Avatar m tn Went to the dr today for a bite and he says it's either a bee sting or a wasp sting he gave me .20 mg of prednisone 3 pills for 10 days....why is that? I thought I should get an antibiotic.
Avatar n tn Could this be a delayed reaction to the wasp sting.?? I dont recall ever being stung by a wasp and i am 49 years old. Thank you.
Avatar m tn The other day I was out golfing and I got stung on the top on my head by either a bee or a wasp, the swelling started but worsend after a nights sleep. Shortly after I noticed two bumps on thr back on my neck. So now I'm wondering, is it normal for bug bites and sting to cause lymp nodes to swell?
Avatar m tn It is highly unlikely that the wasp sting could damage your eye UNLESS the sting was to the eyeball espcially the cornea. If it was on the lids likely no problem. What you are describing likely is a vitreous floater however I would contact your ophthalmologist and go in for an exam.
Avatar n tn Hi, Most bee and wasp stings are not serious. A minor sting can be painful and sometimes cause a little swelling, redness, burning, or itching at the site of the sting. Hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, and ants do not leave their stingers, but bees can. If any part of the stinger remains, scrape it out immediately with your fingernail or the edge of a credit card. Do not push on the stinger, or you may squeeze more poison into the wound.
Avatar n tn Be careful about the next sting. Sometimes the body becomes super-sensitive and a second sting may cause a severe reaction.
Avatar f tn Most people stung by a wasp will have only swelling, itching, and pain at the site of the sting. However, for those allergic to wasps, difficulty in breathing, loss of consciousness, swelling of the throat, face and lips may occur. Remove the stinger by scraping a blunt object over the area. Do not use tweezers, since these may squeeze the venom sac and increase the amount of venom released. Place ice wrapped in a washcloth on the site of the sting for 10 minutes.
Avatar f tn It can also be an allergy to wasp sting, aggravated by the second sting. If you have this allergy, it needs to be identified as subsequent stings may cause a more severe reaction. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I was stung 4 times by a wasp that flew up my pant leg and tried to sting its way out. Failed. However I have 4 3" diameter red circles around each sting site. Never reacted this way with other stings. Could it be my haywire autoimmune system or the copaxone I am on or my MS that exacerbated it? Welcoming any thoughts. Was diagnosed in Jan. I take a daily antihistimine. I think I will apply a hydrocortisone tonight. It is warm to the touch. No itch.
Avatar n tn Hi, I got stung by a wasp 10 days ago on my ankle. It was hurting and swollen for a day or so then went. Over the last couple of days the area around the sting has become itchy. However yesterday and today the area is red, itchy and has a rash/hives (looks like a nettle rash) around it. Do I need to do anything further or will this just stop/go away?

Avatar f tn Yes, we are wondering if his reaction was built up as a result was as a result of venom from other stings or if this reaction was from this particular wasp. We do know for certain that this was his only sting in the Philippines. We do know that this particular wasp is native to the tropics. The doctor here said that if we leave the country he might not react to other wasp stings in the US. We were just wondering if that advice is correct.
335728 tn?1331414412 If so, it sounds very much like a bite of some kind, or even a bee-sting. Bee stings can swell like heck -even wasp stings can. I know, I've had a few! And they can really throb and hurt. That in itself could make her feel quite yuck. I am sure if she were actually allergic to something like that, she would have shown more dramatic symptoms quite quickly. But if by chance it happened to be a spider bite, then she would need to see the vet urgently.

Avatar f tn In your case the bee sting can be responsible for these hives. The mainstay of treatment of hives is antihistamine which may be necessary for prolonged periods (in excess of 6 weeks). You can take antihistamines such as Cetirizine or Loratadine. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms.

3934531 tn?1348668274 it is possible spider bite and with this reaction you need to be treated Soon--especially if a brown recluse spider---see if there is a circle around the bite (in case of lyme tick)---Now if you don't go to a doc or er you take a gamble--unless it starts getting better right away--then maybe wasp or ant or ???? If it is my child we are already at the er or same-day clinic!
Avatar m tn One night while sleeping 6 years ago i was awoken by a sharp stinging pain in the mid outer thigh muscle (left side) - thinking it was a spider or wasp i checked the bed and saw nothing. The wasp like sting occured the following night in roughly the same location. Following each "sting" the leg went numb, much like the muscle around a wasp bit does. No swelling though, no pin ***** of blood, and I can't recall any red mark showing.
539780 tn?1213943976 After a few days if still swollen running hot water over the sting area makes it drain faster. Like hot water in the shower for 15 minutes twice a day on that spot. For me the swelling will stay for a good 2 weeks. But if I repeat hot water over the sting area I an make it go away in just a few days. By now you would have known if you were allergic. So if you had an allergic reaction other than swelling take antihistamine before running hot water over it.
Avatar n tn Antihistamine such as diphenhydramine may be used for itching and ibuprofen for pain relief as needed. Wash the sting site with soap and water and if it has been more than 10 years since your last tetanus booster immunization, get a booster within the next few days.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, this can be a insect sting due to wasp insect or bee. With insect sting, the symptom varies from minor bite pain to life threatening anaphylactic shock. The types of manifestations encountered are local reactions, systemic allergic reactions, toxic reactions, and delayed reactions. Local reactions are the most common type of response to insect stings and are seen immediately, and include swelling, erythema, and pain, affecting areas that are seen with the sting site.
