Avatar f tn I take it due to lupus. I have to take it. The side effects are only in the first trimester and my high Risk doctor said it's very rare. The pros out weigh the cons if you absolutely need it.
304653 tn?1217001302 there are other meds that are better for lupus without all of the side effects... if you end up having it be sure to shop for dr.'s and find someone who knows what they are doing..
Avatar f tn I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone, have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
Avatar f tn s no way to completely avoid weight gain or moon face as a side effect from prednisone. They are both known, common side effects and many people who have to take prednisone get them. I know about them first hand - I've had to be on prednisone quite often and often at VERY high doses, and I always get the moon face and weight gain with it, even if my eating/exercise habits don't change a bit.
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
471161 tn?1317190950 I have hair loss way before prednisone. Hair loss is a system of Lupus. 25% of people with Lupus get some hair loss.
8221281 tn?1397570972 Please look into this as I feel, is worthwhile and with no known side effects-this has been used in Ayurvedic Medicine for 1000s of years, with no issues, as an anti-inflammatory. AOR has a nano-available Boswellia supplement, if you wish to check it out. I think it has much greater bio-availability. Taking it with meals which contain fats (best is coconut oil-heated OK-, or olive oil but not heated!) The effectiveness gets boosted up to 700% (not a typo) when taken with fats!
1442059 tn?1340240952 I am on week one treating type A and feeling really bad side effects. I feel almost ready to do something drastic. I called the psychologist at the clinic and she said that the side effects are worse in the first week. Is this true? Or am I looking at 48wks of feeling so sick I can hardly walk and feeling like my head is going to explode never mind the crazy emotional stuff talk about the blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don;t know if I can even tolerate this.
Avatar f tn As long as you continue to take steroids you may have the side effects. The risks and benefits are weighed, before discontinuing steroid medications. So, please discuss this with your doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
507935 tn?1217359454 I am really surprised Erin that they removed you from the prednisone with Lupus? When I was first diagnosed back in 2001 they called it Lupoid Hepatitis. I probably won't be able to come off the prednisone because the joints in my upper body was so bad prior to treatment that I couldn't even fasten my bra. That took at least a year after being on the prednisone & imuran before that went away & I never want that back again. I couldn't even get a coat on by myself.
Avatar n tn I've noticed that after 3 months of daily prednisone that I have developed hair on my upper lip and jaw line. Has anyone else experienced side effects like this? I don't see how it will go away on it's own. How do you treat unwanted facial hair? This is quite upsetting to me. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Personally I would stay away from steroids if at all possible - at least for long stretches of time. 20+ years ago I was diagnosed with MCTD (a few years later, Lupus). I took prednisone daily for years, and periodically after that. I now have osteoporosis, which is one of the side effects of prednisone. Short term, steroids are great, but now I wish drs.had been more cautious about prescribing them for long periods of time...
Avatar f tn I don't know if it's a documented side effect of prednisone (lord knows it has enough of them anyway!) - but I certainly had it when I was on prednisone. the longer I was on it, the worse it got. It very well could be dose related, too, because I did notice it was worse when I was on the highest dose (120 mg daily at one point for over a year!). Fortunately, I was eventually able to get off the prednisone, but still need to go on it periodically for asthma, lupus and arthritis.
Avatar f tn Prednisone is a very, very powerful drug, so good and bad side effects. It shuts down your own adrenal system at anything over 5-7 mg a day I believe it is, so a whole bunch of psychiatric side effects are possible. Myself I was revved up, lots of energy, very out of it though and then horrible anxiety when they tried to taper me off - really painful. So welcome to the loonie club and we can all support each other....

1580703 tn?1651904887 what disease have you been diagnosed with that calls for the prednisone? Do you know the side effects of that medication? Side effects from prednisone can include increased thirst and urination, increased appetite and weight gain, dull, dry haircoat, increased panting, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated liver enzymes, pancreatitis, muscle wasting and behavior changes ( depression, lethargy). Source: www.cloudnet.com Prednisone mainly acts to speed up the aging process of the body.
Avatar m tn She told me that she had taken the steroid 3 different times for life or death situations and saved her life every time but left her with this crazy side effects. She told me every time she took it, the side effects left her within 32 days exactly but for me it didn't go away for months, and I sometimes still feel weird like the side effects but my aunt said this could just be stress or my mind playing tricks but either way I don't like it.
505094 tn?1240317431 re confused and fearful. Have you looked up the side effects of progesterone? I was on that years ago and couldn't tolerate it, but for the life of me I can't remember what happpened. Like you, I too have been on loads of meds. In your place I would ask as much as you can during your biopsy, and would also bombard your PCP with questions. He or she should be guiding you through all of this. The stress factor makes things incredibly worse.
608104 tn?1352587153 5 days 30mg; 5 days 20 mg; 5 days 10 mg. As I got better, side-effects were worse than the illness. Gastritis required re-starting sucralfate at least at bedtime, agitation and mood swings limited my cognitive function. I limited my driving because of distractibility. I'm 70 with ADHD. This is the second time I've followed the pulmonologist orders for the prednisone with side effects worse than the URI. I meet with my primary doctor today for post-infection followup.
