Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar n tn Did the anxiety start while you were on the prednisone or after you stopped? Corticosteroids cause anxiety as one of the most common side effects, as they are basically a form of cortisol, the stress hormone. It's possible the problem is the cortisone itself, and not withdrawal from it, that is the problem, though I'm not sure about withdrawal from this drug.
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
Avatar m tn I had a bad bout with a virus this past January which ended me up in the hospital for a few days, one thing then led to another and I was on all types of different antibiotics and then finally prednisone for a sinus infection. I had no problems at all with anxiety until after I finished up the prednisone. I got the shakes then and a doctor told me it may be anxiety from being sick on and off for months, so they told me to take a Xanax every day for a few weeks.
446896 tn?1237802742 Hey all, After having a severe allergic reaction this weekend to an unknown substance, I am currently in the midst of a taper of the drug Prednisone. The docs had to give it to me thru an IV at the ER, and then they told me I had to taper off it for hte next 15 days (I didnt have much choice in matter considering the shape I was in).
13746467 tn?1441840515 I read with great interest some of the posts about prednisone and anxiety. I suffer from severe anxiety and recently went to the dr for bronchitis. He prescribed me prednisone after I told him it makes me panic. He said it will subside but I honestly can't add more anxiety than I already have. Is there something else that can be prescribed to help with the bronchitis other then prednisone? My dr says No and I need to deal with it....ugh Please help....
1265027 tn?1284839951 3months later and my nerves are still a little frazzled. It really messed with my anxiety. The more I read about prednisone, the more bad stories I hear about these side effects. It is not the med for everybody. USE WITH CAUTION!
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
446896 tn?1237802742 This is my first time taking Prednisone and I have had a TERRIBLE experience on this drug! I usually have anxiety, but the last 14 days I have had unbelievable restlessness, panic, insomnia, severe heart palpitations/tachycardia, face swelling, etc. I have spoken to my nurse and two pharmacists who say that these are indeed side effects of prednisone, and that they should get better once I stop the medication.
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
1842804 tn?1319756311 Hi, I've been on Solumedrol few times so far (3 days IV, 1gram) and thought I knew what to expect. But this one is different (had my last two days ago). FIrst of all - I had no energy booster (I took it for fatigue and vertigo this time). And now the withdrawal worse than ever! I've slept almost all day yesterday and all night (rare with medrol!) and am still feeling awfully: headache is killing me, I'm very dizzy and lightheaded, and I'm soooo tired!
2048234 tn?1330814100 I was put on prednisone for my lungs. its a 7 day treatment but I am reading its very addictive. what do I do? I dont want to get addicted to anything else.
Avatar m tn I just took 10mg of prednisone for my asthma Now i have bad pain in my legs and weakness above the knee and my feet are burning anyone else have this happen?
Avatar m tn I was prescribed prednisone 20mg qd x 7 days for right shoulder and neck pain, provider thought that I my muscles was swollen on the inside. I tood prednisone 20mg for 2 days and began having anxiety symptoms, I was feeling jittery, felt like like I was dying, having right side pain by breast and top of rib cage, right leg pain, I just felt terrible, my bp began to become elevated, heart racing, crazy thoughts going through my head.
Avatar f tn I feel 95% sure that this is probably a manifestation of my anxiety first from the prednisone withdrawal/allergic reaction (which had also occurred during a stressful time with my finals for my Master's degree, followed by graduation) and resurfaced with the stress from my mother's cancer diagnosis. Prior to this, I never had any medical issues at all. I'm 26 years old and in good physical condition.
1716896 tn?1308880762 I was taking 20mg prednisone twice daily for 3 weeks, and my last dose was monday night. Today is Thursday, and I am developing an itchy rash over my whole body, do you think it is related? Also, my heart rate is also 104 at rest and I have a dull headache.
Avatar f tn I think your anxiety and you being on Prednisone was just a coincidence. I feel you should contact your doctor regarding how you are feeling and go from there. Anxiety is not a side effect of the medication and for it to be worse after stopping it....leads me to believe that it's not the medication. He may want to run some blood work to determine if there is something else causing you to feel anxious. Anxiety can hit us right out of the blue regardless of how healthy we are.
1580703 tn?1651904887 at what dosage dose and length of time does prednisone cause brain damage and memory problems, thinking problems? thanks!
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisone is a bad medicine and can cause lots of bad side effects. You are on a relatively low dose. 1 month at 10 mg should not cause any major problems. You shouldn't have any issues with withdrawal when you go off that dose suddenly. I know people who are 5 mg every day for life. I do question the effectiveness of this dosage though. I think you would benefit fro an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) more than oral pred for long term use. Take care and feel better.
