Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar n tn Did the anxiety start while you were on the prednisone or after you stopped? Corticosteroids cause anxiety as one of the most common side effects, as they are basically a form of cortisol, the stress hormone. It's possible the problem is the cortisone itself, and not withdrawal from it, that is the problem, though I'm not sure about withdrawal from this drug.
Avatar n tn Other common side effects include difficulty sleeping, vertigo, increased appetite, indigestion, and mood changes. The prednisone should be out of your system a couple of days after your last dose. You should consult your physician as soon as possible if you are still experiencing these symptoms.

608104 tn?1352587153 m coping with the side effects of the prednisone including agitation, mood swings, greater distractibility, disorganization, incredible appetite increases, and gastritis. Yesterday and today I decreased the prednisone to 5 mg but can feel slight fireworks lighting up my brain, as I carefully wean this old body away from the predisone. I see the clinical psychologist next week for disorganization and decluttering monitoring.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
Avatar f tn The anticonvulsive proprieties will avoid the risk any seizure that could happen during a benzos withdrawal and their mood stabilizing effect are linking to the GABA receptors which are the same receptors that benzos are targeting. They are not going to stabilize a sad mood, they will prevent anxiety and panic attack which are destabilization of a normal mood therefore stabilize a normal state of mind.
341655 tn?1240368839 I have been on prednisone for 1 month now, 5 days of IV solumedrol and now i'm on a maintenance of 80mg of pred. I'm having severe side effects and don't know how to deal with them. *leg swelling *night sweats *severe mood swings *uncontrolled hunger *severe body pain any advice on how to cut down on some of the symptoms?
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
Avatar f tn What is prednisone? What is it use for? What are all of the side afects you can have when you are on this medecation?
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
Avatar f tn t experience withdrawal, prescribed me a Medrol dose-pack and the muscle relaxant cyclobezeprine (Flexeril). Other medical/psychiatric conditions I have are hypothyroidism and bi-polar disorder/depression for which I take levothyroxine (Synthroid), divalproex (Depakote) and bupropion (Welbutrin).
Avatar f tn Anyone taken prednisone while pregnant? I am 16w and have low platelets. I am worried about the side effects. Mainly excessive weight gain and mood swings.
2048234 tn?1330814100 I was put on prednisone for my lungs. its a 7 day treatment but I am reading its very addictive. what do I do? I dont want to get addicted to anything else.
Avatar f tn I'm taking Prednisone for buzzing in the head/ear and it stops it. I was prescribed 1 20 mg tblet per day for 5 days. The awful buzzing stopped for 3 weeks after I used it for 5 days. Then it started again. So I went to ER and they said I had so much wax in my right ear that it was impacted and covering my ear drum so they cleaned it out. I had no buzzing for two days; also they prescribed the Prednisone again for 5 days. I took ONE AND REALIZED IT WORK IMMEDIATELY. The awful noise stopped.
Avatar f tn Ok so I went off of iv steroids and now have 2 weeks of prednisone to take and this is my 2nd day. I feel a crawling sensation on left side of face. I feel like the tip of my tongue in tingly, I am seeing stars every now and then and some stomach pain. Just need reassurance this is normal? I thought I was supposed to have energy but it 5pm and I'm tired. I dont like this feeling.
Avatar f tn I have available about 10 1 mg xanax so I am going to do the best I can with what I have. I have read horror stories about withdrawal and I have a highly stressful job, also due to the benzo addiction I have brain fog and make silly mistakes, I feel shame at work. So does anyone have any ideas on how to make this manageable? I want my life back and I want to be able to function.
1716896 tn?1308880762 I was taking 20mg prednisone twice daily for 3 weeks, and my last dose was monday night. Today is Thursday, and I am developing an itchy rash over my whole body, do you think it is related? Also, my heart rate is also 104 at rest and I have a dull headache.
1580703 tn?1651904887 at what dosage dose and length of time does prednisone cause brain damage and memory problems, thinking problems? thanks!
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisone is a bad medicine and can cause lots of bad side effects. You are on a relatively low dose. 1 month at 10 mg should not cause any major problems. You shouldn't have any issues with withdrawal when you go off that dose suddenly. I know people who are 5 mg every day for life. I do question the effectiveness of this dosage though. I think you would benefit fro an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) more than oral pred for long term use. Take care and feel better.
Avatar f tn Usually Prednisone raises glucose levels, not lower. One thing to note is if you have been on Prednisone for more than one month, it is important that you do not stop it "cold turkey." This can cause an acute withdrawal reaction that can lead to a crisis situation - you can mess up your adrenal gland where adrenal exhaustion can lead to hypoglycemia. You'll need to travel outside of your area for an evaluation by an Endo. Mine is 50+ miles away one-way.
