Avatar f tn One of the most important things to remember about takin ANY kind of steroid, is to majorly limit the amount of physical activity that you do. It speeds up your heart rate and can cause the shortness of breath, anxiety attacks, and so on. A good Albuterol inhaler can also help. The original Robitussin is the best 'over the counter' cough syrup. Not the DM or any of the others as they have alcohol in them and can harm you more than it will help.
Avatar n tn I've noticed that after 3 months of daily prednisone that I have developed hair on my upper lip and jaw line. Has anyone else experienced side effects like this? I don't see how it will go away on it's own. How do you treat unwanted facial hair? This is quite upsetting to me. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Prednisone is a very, very powerful drug, so good and bad side effects. It shuts down your own adrenal system at anything over 5-7 mg a day I believe it is, so a whole bunch of psychiatric side effects are possible. Myself I was revved up, lots of energy, very out of it though and then horrible anxiety when they tried to taper me off - really painful. So welcome to the loonie club and we can all support each other....
Avatar f tn Prednisone reduces the inflammatory response. A asthma flareup results in bronchial spasms twisting etc. causing wheezing and sever shortness of breath. These spasms are a inflammatory ressponse to a allergan trigger such as pollens or cigarrete smoke or anything you may be allergic to. Stress can also have severe bad effects on asthmatics. As well as COPD patients. Doctors know the bad effects of this drug. They use it with caution. Only keeping you on it as long as necessary.
Avatar m tn Obviously, you want to be on the prednisone for as short a time as possible to avoid long term side effects. However, NOT being on it is sometimes not an option. Everyone is different and can/will react to medications differently - and the side effects that one person experiences may not affect someone else with the same medication and dosage. So, unfortunately, it' simpossible for someone to tell you how long you can be on th eprednisone before side effects starting taking their toll.
Avatar f tn Steroids like prednisone do indeed increase blood sugar.
Avatar m tn My husband has been on and off high doses of Prednisone for the last year, and side effects are devastating, including the thinning of his skin---and lesions caused by cuts and scratches that he isn't even aware have happened, will his skin (on his arms mostly) return to normal at some point? will all of the bloating in his face and belly disappear at some point? All opinions accepted.....doctors refuse to admit his skin damage is due to Prednisone, but I have no doubt WHATSOEVER.
Avatar n tn How long does a one time dose of prednisone stay in your system, and how long can the side effects last?
Avatar n tn I have done some research and have found nothing good about this drug. She has all side effects. She is on day 1 with NO geodon.
Avatar f tn The symptoms you are experiencing I believe totally are related to the prednisone and its side effects. Some of them are secondary side effects, i.e., increased blood glucose will cause increased thirst and urination, as well as vision changes. Everything I know about prednisone is that at about 5mg IS where your own adrenals SHOULD kick in and take over, however, I think we both know that what they SHOULD do and what they actually do are two very different things.
Avatar f tn problem is , i had a severe reaction in hospital when they gave me prednisone not sure how much they gave me but i went from my normal self to someone no one reconized.i wanted to kill someone..i was severley aggressive which is nothing like me.my question is ...would it be possible to have the same reaction to cortisone..has me concerned.when admitted to hospital and they say they are going to give me prednisone i apoligize first for what i will say later...
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
Avatar f tn Hi, so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and long term pred use. It really is a nasty drug. I have also had problems with swelling at the end or after coming off the stuff. I have talked with several other people who have had the bloathing last over a month after stopping the medicine. I have found that drinking LOTS of water is helpful. I hope your side effects go away quickly. God bless.
446896 tn?1237802742 The length of time this takes depends on the amount of prednisone taken, and how long it was used. After large doses of this medicine for a long time, it may take up to one year to adjust.
Avatar f tn My Dr. was male- the one that diagnosed me. I went for another opinion from a female Dr. She did the rubber hammer test...didn't hit any tender points, and basically, shrugged me off. It depends on the Dr. and how far they are willing to go. Been Doctoring for Fibro since 1996. It's much worse now than it was then, and I thought it was bad, then. Anyway, my experience with Prednisone is that, the last time I took it, I broke out. I break out from anything, I swear!
