Avatar m tn Prednisone can cause a rise in blood sugar. Prednisone produces a wide variety of nasty side effects. It is surprising that it is used as frequently as it is.
Avatar f tn I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone, have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
Avatar n tn I've noticed that after 3 months of daily prednisone that I have developed hair on my upper lip and jaw line. Has anyone else experienced side effects like this? I don't see how it will go away on it's own. How do you treat unwanted facial hair? This is quite upsetting to me. Thanks!
1154802 tn?1266485720 Long-term use of prednisone or inhaled steroid does have serious side effects. It wrecks your adrenals, worsens your asthma, harms your eyes and, in my case, caused frightening choking. I don't use that junk anymore and take natural anti-inflammatories instead. No side effects to those. Check the new FDA warnings involving these poisons.
Avatar f tn Prednisone is a very, very powerful drug, so good and bad side effects. It shuts down your own adrenal system at anything over 5-7 mg a day I believe it is, so a whole bunch of psychiatric side effects are possible. Myself I was revved up, lots of energy, very out of it though and then horrible anxiety when they tried to taper me off - really painful. So welcome to the loonie club and we can all support each other....
Avatar f tn The symptoms you are experiencing I believe totally are related to the prednisone and its side effects. Some of them are secondary side effects, i.e., increased blood glucose will cause increased thirst and urination, as well as vision changes. Everything I know about prednisone is that at about 5mg IS where your own adrenals SHOULD kick in and take over, however, I think we both know that what they SHOULD do and what they actually do are two very different things.
Avatar n tn ----how long will I have to be on prednisone, it is playing havoc with my blood glucose levels and I am not diabetic ( yet )?---I cant even consider giong back to work in my present condition so I have some serious financial concerns, is there any help out there for me? Anyone with a similar situation I wpuld like to hear from with medical or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Avatar m tn She told me that she had taken the steroid 3 different times for life or death situations and saved her life every time but left her with this crazy side effects. She told me every time she took it, the side effects left her within 32 days exactly but for me it didn't go away for months, and I sometimes still feel weird like the side effects but my aunt said this could just be stress or my mind playing tricks but either way I don't like it.
505094 tn?1240317431 re confused and fearful. Have you looked up the side effects of progesterone? I was on that years ago and couldn't tolerate it, but for the life of me I can't remember what happpened. Like you, I too have been on loads of meds. In your place I would ask as much as you can during your biopsy, and would also bombard your PCP with questions. He or she should be guiding you through all of this. The stress factor makes things incredibly worse.
608104 tn?1352587153 5 days 30mg; 5 days 20 mg; 5 days 10 mg. As I got better, side-effects were worse than the illness. Gastritis required re-starting sucralfate at least at bedtime, agitation and mood swings limited my cognitive function. I limited my driving because of distractibility. I'm 70 with ADHD. This is the second time I've followed the pulmonologist orders for the prednisone with side effects worse than the URI. I meet with my primary doctor today for post-infection followup.
1807991 tn?1438779770 My side effects from prednisone have been anxiety, panic attacks, metal taste in mouth, sound intolerance, smell intolerance, communication disability, bladder infection feeling, rashes on vagina, even started a period like during tx, ( mentapause for 6 years) ...has anybody else had anything similar happen to them when given another drug regiment or am I alone on this one?
Avatar f tn Hi again. Do you mean that you fear side effects from this dose of Prednisone that you didn't get from much larger doses of the IV? Could you say why this is? Actually, IVSM is intravenous methylprednisolone, and it's considerably stronger than just Prednisone, even at the same dosage (as I learned a few weeks ago when we had quite a discussion here about this). So you've had much more of this than you'd thought.
Avatar f tn Hi, as far the present symptoms are concerend, probably they are due to prednisone only. Verapamil is the drug given in prophylaxis of migraine but it can not abort the attack once it get started. May be you need to taper the dose of prednisone as this drug is never withdrawn instantly. Do consult doctor for side effects.
Avatar f tn I know it is the side effects but was wondering if anyone has any ideas for relief of it. My back hurts as well I do use a heating pad on it and sometimes it helps but the neck, shoulders, and stomach are so uncomfortable. Does anyone do anything that helps with this?
Avatar m tn This is a complicated issue, regarding decisions best left to your physician. Use of many medications involves risk-benefit. A typical dose of prednisone will not result in a blood sugar of 577. It appears that your diabetes is out-of-control, for reasons that cannot be determined from your post. As far as "setting off an alarm bell", I am sure your provide knew that prednisone has a slight effect on glucose levels and didn't need to have an "alarm bell".
Avatar n tn If you are constantly eating and snacking during the day, a random blood glucose reading could be on the higher side. You would need to check your sugar fasting, and 1 or 2 hours after eating meals to really keep track of your blood sugar. Are you on insulin? oral meds?
Avatar f tn Hi Trudie. Thank you so much for the reply. It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone. When I was first diagnosed with SLE, I was immediately prescribed plaquenil and a low dose prednisone. I was a user of both medications for 10 yrs. A year or two back, the Rheumo which I had seen, took me off of the plaquenil and not long after that my primary took me off the prednisone due to testing negative on my ANA count.
Avatar n tn I took a one time dose of 40 mg of prednisone along with albuterol this past weekend due to being in an asthma attack, and Iam still experiencing side effects from the prednisone. How long does a one time dose of prednisone stay in your system, and how long can the side effects last?
