness/tingling/numbness in left arm from shoulder down). I was put on a 12 day prednisone regimen and have been off of the drug for 6 days. While on the pred, I experienced insomnia, and slightly increased blood pressure, but my heart rate was around 60 and didn't change. since the 2nd day after weaning off of prednisone, my symptoms have returned (ms), but my heart rate has gone from 60 bpm to 80 bpm, and my BP has gone from 116/60 to 130/80.

Avatar n tn in looking at the package insert for Comfortis, there is no mention of weakness as a side effect of the drug in either the clinical studies on normal dogs, or the toxicity studies on laboratory dogs (the most common side effect was stomach upset in about 5-10%).
82818 tn?1206989814 any subjection on itchy skin for small dogs. I've tried prednisone pills. All kind if shampoo's and after a couples og days she's back to rolling on the carpet and scratching. It just drives her carzy. She is a 5lds yorkie.
Avatar m tn Do you have any other autoimmune conditions? The symptoms you mention are not listed among those for prednisone withdrawal but are concerning. I think you should contact your doctor and discuss this development.
2048234 tn?1330814100 If you are on it for an extended period of time it can cause some withdrawal symptoms just like any other steroid. My wife was on it for over a month and she had no side effects when she stopped taking it. Take it for a week to treat the pneumonia. You'll be fine.
