Avatar m tn Dogs don't do well on long term steroid treatment. Are you sure it's prednisone/prednisolone that he's taking? What is he taking the steroid for? Did he have seizures BEFORE starting the corticosteroid? How long has he been taking the corticosteroid? These are all important questions before an answer can be attempted.
Avatar f tn I am also diabetic @ bood sugars are higher than usual is this a side effect of prednisone, have 3 more days on prednisone should I stop?
Avatar m tn It is a very serious illness and unpleasant for your dog. And Prednisone treatment for 6 months is a long time. Prednisone is usually fine with no of very few side effects when given for a short course, But I guess your vet feels that this is the best treatment for your dog. Can you ask your vet about supportive treatments to cope with any side effects? Alternatively, maybe you could consult with a herbal or holistic vet, if you can find one near you or within driving distance.
Avatar m tn My husband has been on and off high doses of Prednisone for the last year, and side effects are devastating, including the thinning of his skin---and lesions caused by cuts and scratches that he isn't even aware have happened, will his skin (on his arms mostly) return to normal at some point? will all of the bloating in his face and belly disappear at some point? All opinions accepted.....doctors refuse to admit his skin damage is due to Prednisone, but I have no doubt WHATSOEVER.
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
Avatar n tn Took her back for one week checkup and vet explained large breed dogs some times react negatively to Prednisone by getting lethargic and haivng muscle atrophy. Cut her Prednisone in half and wanted to start her on Chlorambucil 2mg. I looked up that drug when I got home and learned it's used to treat cancer - and needs to be handled with gloves. I'm hesitant to give my dog that chemo-like drug.
Avatar n tn s muzzle. Prednisone does work great, but the side effects can be very bad-diabetes and a suppressed immune system which will make kitty more vulnerable to infections. I personally use an INHALED steroid which are much less likely to cause those problems-I'm not sure if these are available to cats or not. I'd definitely ask the vet about that-it would control your kitty's symptoms and make him/her a much happier kitty!
Avatar f tn I understand your scared. I've had to deal with 14 day runs of prednisone for a little over 3 years now & it *****. I experience these side effects even when I'm not on it because I've had to use it for so long. I started out with flu symptoms & we just can't get rid of it; I guess I'm just unlucky. I do see that the longer I'm off the prednisone the better I get so there is hope that you will not have to deal with the side effects much longer.
Avatar f tn Even safe drugs can have potential side effects. You must weigh these side effects against the benefit of controlling seizures. In short, this is a common practice to combine all of these drugs and they are not "unsafe" combinations in theory. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I've noticed that after 3 months of daily prednisone that I have developed hair on my upper lip and jaw line. Has anyone else experienced side effects like this? I don't see how it will go away on it's own. How do you treat unwanted facial hair? This is quite upsetting to me. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My daughter had a severe sinus infection with fluid/ear pressure buildup so painful, the doctor prescribed 20 mg of Prednisone, taken 3 times a day (60 mg) for 7 days, reduce to 2 for 2 days, then 1 for 1 day to keep from 'damaging her ear drum because the fluid buildup was so bad'. She's been taking it for 5 days and feel sick to her stomach, headaches - the only thing that has left is the pain in her ears. Is that an overdose what they gave her? Are these the side effects?
Avatar f tn Prednisone is a very, very powerful drug, so good and bad side effects. It shuts down your own adrenal system at anything over 5-7 mg a day I believe it is, so a whole bunch of psychiatric side effects are possible. Myself I was revved up, lots of energy, very out of it though and then horrible anxiety when they tried to taper me off - really painful. So welcome to the loonie club and we can all support each other....
Avatar f tn Damn!!!! Don't be upset with yourself....We PAY, medically trained Vets to make these decisions for us...It's not your fault.....I got to thinking: Because maintaince doses are done every other day; that leads me to believe that it must stay in their system for up to 48hrs. Does that make sense? Hang in there....And keep me posted....I'll be thinking about you...
Avatar n tn in looking at the package insert for Comfortis, there is no mention of weakness as a side effect of the drug in either the clinical studies on normal dogs, or the toxicity studies on laboratory dogs (the most common side effect was stomach upset in about 5-10%).
Avatar f tn has me concerned.when admitted to hospital and they say they are going to give me prednisone i apoligize first for what i will say later...
Avatar m tn She told me that she had taken the steroid 3 different times for life or death situations and saved her life every time but left her with this crazy side effects. She told me every time she took it, the side effects left her within 32 days exactly but for me it didn't go away for months, and I sometimes still feel weird like the side effects but my aunt said this could just be stress or my mind playing tricks but either way I don't like it.
608104 tn?1352587153 With a recent upper respiratory virus infection, I used a tapering dose of prednisone: 5 days 30mg; 5 days 20 mg; 5 days 10 mg. As I got better, side-effects were worse than the illness. Gastritis required re-starting sucralfate at least at bedtime, agitation and mood swings limited my cognitive function. I limited my driving because of distractibility. I'm 70 with ADHD.
505094 tn?1240317431 re confused and fearful. Have you looked up the side effects of progesterone? I was on that years ago and couldn't tolerate it, but for the life of me I can't remember what happpened. Like you, I too have been on loads of meds. In your place I would ask as much as you can during your biopsy, and would also bombard your PCP with questions. He or she should be guiding you through all of this. The stress factor makes things incredibly worse.
Avatar f tn was red and flushed only on head neck and face.....nowhere else......was told prednisone side effect....but being riddled with panic disorder I checked latuda site......rare but deadly side effect called nms...neuropaletic malignant syndrome.....symptoms are. Excess sweating,Bp changes, heart beat changes, rigid muscles confusion, fever, breathing changes......says if have any of these to call needs treatment in hospital......is this thing I'm going thru nms?
Avatar f tn Hi, all: Been diagnosed with SSHL (sudden sensory hearing loss) and tinnitus. I understand that the etiologies are vastly unknown but largely either viral or from ear/middle ear trauma or exposure. I've been put on antiviral Acyclovir. No problem- understand that. But the Prednisone, which of course I am taking and understand that if I don't the hearing loss on the right ear could either worsen or not return, has me a bit on edge.
Avatar f tn You can also try other meds. Even over-the-counter dramamine can be used for dogs. Reglan and phenergan are two other considerations. As with any medication, make sure you check with your vet first. Does your dog actually throw up on car trips? Is there a certain amount of time it takes to get really sick or is it immediate? You're doing a great job taking Rocky on short trips to get him used to car travel.
1807991 tn?1438779770 My side effects from prednisone have been anxiety, panic attacks, metal taste in mouth, sound intolerance, smell intolerance, communication disability, bladder infection feeling, rashes on vagina, even started a period like during tx, ( mentapause for 6 years) ...has anybody else had anything similar happen to them when given another drug regiment or am I alone on this one?
Avatar f tn ve taken oral Pred myself (not for MS) and had no side effects and also no front effects, as I like to call them, because it didn't work. I've had IVSM with no side effects whatever, though that's rare. I can't say that worked either, or actually it did immediately, after which things came roaring back. I finally experienced relief using gabapentin (Neurontin), increasing the dosage every few days till it worked. But my problems were sensory and not motor, like yours.
