Avatar m tn Can I stop taking the prednisone after one dose of 2 20mg pills or will I suffer sever withdrawal and potentially hazardous reactions? Is it safe to just stop taking prednisone after a single 40mg dose?
Avatar m tn Hi, a short course of prednisone is unlikely to cause withdrawal effects. Corticosteroid use causes a rise in blood pressure and increases fluid retention. But this is usually for long term usage. So, the changes noticed may not be related to this therapy. Regards.
312330 tn?1245176752 m on high daily doses of prednisone. I also suffer from terrible insomnia...granted I had insomnia before I was ever diagnosed with the CSS. I know that prednisone can cause sleep issues, and I really need to get some sleep. I also have ADHD. I've tried trazadone with mixed results. I currently take Prednisone, Qvar, Foradil, Zantac and Adderall. I would prefer not to add another pill to the mix if I can help it, the less med interactions I chance the better....any suggestions?
446896 tn?1237802742 Hello, I had an allergic reaction to an unknown substance two weeks ago, and was given a taper regime of Prednisone, after my visit to the ER. The first 5 days I took 60mg, the next 5 I took 40mg, and the last 5 days 20 mg. Tomorrow is my last day/pill. This is my first time taking Prednisone and I have had a TERRIBLE experience on this drug!
1842804 tn?1319756311 Hi, I've been on Solumedrol few times so far (3 days IV, 1gram) and thought I knew what to expect. But this one is different (had my last two days ago). FIrst of all - I had no energy booster (I took it for fatigue and vertigo this time). And now the withdrawal worse than ever! I've slept almost all day yesterday and all night (rare with medrol!) and am still feeling awfully: headache is killing me, I'm very dizzy and lightheaded, and I'm soooo tired!
Avatar m tn shakiness, vision issues, muscle spasming, weakness/tingling/numbness in left arm from shoulder down). I was put on a 12 day prednisone regimen and have been off of the drug for 6 days. While on the pred, I experienced insomnia, and slightly increased blood pressure, but my heart rate was around 60 and didn't change. since the 2nd day after weaning off of prednisone, my symptoms have returned (ms), but my heart rate has gone from 60 bpm to 80 bpm, and my BP has gone from 116/60 to 130/80.

Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
3127670 tn?1342373916 now in my withdrawal from opiates...day three now...I cant f***** sit still....cant sleep...becoming unbareable..I just took 1 mg of ativan and now feel guilty...I want to be free of ALL drugs and dont need another habit to kick (smoking is next)...anyone have experience with this???
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
1523893 tn?1301579774 Last week my neuro put me on a 3 day dose of Prednisone to hopefully offset the flare I was in the middle of. He put me on 3 days of oral pred, quite a huge dose (25 pills per day, each being 50 mg). I took my three days worth of pills hoping I would see a difference, but have yet to feel any better. In fact I am worse and I am wondering if I should see a physician about my symtoms. Weight gain, no energy, facial swelling, horrible fog, painful skin on my neck and shoulders.
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
Avatar n tn First of all, my periods which had stopped shortly after starting Risperdal returned and my breasts which were producing milk dried up but now I suffer from insomnia. I sometimes get only 1 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Will this go away on its own?
Avatar f tn How long does the really bad insomnia last? Day 4 of no oxy and all of my other physical symptoms are done! But last night I was literally up allll night! Finally went to the store and got melatonin when it opened at 7 ans slept a couple hours, would probably still be asleep had my husband not woke me!
Avatar m tn Insomnia and restless legs are the toughest things about wd.Nyquil helped me a few nights ,but it in itself can be habit forming so use it wisely.Sleep is the most important thing during withdrawal and during our normal lives.Anything legal that helps you sleep is ok by me.Nyquil is still better than getting hooked on benzos and if used wisely can be a big help to recovery.Sweats are normal during recovery and keep up the good work.

Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
Avatar n tn I didn't sleep at all for two nights straight and sporadically for a few days after that. Even now, over 70 days in, I sometimes can't sleep but I don't know if it is related to withdrawal. I also don't take anything when I can't sleep. Anyway, I don't know that it is anything set in stone. It is probably different for different folks.
Avatar n tn anybody have ideas to help insomnia, i am taking melatonin and it was working during tx , but I am in the middle of my third week of tx . i have a chemically induced daze, little fatigue , muscle aches amd slight insomnia and melatonin doesnt seem to kick in , so i tale a little Ativan and it helps a little.
Avatar m tn well i am only beginning my clean time so i know my sleep is gonna be hard for a while. but how do i know if it is just from withdrawal or if i really have insomnia. as long as i remember i have had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep (before my addiction). and between times when i wasnt even drinking (dont know if alcohol contributes). how long do i wait till i tell a doctor that i might have insomnia.
Avatar n tn If you are taking steroids (ie prednisone) for some of those conditions, it can cause or contribute to the high cholesterol, insomnia, and high blood pressure. It can also contribute to the fatigue. Your disease and the prednisone as well as other medications can lower your immune system.
Avatar n tn I believe that taking shots of methylprednisone and a decreasing solumedrol pack of prednisone launched me into a permanent state of insomnia. As a result I suffered with aches in my joints, muscle burning, brain fog and eventually chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Its a *****. I take five drugs to sleep through the night. i am doing a lot of research to reverse the effects.
Avatar m tn No no no you have not done perma damage! Tramadol has a anti deppressant in it so the w/d's do take a little longer than the regular opioids. You're actually not suppose to just quit them cold turkey because you can have seizures. You're 22 days off them so you should be clear of that now though. I really would recommend not drinking though. It is so easy to become dependant on something else well trying to quit a substance.
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
