Avatar f tn Prednisone is an immune system depressant, and in some cases the risk is worth the benefit. As stated many people become monsters when they are on this steroid. This is because whenever the immune system is depressed, the body develops a different personality. Genetically, this has survival value. Imagine a human wounded and unable to defend themselves. A verbally agressive action might keep a predator away. In the case of a severe asthmatic attack, oral predinsone may save a person's life.
451343 tn?1256250831 Awwww I am sorry your going through this and in some pain. I have been on prednisone a few times and a long time when I was younger, but still I don't remember much about it or any syptoms.
Avatar m tn was advised that i have type 2 diabetes and turning off my immune system while im already in a bout with it...it just seems extreme and i fear my condition will worsen since no immune protection.and increase of blood sugar levels. for a sore throat ??
Avatar m tn t take no medicines with no chronic health issues, how long will it take for the prednisone to get out of my system and I can go back to living a normal life
Avatar n tn I was given 3 50mg, pills of prednisone to be taken within 12 hours. As a preventative for an allergic reaction to iodine for a ct scan. After the last pill my breathing is tight, more coughing than usual and wheezing. Could this be caused from the prednisone? How long before it's out of my system?
471161 tn?1317190950 Also, in detoxifying your body, does it remove the medicines out of your system? I did a detox one time and it must have removed all my meds with it because I got sick and had sooo much pain until a few days passed and the med was built back up in my system. So detox stuff kind of makes me nervous now although I love the whole idea of it. Jessie, thanks for the info about the hairloss stopping after you get off Prednisone. I don't know how soon that will be for me.
1450484 tn?1284904131 (1) Prednisone destroys your immune system. The cure for your infections (prednisone) is likely the cause. (2) I suffered very badly with a productive cough so bad I thought it would tear me apart until a respiratory therapist suggested Mucomyst (aceltycisteine). The cure was immediate and I have not coughed since I started using it. You might also want to try taking 500 mg of vitamin B5 daily. Like Mucomyst it thins mucus (though not as drammatically), but it also reduces inflammation.
293157 tn?1285873439 The vestibular system is your balance system. I had a VNG test which tests the inner ear and CNS to see where there can be a deficit causing the dizziness. During the caloric portion of the VNG test, I showed a deficiency in the "vestibular" system on my right side. The caloric testing shows if you have a unilateral or bilateral inner ear problem causing the dizziness. Basically, if you have a discrepancy during this test, it is due to peripheral causes and not CNS.
Avatar f tn He gave you prednisone for a cold? I would think that 24 hours is time to get it out of your system but it would be better to ask the Pharmacist at your drug store, and certainly enquire about the prednisone maybe the Doc thinks you have something aswell as a cold?
Avatar f tn Get off the prednisone as soon as possible. You have a "twitchy" lung. Often a single day or two of oral prednisone will "settle things down". Often, following a viral lung infection a bacterial infection develops, which covered the alveoli with a thin film. As posted here many "asthma problems" are the result of persistant low-grade bacterial infections. These often develop after a viral infection.
Avatar n tn I have allergies and still have strong symptoms despite being on the prednisone. Is this normal? Is it possible that my immune system has adapted to the prednisone and is still attacking through it? My UC flare has not abated despite the high dose of prednisone and continued use. My doctor had me do a blood test to see if I'm eligible for Imuran. I'm worried that my allergies and flare will still continue even with the Imuran since it only weakens my immune system.
1125622 tn?1295420118 A single dose certainly will not affect your system. As a matter of fact you need to be on it longer then a week before a taper is even considered. Using prednisone for under a month will not result in long term side effects. However being on multiple prednisone treatments through out the year is additive and you could experience more serious side effects. Ideally for asthma you shouldn't require more then 1 or 2 prednisone (14 -16 days) treatments per year for asthma exacerbations.
Avatar m tn Not only will you gain weight, you will destroy your immune system and weaken your bones. And in my case it caused adrenal fatigue with consequent anxiety and panic attacks. The is not an uncommon side effect and a case of the cure being worse than the illness. I switched over to natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics and am happier and healthier for it and there are no side effects. How bad is your COPD? What stage are you in?
Avatar n tn How long does a one time dose of prednisone stay in your system, and how long can the side effects last?
583182 tn?1218138465 Am trying to conceive and was just prescribed a 6 day prednisone pack for herniated disc. Wondering if it's safe to continue trying or should we wait until in done with the medication. And if I should wait, how long until it's out of my system?
Avatar n tn Is this from the steroids? If so, when will it pass? How long does prednisone stay in your system? I also have a racing heart and feel a little anxious. I am unsure if that is because I feel very hot or if it's just me experiencing anxiety. My face also feels a little tight and is dry. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
Avatar f tn My doc in Oslo says that If im going on prednisone I have to take a horse-dose and she understood my feelings about not wanting to do it. Think I migth have asked you before.. :-)) I also thinks the bleeding is a bit scary. Wonder why its starts to bleed.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently prescribed prednisone to help treat a bad bout of bronchitis I've been fighting to reduce the inflammation in my lungs. I didn't mention that I was starting to get another cold on top of the bronchitis, a little bit of a stuffy nose and a sore throat. The nice thing is that the prednisone has helped alleviate those cold symptoms, but I've read that it can weaken your immune system. I'm only supposed to take the prednisone for 5 days total.
Avatar f tn He weighs only 25 lbs. After the first two 20 MG doses of Prednisone, I cut his dosage in half to 10 MG. Today I gave him only 5 MG and will obviously skip his evening dose and that will be the end of it. But his panting and shaking are worse tonight... it is scary to watch.
Avatar f tn Some of the uses of prednisone include treating autoimmune disorders, skin diseases, disorders of the endocrine system, exacerbations of multiple sclerosis, respiratory diseases (such as acute asthma exacerbation) and rheumatoid arthritis. Prednisone has many different side effects associated with its use.

Avatar m tn it is very sad when you place your trust in someone and they let you down. Regarding the question about the sponges causing cancer...it is highly unlikely. It is theoretically possible that the foreign body has weakened the immune system and therefore increased the risk of cancer but that is not likely. As far as treatment of the lung mass is concerned, you are welcome to try Essiac tea however the industry has tried to show proof that it works and simply put, it does not.
Avatar m tn I believe I've read here that prednisone reduces your chances of SVR because it supresses the immune system thereby undoing interferon's effect. No wonder it makes you feel good.
