Avatar m tn shakiness, vision issues, muscle spasming, weakness/tingling/numbness in left arm from shoulder down). I was put on a 12 day prednisone regimen and have been off of the drug for 6 days. While on the pred, I experienced insomnia, and slightly increased blood pressure, but my heart rate was around 60 and didn't change. since the 2nd day after weaning off of prednisone, my symptoms have returned (ms), but my heart rate has gone from 60 bpm to 80 bpm, and my BP has gone from 116/60 to 130/80.

Avatar n tn Apparently even with the withdrawal of the drug the proteins remained being placed on the red blood cells, so I continued to have hemolysis even after withdrawal. I was on prednisone for almost a year, and Prednisone worked but as soon as I was tappered off this med, the hemolysis came back. My hemoglobin went down to 4 and during prednisone treatment it was around 12-13.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
Avatar f tn yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with Solumedrol but if I undergo another infusion I will know to insist on a Prednisone wean to allieviate the withdrawal symptoms which I am sure is what the problem was the last time. Something you might want to consider is building up your potassium level prior to the infusion...low level potassium can wreak havoc with Solumedrol as well. Banana's have the most potassium but there are other foods that contain it such as potatoes.
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I went to the Columbia University Hospital ER and they told me there was no cure for aphasia. I took some ampicillin and tinidazole hoping it would help the asthma/sleep apnea that had crippled me and I ended up brain damaged it seems. I have hearing loss, I mix up m words and slur my speech. I completely black out and miss sentences, words, or they sound mumbled. I've been on months of high dose prednisone for the hearing loss, I hope it didn't do any damage.
2048234 tn?1330814100 I was put on prednisone for my lungs. its a 7 day treatment but I am reading its very addictive. what do I do? I dont want to get addicted to anything else.
Avatar m tn using prednisone for shortness of breath, It dont seem to be working Lung seems to be able to take in more are but shortness of breath not changed. Getting pain in my back lower ribs, Been on Pred 8 for 4 days, 6 for 3 days - 4 for 3 days and finishing up with 2 for 3 days 5mg, I am aslo on ventolin, Sprivia, and symbicort... any suggestions or advice ? I also just finished 6 Moxifloxacin HCL 400 mg, Nothing seems to be doing the job.
Avatar n tn I can relate to what you are going through. I was the same way due to chronic back pain. There were days I could hardly even move and couldn't even play with my kids even if it was sitting on the floor just playing with toys. I was miserable both physically and emotionally. That is what ended up causing my addiction. I wasn't masking feelings or other things going on in my life, I was masking my pain. The pain was making me an emotional wreck.
Avatar n tn Cortisone shots are typically given for specific areas of inflammation in the body. It contains a steroid, such a prednisone. Prednisone is often given orally to patients who need to take it for any duration. For instance I use prednisone for a few weeks when my asthma is very bad. In order to get faster relief, the prednisone can be injected into the body.
1580703 tn?1651904887 at what dosage dose and length of time does prednisone cause brain damage and memory problems, thinking problems? thanks!
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisone is a bad medicine and can cause lots of bad side effects. You are on a relatively low dose. 1 month at 10 mg should not cause any major problems. You shouldn't have any issues with withdrawal when you go off that dose suddenly. I know people who are 5 mg every day for life. I do question the effectiveness of this dosage though. I think you would benefit fro an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) more than oral pred for long term use. Take care and feel better.
Avatar f tn Usually Prednisone raises glucose levels, not lower. One thing to note is if you have been on Prednisone for more than one month, it is important that you do not stop it "cold turkey." This can cause an acute withdrawal reaction that can lead to a crisis situation - you can mess up your adrenal gland where adrenal exhaustion can lead to hypoglycemia. You'll need to travel outside of your area for an evaluation by an Endo. Mine is 50+ miles away one-way.
Avatar n tn Did the anxiety start while you were on the prednisone or after you stopped? Corticosteroids cause anxiety as one of the most common side effects, as they are basically a form of cortisol, the stress hormone. It's possible the problem is the cortisone itself, and not withdrawal from it, that is the problem, though I'm not sure about withdrawal from this drug.
Avatar f tn I have available about 10 1 mg xanax so I am going to do the best I can with what I have. I have read horror stories about withdrawal and I have a highly stressful job, also due to the benzo addiction I have brain fog and make silly mistakes, I feel shame at work. So does anyone have any ideas on how to make this manageable? I want my life back and I want to be able to function.
Avatar m tn Why can't we find a cure for SARCOIDOSIS? Why is there not more awareness for this terrible disease? It has affected my husbands liver. He now has cirrhosis and needs a liver transplant. He can't tolerate prednisone very well. What other drugs could be used? Are there any Sarcoidosis doctors in the Cleveland Ohio area?
