608104 tn?1352587153 I am a 70 year old woman with ADHD. My brain is aging along with the rest of me. With the help of the prednisone and a Z pak for a secondary infection and convalescence, the respiratory problems are gone, but I'm coping with the side effects of the prednisone including agitation, mood swings, greater distractibility, disorganization, incredible appetite increases, and gastritis.
Avatar f tn You mention a yeast infection in another post, and yeast infections are common with antibiotics. Prednisone is used for internal swelling, allergic reactions, arthritis, those types of things. It heads off inflammation.
Avatar n tn I've been battling molluscum and have nasty eczema and a bit of a secondary infection from picking the bumps. Dr. prescribed me prednisone and ciproflox. I'm sooo itchy all over but i don't want to take prednisone if it's going to make the molluscum worse. Is the prednisone a bad idea?
Avatar f tn Prednisone is NOT an antibiotic, you can't just go giving any medication without even knowing what you are treating....prednisone use in cats often leads to diabetes. Please describe what's wrong and I will try and help with some suggestions, I know yr only trying to help them but inappropriate use of meds can be fatal...
Avatar f tn My daughter has been coughing for a month now, it's not all the time. During this month she has had pink eye and a ear infection. The pink eye went away with meds, the ear infection is now on week 3. She took amoxicillon (the pink one) for 10 days, and now she's starting amoxicillon (the white one) for 10 more days. As for the cough, she has been prescribed 3 different meds for her cough pseudophedrine, prednisone (orapred), albuterol, and now prednisone again.
20793681 tn?1556071128 Then I followed up with my regular doctor who put me on more antibiotics and prednisone of 40mg and then to taper down. I then came down with a second cold/virus while I still had the first one so my doctor gave me the shot of antibiotic that lasts for 24 hours two days in a row and then gave me another antibiot and more prednisone. I was on that prednisone for about 3-4 weeks.
Avatar f tn s situation by that name, because when we do we are left with empiric medication trials (antibiotics, steroids) in the hope of picking correctly. While carefully chosen, such attempts are no more than scientific guesses. Obviously not an ideal situation. Your doctor has done a thorough work up. I assume that in addition to a negative Lyme disease test, that a more comprehensive "tick serology" profile was run.
Avatar f tn Hmm I'm not so sure. I've been getting bacteria in my throat from my fan. And for some reason the antibiotics they give me only cures a portion of it. I'm afraid this will do the same thing. It makes sense not to take the prednisone if there's no swelling. I guess once the clindamycin finishes then I guess I'll see what they'll prescribe me with. Maybe more antibiotics?
1580703 tn?1651904887 When hospitalized I refused the steroid and it created a hub-bub. I would not take prednisone with a lung infection unless it was absolutely positively necessary. As to what constitues "absolutely positively necessary" that is the million dollar question. In it's place I would take a beta agonist such as Foradil.
5501513 tn?1368894154 My breast surgeon was unsure of what was going on so on Dec 17th I had surgery. There were several masses with very think pus involved. She cleaned it all out and put me on extensive antibiotics. The results came back as Staph. Over the holidays I did large amounts of antibiotics, had a hospital stay and still the pain and masses were there. In January I had a picc line put in and did a month of IV antibiotics. Still no resolve. In March I had another surgery and more antibiotics.
Avatar m tn And she was also on nebulizer two or three times a day with elbueterol (spelling???) for her asthma too along with the prednisone. So I think she should wait a few weeks at least and see if she can go get blood drawn again.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with asthma 3 yrs ago. i still have symptoms everyday and attacks 2-3x a week. i've had a increase in symptoms in the last several months even to the point where it has become a quality of life issue for me. i recently asked my doctor about trying a very low dose of daily pred to releive my symptoms, to which he replied," it'll kill you." i figure my asthma will likely kill me long before the pred does.
Avatar f tn Prednisone is ocassionally administered simultaneously with antibiotics when the physician determines the benefits outweigh the risks. Prednisone also elevates blood sugars. You brother needs to go to a wound care facilility and take extra special care to maintain low blood sugars.
Avatar f tn You know what Prednisone is? I was in the ICU with serious lung problems and I was on Prednisone. Surely you at least have Bronchitis or Pneumonia.
Avatar n tn t know if it was a virus intially--it felt that way--scratchy throat, tender glands, ears plugged. That all persists, after two courses of antibiotics and prednisone. I am also nebulizing with albuterol every 4-6 hours. The bronchitis seems to have resolved, but when I venture outside my home even briefly, I get horrible attacks of coughing & nasal mucous. I feel trapped!
Avatar f tn He diagnosed me with bronchitis brought on my the sinus issue and scheduled an appointment with an allergist. Than ran the allergy test with negative results. Yes, all 58 pin pokes in the back were negative and then 17 injections under the skin of my forearms all came back negative. I have the septum surgery, that was 4 months ago. I've tried all kinds of meds to no avail. I'll list them at the end of my post.
Avatar m tn Thus, irrespective of dosage and duration, your childhood treatment with prednisone and antibiotics will in no way hinder your ability to produce antibodies had you acquired HIV now as an adult. Your test results are accurate. Other than for persons who have recently taken anti-HIV therapy in efforts to prevent infection and PERHAPS profoundly immunosuppressed persons such as those taking cancer therapy, "late seroconversion" is about as close to an urban myth for you as it gets.
Avatar m tn Hello, So I went to the doctor cause I thought I was getting pneumonia and the Doc had me do a PFT (which was low at 70 percent) and a blood O2 test (94 percent) and said that I had bronchitis and put me on some prednisone and a z-pack. After I finshed my meds I still felt the same. So I set up another appointment and right before I went in I started to feel better but my tests only showed I improved ten percent.
Avatar m tn My doctor has added another 21 days of antibiotics and the same dose of prednisone (starting with 30 mg/day and tapering to 10mg/day). I hope a total of 18 days of prednisone (with 10 days gap) is not too damaging. I will be going for surgery if this does not fix the problem. Is it normal for chronic sinusitis to cause so much tiredness/fatigue and feelings of malaise?
Avatar f tn At the end of February I took a 10 day round of antibiotics to treat strep throat. On the last day of treatment I discovered a largish discoloured, reddish spot on my shoulder. I left it alone, within a couple of days, my one spot had went to a few spots. I tried to get into my doctor and was unable to for one week. Instead I went to a walk-in, they gave me ketocozonole 2% and a steroid 1%. Two weeks later, the spots are starting to lose the redness, just look a little white and dry now.
1716896 tn?1308880762 So, when prednisone is prescribed to alleviate an allergic reaction and then upon stopping prednisone a rash flares up "with a vengeance" - ----1]Could it be an allergy to a bacteria, since I never developed a fever when my hand got infected and then spread and then swelled up my face, and I never finished the whole dosage of antibiotics? ------2]What type of doctor should one seek, besides a dermatologist or an allergist?
Avatar f tn he’s been on prednisone and Zyrtec the prednisone clears it up after seven days but then they come right back and then he goes right back on prednisone. He has had an blood allergy test and it came back negative on everything. he has a dermatology appointment on Thursday I don’t want to put him back on prednisone again he’s gaining weight the Zyrtec does nothing and he has not been on any antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I find this one helps with sleep and keeps me dry. Good luck and just be patient with the prednisone...it does work.
Avatar m tn Thank you, May I ask whay is the antibiotics taay you were using ? Had the problem already passed ?
