1361044 tn?1277598308 Honestly, in my opinion, babies are so wrapped up in this new world, all the new things going in for them, that a little cold (virus) hardly slows them down. it could be your baby is behind because she doesn't feel well all the time, and THAT is holding her back. Maybe not, but in either case I would push for them to figure it out. Chalking it all down to a virus is a lazy, sorry excuse. My point is, YOU DO know your child more than anyone.
Avatar f tn I feel Gerd and milk allergy are grossly overdiagnosed in infants. Lactose overload has been diagnosed in breast-fed infants now - and I believe it is also found in babies.
Avatar f tn What does candidiasis have to do with my post? I was asking how to deal with environmental asthma in infants.
Avatar f tn My son, who is 7 months old, was recently diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. The diagnosis was confirmed on Mar 10, 2014 and he was also diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Anyone have this happen with an infant? I'm trying to figure out what the next steps are in the event of an increase in fluid and pressure. He also is having to see a pediatric eye doctor to check the eye pressure in his eyes.
Avatar f tn my daughter is 3 months old ,she has been passing mucus in stools for about 4 weeks now and some times there are spots of blood in the mucus ,I took her to the doc but not found the cause yet
372680 tn?1228161610 Last week I had another x-ray and it was determined that I am now pneumonia-free (finally). Unfortunately, my breathing has not improved so I was put on the oral steroid Prednisone (in replacement of the Advair because you can't mix and match your steroids like clothes :P). Prednisone is tapered off so you don't experience withdrawls, so my medication dosage has been this: four pills for two days, three pills for two days, two pills for two days and one pill for two days.
Avatar m tn Hello, So I went to the doctor cause I thought I was getting pneumonia and the Doc had me do a PFT (which was low at 70 percent) and a blood O2 test (94 percent) and said that I had bronchitis and put me on some prednisone and a z-pack. After I finshed my meds I still felt the same. So I set up another appointment and right before I went in I started to feel better but my tests only showed I improved ten percent.
Avatar f tn It will remain in baby's system. Especially if you took them for more than 2 weeks. You need to let your OB know even if it leaves both systems because if you we're abusing them and taking them for a long period of time we can't diagnose the outcome. No judgement, but please for the sake of your innocent baby tell your Dr. You made the right decision to stop taking them. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn Fluid develops in the small sac surrounding the testicle. Its fairly common in infants and typically resolves on its own. Sometimes it may need drained but it will likely just be watched to make sure it will resolve on its own within a few months.
Avatar n tn Hi Aidens_Mom, Ya it's new to me also that asthma causes a 103 degree fever! Asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around. When steroids are inhaled into the lungs to treat asthma it creates an immune suppression and can make the person more susceptible to infection. This is a scary thing for a mother not to mention your son and should be investigated further. I would recommend they refer you to a Immunologist, and have the level of antibodies your son has evaluated.
Avatar f tn But this time the doctor gave me Clindamycin and the bacteria is going away in the tonsils but not in the back of the throat yet. So I made an appointment next week just in case it is still there and I would have to take prednisone all over again?
Avatar n tn Unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia in term and late preterm infants. Premature infants are at greater risk for hyperbilirubinemia because brain toxicity occurs at lower levels of bilirubin than in term infants. As a result, premature infants are treated at lower levels of bilirubin but with the same treatments discussed here. Encourage feeding — Providing adequate breastmilk or formula is an important part of preventing and treating jaundice.
Avatar f tn My last round of IV steroids was for 3 days in early April. Since then I have had only nominal relief in my sensory symptoms, which sound similar to yours. I had entire left side numbness (shoulders to toes) and dysthesia in my L hand and arm. I have the same feeling in my L hand; tightness like the circulation is cut off. Paradoxically, I find wrapping the area snugly with a compression bandage to provide some temporary relief. An ice pack seems to help too, albeit also temporarily.
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
Avatar m tn My 4 month old son has been diagnosed with high myopia (-20 in one eye and -22 in the other). We have seen two specialists and they recommend different methods of treatment. Specialist A recommends fully correcting his vision with contacts; however, specialist B recommends under-correcting him by approximately 30%. Specialist B believes if we fully correct his vision now it will only get worse over time; however, if we under-correct there may be some improvement.
Avatar f tn It has the disadvantage of raising blood pressure, and very expensive, but it works very well and in some cases can eliminate the need for oral prednisone and all other medications. The manufacturer has a special till December and will give a months free supply to any physician making a request.
Avatar m tn Prednisone isn't going to necessarily treat shortness of breath. It depends on what is causing the SOB. Prednisone is a steroid that is going to reduce the inflammation in your bronchioles and lungs. It will help SOB from the inflammation, but not if your bronchioles and/or lungs are full of mucous. If you still can't get your breath, it maybe that your lungs are chock full of mucous-y goodness.
