Avatar n tn I was put on a course of prednisone. Soothed the pain at the higher doses then came back as I weened myself off the prednisone. (Also, I completely lost my appetite and lost 10 lbs.) I was put on another course of prednisone. Soothed the pain at the higher doses then came back as I weened myself off the prednisone. (This time I couldn't get enough food and gained back the weight.) Then I was referred to a physical therapist. They didn't know what to do for costochondritus.
Avatar f tn I have Celiac Disease and 4 years ago I was on 80 mg of Prednisone for over 8 months. I had a difficult time getting off the Prednisone, requiring a total of 12 months of treatment to get the Colitis under control. My question is this. I told the Orthopedic Surgeon about both of these occurances with cortisone. He didn't feel I would have a problem with cortisone injected into the joint, so I had the injection.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the medhelp neurology forum. Thanks for writing in. Sciatica is pain resulting from irritation of sciatic nerve. it is typically felt from the low back to behind the thigh and radiating down below the knee. It is most commonly caused due to a herniated disc or adjacent bone, tumor, muscle irritating the nerve. treatment options include addressing the underlying cause for the symptoms, medications to relieve pain and inflammation and relax muscles, physical therapy.
Avatar m tn At the age of 33, one day I was fine, healthy etc. Went to bed and the next morning woke up with excruciating pain deep inside my r/knee area. Couldn't get out of bed or walk. That was the start of my (disease)? Went to an orthopedist. Got cortisone injection, gave me anti-inflammatories, sent me home told me to rest. Pain never went away, but it subsided a bit. Pain flared up again after about a month, ortho referred me to rheumatologist. More anit-inflammatories for a while.
Avatar f tn ve had UC for 22 years and have been on several different medications. I was on Prednisone for 14 years and never gained a pound. In February of 2009 I was put on Lialda after a 4 year remission. I gained 10 pounds within two weeks, all on my stomach. Last November, I had another flare that lasted 4 months (I never lost a pound even though I was eating very little). The doctor quadrupled my dose of Lialda, and again more weight gain around my stomach and nowhere else.
Avatar f tn does not sound like u were adddicted to them...good thing to stop now if u no longer need them for pain...as it is something that can happen with prolonged use..glad ur knee is better!
1378884 tn?1315505845 AWESOME answer!. It's what I thought he was doing, ruling out RA. I don't seem to have the typical RA symptoms (which is reassuring) either. I have had to adjust my movement because of the R hip and now am having issues with my Left Knee. Crazy!. Anyway your help will provide me with conversation material with my Doc in a couple weeks. The Prednisone is really not helping the hip or back pain pain as of yet but it's early.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the welcome and your comments. I had been taking prednisone for 34 months for symptoms of the polymyalgia. I had decreased this to 1 ml for 2 months before stopping it. The last month I had taken 1 ml of pred one day on and one day off for a week, then 1 ml with two days off for a week, then 1 ml with 3 days off for a week and so on until I had stopped. There were no sx's for a month, then both legs began to swell, and I could not bend my knee joints.
Avatar f tn s not related to the knee pain, as I have had two previous surgeries on the knee. I already have had the preop physical. Surgery is schedules in two days. The rash is somewhat itchy-burny, and almost reminds me of prickly heat. Its now going down the back of my thighs. I have had the same thing happen twice in a matter of months. No change in soaps or detergents. Each time it happened, my family Dr. put me on prednisone and it cleared up somewhat. Seems odd.
Avatar m tn I just took 10mg of prednisone for my asthma Now i have bad pain in my legs and weakness above the knee and my feet are burning anyone else have this happen?
1797277 tn?1315628907 i have the same problem, in my lower back hip and knee, like a real painfull pain that i cant walk, im sorry im not much help, mines been going since i had growing pains but wasnt bad i thought it was just from doing sports but as ive gotten older its gotten more painfull and more serious to me.
Avatar f tn a month ago I started getting a (very) random stabbing/burning pain in the back of my left leg about 4 inches above my knee. The first time it happened I had been riding in the car for about 2.5 hours (with two stops during the trip). The pain was so bad it dropped me to me knees.I figured it was the long car ride. I have gotten twinges of it since, but today I was waking up and just laying in bed and it happened again. It hurts intermittently for a couple of minutes and then stops.
Avatar n tn I mid August of 2008, I was in the middle of about a 30 minute walk and all at once I felt a sharp pain behind my right knee. I didn’t think too much of it and continued on. After a couple of minutes, my right foot started feeling a little numb. Again, I continued the rest of the way home and rested it when getting there. The numbness went away within the hour.
785373 tn?1236328403 Just a few weeks ago, i went to my first appointment at a pain clinic (after my primary care doc decided that my pain issues were too complicated for her, as I have a HIGH tolerance for pain meds and need them increased regularly to be effective.) When I shared with this new doc my explanation I was given, he rolled his eyes, and then said that he believed my pain was psychological!!!? What the heck?
4823849 tn?1373657829 Yep, he says it is a nerve pain too. Dr said it has to do with nerves being cut and then healing. BF says the nerve pain is worse than the actual surgical pain. I would mention it to your Dr. Rebound pain is real pain. Our minds have quit putting out the natural pain killers since we have force fed it pain meds. When we take away the pain meds, our brain doesn't know how to respond to pain. It's been asleep for a while, so to speak.
703031 tn?1398963307 The pain extends from the outside of my hip and leg down to the knee. I get this from time to time and it goes away in a day or two after using heat and avoiding sleeping on that side. This started about a year ago. This time the pain is refusing to go away. It went on about a week when I decided to call the doctor, and it was another week before I could get in to see them. While waiting to see the doc, I decided to see a chiropractor.
Avatar f tn We did a VERY fast taper on Prednisone (40 mg -4 days) the fifth day I ballooned particularly the face and knee. A week later Went in for my maintenance dose allergy shot and had a systemic reaction to it immediately ( first time). Something has my body hyper reactive - so I am wondering if I could be reacting to the stuff that is in my knee? The knee stays a little bit swollen and two tender spots but not red nor itchy. Grasping for straws....
Avatar f tn I know that joint pain is a side effect of taxol, however, could this have caused the knee and back pain that i have been experiencing for the last four and a half years? I needed to be pre-medicated with benadryl and prednisone due to a reaction i had shortly after my first taxitier treatment. Does my body reacting adversely to the chemo in the first place cause more severe side effects? I'm curious to know because i have had lumbar pain and knee pain ever since my chemotherapy.
293157 tn?1285873439 I have often wondered if some of my shoulder, knee and hand pain might be from arthritis or bursitis. Maybe through all these other test, I will find out!! I can't answer the question about inflammation, just don't know the answer. Take care and let us know if the Prednisone works good for you.
Avatar n tn The doctor may recommend trying something like Synvisc, which is a material injected into the knee to provide temporary cushioning, like a temporary replacement for cartilage. My father in law had this done and it did provide relief for a while, but again this may only put off surgery for an additional couple years. A custom-made knee brace, if he doesn't already have one, can also ease pain and swelling during activity.
107366 tn?1305680375 While your waiting for the pain to go away get on a veggie/fruit diet with lots of water. Hope it works for you too! *Warning: Colchicine (used since the 1800's) just went up in price 10X - which is because of an FDA created monopoly for Colcyrs - so I hope you have insurance - there are vouchers available or you can get old colchicine from outside U.S.. Also write a letter to the FDA to stop the corruption.
Avatar f tn Please anyone out there any idea of what is going on with my mother, the doctor just tells her to take prednisone for the pain. However, I want to know the reason behind the pain and why does it seem is moving around?. Please any advice is greatly appreciated, let me know if I should ask the doctor for any additional tests to rule out other diseases.
Avatar f tn But around June 2022, I noticed that I started having some slight knee pain plus heel pain, I didn’t put much attention, thinking it was probably due to my heavy workouts. I would give myself about 3 days to rest and continued lifting weights twice a week. Fast forward to July 2022 I noticed a red lump on my thigh and had it checked out by my dr. who said it was a lipoma.
Avatar m tn Once you re-evaluate your pain levels a few things that have worked for me are epidural shots for my back, prednisone tapers, exercise , Tiger balm is AWESOME for aches and pains. Aleve etc.. Look into finding a doc who you can be honest with and explain what you are looking to accomplish and that you wish to do it without narcotics. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I sit down for 5-10 minutes and the pain subsides slightly for 10-15min, but continues until I can get home and lay in bed. The pain has never woken me up in the middle of the night, however it does make it difficult to get to sleep. I am hoping that it is realistic for me to get something to relieve the pain so I can work pain free.

Avatar n tn Last day I had numbness in chin and prickly/itchy pins in various body part (along with ongoing back pain, swelling, hip and knee pain (one knee with mild effusion) and general hypertonicity). Doc thought may be MS. MRI showed 8mm atypical vague lesion in subcortical area of left frontalparietal lobe at midline. Spinal tap, slightly high Albumen, but tap no good said neuro since done after low dose steroid. 6 months later, no change in MRI.
