Avatar n tn Get a second opinion by all means. I was put on 4 days course of prednisone on few occasions for other conditions. I think it is anti inflammatory drugs so it seems a right treatment. Prednisone has some terrible side effects but it is also effective. Just giving my two cents.
1627204 tn?1302012537 The allergist at the astham clinic told me that when the body has an infection, it will cause flare ups of asthma. Have you been diagnosed with asthma, bronchiatis or other respiratory ailments? I hope that you're feeling better soon.
793908 tn?1294705109 On the other hand, since your dog tends to have pancreatitis attacks, logically I suppose a case could be made that the prednisone set it off in June. Looks like there must be other drugs that could be used to help your dog's supposed Cushings, rather than the prednisone. The last thing your pup needs is more misery on top of misery. But I think the most important information you have now are the shadows on ultrasound and the growth in her throat.
Avatar m tn I just got off the phone with the Doc, she said the prednisone would be OK and go on with it. It waas a month and a half after tx that my ears plugged First they said I had a lot of fluid in them and it felt that way. It sounds like a head full of locusts. 2wks of antibiotics, 2 different ones and my hearing had not improved.
Avatar f tn i spoke with a hepatologist this week and she said they would aggressively treat the rash, first with steroid cream and failing that - prednisone. now that the docs know the rash is a serious problem, i would hope that patients would not suffer unnecessarily.
Avatar f tn t help with my joint and back inflammation. I had heard about people having success with Prednisone but I had never really considered it for myself because I'm still young and had heard of all the horrible side effects. My pain had been causing me to become deeply depressed. Doctors were treating me like a drug addict whenever I went to ask for a prescription. I was getting to the point of being completely crippled and being a carer to my disabled son, crippled was not an option.
1754908 tn?1312400362 I seem to have side effects with all the treatments my RA doctor has provided. I am allergic to methotrexate. I have problems with prednisone as well. I stopped taking all RA drugs two years ago but try to get by with over the counter meds. I recently discovered Norco 10/325 and it really helps although it is a narcotic. My question is this. How much damage could I do taking only one pill (Norco) per day. Just one pill really helps me. Thanks.
Avatar f tn There ARE drugs that help with PPMS. Not to slow disease progression, unfortunately, but to help with symptoms. There are also treatments not involving drugs at all. By that I mean physical therapy, mainly. That can really help in conditioning unused muscles. You also might be fitted with a device that controls foot drop. A number of people here use them with very good results. Again, I'm so sorry that MS is so bad for you.
930657 tn?1244400059 Not sure what your history with RA is. Normally treatment is started with Plaquenil and then move onto Prednisone or DMARD's or immune suppressants. You could try other things but I imagine they would only help with the pain and not necessarily the joint degeneration. With the drugs they can halt or slow down joint and organ damage.
Avatar f tn t experience withdrawal, prescribed me a Medrol dose-pack and the muscle relaxant cyclobezeprine (Flexeril). Other medical/psychiatric conditions I have are hypothyroidism and bi-polar disorder/depression for which I take levothyroxine (Synthroid), divalproex (Depakote) and bupropion (Welbutrin).
Avatar f tn You know what Prednisone is? I was in the ICU with serious lung problems and I was on Prednisone. Surely you at least have Bronchitis or Pneumonia.
Avatar m tn I'm trying to get cataract surgery done. Several years ago I had allergy tests done. One of the allergens that showed positive was Caine mixtures. That would be all the "caine drugs including Lidocaine which seems to be the favorite agent for Ophthamologists. I never had a skin test for that drug in particular but in the past couple years, eating chocolate has caused itching on my hands.
Avatar n tn If the Prednisone is not working, I have found sources stating that other medications like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, plus maybe something like Plaquenil or Methotrexate could replace the Prednisone for you. I have heard the Plaquenil is less likely to cause bad side effects of the two. Also, If I were you I would post your questions in the Arthritis forum because I think the folks in that forum could help you very much too.
Avatar f tn He informed me that he wanted me to start tapering off the prednisone and as soon as I finished that to start taking Purinethol. I went for 10 years on Purinethol with no side affects and did very well (some flare ups). In 2006 I tried and experimental drug (my choice) which required me to stop the Purinethol. The drug worked great with a monthly dose but was removed from the market due to problems in the UK. In January 2007 I had to have my colon removed and have been doing great since.
Avatar f tn The causes of twitches, shakes and tremors may be parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, tardive dyskinesia, hyperthyroidism. Certain drugs could be responsible like metoclopramide, prednisone, effexor, an antidepressant, paxil, an SSRI, wellbutrin, an antidepressant, Zoloft an SSRI and dextroamphetamine, a CNS stimulant. Consult a neurologist soon who will evaluate you for these symptoms and investigate these appropriately. Take care.
Avatar f tn Be very careful with prednisone, it is an extremely powerful drug that can can tons of horrible side effects and long term permanent issues. I am still fighting with adrenal problems 3 years after I needed two 5 day tapers in a month, my body and it's stress response probably will never go back to the way it was. You need to get an appointment with a specialist and figure out the root cause of the problem and not just bandaid it with the meds.
Avatar n tn She was given steroid and antibiotic injections. Also given Baytril and Prednisone to take home and give daily. She gets Prednisone 20mg 3 times a day. She began heavy breathing on day 2 of the med and also seems to have belly bloating. Is this normal? I called my Vets office and all they said was to bring her in to get seen. But, we have already spent $1300 in one week alone on vet bills. Help!
1072653 tn?1255791843 Hi, I currently take 50 mg of azathiprine & 2.5 prednisone. In the beginning (2002) I was on hugh amounts of both, but gradually dropped down. I am doing fine, no issues, I see my doctor next month, but wish I could come to a point in time where the prednisone could be dropped totally but doubt that can ever be.
Avatar f tn The argument over use of oral prednisone is long-standing. The answer is yes, use of oral prednisone definitely predisposes a person to new infections, both viral and bacterial. That being said, once a given strain of flu is defeated natural antibodies prevent re-infection with that exact strain. It's like getting a vaccination. With oral prednisone the problem is risk vs. benefit. Prednisone affects different people in different ways.
Avatar f tn He said if the hepatitis is still active on the liver after the year of treatment he may switch me to another drug. Prednisone with something else. He said the other drug is more expensive, has only been on the market for about 5 years, but it has shown real good possibilities. So until he sees if the disease is still active on the liver he doesn't want to switch me. So I am somewhat disappointed, but I guess I can only be glad he is looking out for me.
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
Avatar f tn Of course the timing of when this happens is different for each patient and is their recovery process. We take prednisone along with our other immunosuppressant drugs for many months and than taper the prednisone and other post transplant drugs until we are taking only our immunosuppressants and maybe a few drugs or vitamins which we take for the rest of our lives. Now that I have finished my hep C treatment I will start to taper it off 1 mg at a time.
Avatar f tn I refuse to take the prednisone but my doctor says it is the first choice since IVIG are so expensive. I would rather go with the IVIG by IV's than do another dose of prednisone. I wish I knew if EBV caused my low platelet count and what would be my options to raise them to normal count which is 150,000.
Avatar f tn Yes, the prednisone doesn't help with seizures directly, but it does decrease inflammation throughout the body and the central nervous system if there is something like a tumor putting pressure in the brain. The phenobarbital is a very widely used anti-seizure medication. It is highly metabolized by the liver and over time, cause liver enzymes to rise. Keppra (levetiracetam) is mostly excreted by the kidneys are is one of the safest drugs speaking in terms of therapeutic vs.
