223237 tn?1302188391 Depo-medrol is excellent for the management of IBS in kitties. You do need to keep a close eye on her for signs of diabetes, as steroids do tend to cause diabetes after extended use , however cats are MUCH more tolerant of steroids than dogs are, and most of them respond well to the depo-medrol when it comes to the IBS.
Avatar n tn Took her back for one week checkup and vet explained large breed dogs some times react negatively to Prednisone by getting lethargic and haivng muscle atrophy. Cut her Prednisone in half and wanted to start her on Chlorambucil 2mg. I looked up that drug when I got home and learned it's used to treat cancer - and needs to be handled with gloves. I'm hesitant to give my dog that chemo-like drug.
Avatar f tn My female cat is 21 years old and has irritable bowel syndrome as well as and intractable upper respiratory problem. She has been on daily prednisone for the IBS, but the vet said over time it would suppress her immune system and her upper resp. problem will become worse. That is exactly what has happened. We tried the nebulizer, but that didn't really help--she still sneezed her head off and sprayed mucus everywhere!
443004 tn?1205266624 I have a Scottish fold 71/2 yoa n/m who has had chronic IBS his whole life. He is now in crisis and the doctors aren't sure if he has developed lymphoma because of it with out further testing $2000-$3000 they are treating symptoms now. which remains as bloody diarrhea, anemia and occasional vomiting. His last bad episode he lost several pounds so now he is on: Leukran every 3 days, prednisone metrodiazionole and forta flora. his diet is royal canin duck wet.
1483944 tn?1288100910 ve been told I have IBS! The specialist said my symptoms are typical of Crohns but has given me meds for IBS. The Buscopan isn't working, the codeine is not working like it used to, i have been taking it for 4yrs though! I told my GP that i'm in daily pain, have bowel issues, not sleeping well and my appetite just comes and goes.... He just gives me same meds, tells me to drink my Ensure when i cant eat and i'll be ok. BUT I'M NOT OK! He just won't listen!
Avatar f tn if all r normal then finaly u shoud go for colonoscopy.then u fix that u have ibs i mean all r normal and failed to diagnoged.lost of weight and weakness r not symtoms for ibs.
Avatar n tn I also have a dull ache in the right hand side which is now creeping up into my Right Kidney........It took a while before I was diagnosed with Crohns (since May 2008), as all my blood test results and scans were coming back normal, which was so frustrating, as, I also was being treated for IBS which I knew it wasn't as I have had IBS for 10 years!
Avatar f tn I also have panhypopituitarism. I have been on 5mg of prednisone since my dx in 96. I have been doing some research and am interested in finding out more about constant subcutaneous infusion of hydrocortisone. My days start off OK but by 5pm I am very fatigued.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I took 10mg prednisone and then I'm coming down now with fever- the flagyl maybe didn't work completely for this possible amoeba infection EH
Avatar n tn ll have it all his life...he has been given Mitronitizole for it, as well as Metacam for pain, but I want something that can be given that will keep this thing under control..I hate seeing Shad have a bad day with pain when he poos, and such...Is there something better than this course of action? Something that can keep the inflammation and pain under management, so he can have the best possible quality of life??? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have had tinnitus and vertigo for many years. 7 years ago I was put on prednisone for myalgia pain. My pain went away but it had no affect on my hearing. It did affect my belly....it bloated out like a pregnant woman...lol...I got off prednisone back in january of this year. If you can avoid it then avoid it. If you need it for other reasons and not for hearing then I guess you have to continue taking it until it does not good for you.
Avatar f tn "Some blood tests." That is not helpful. Did they test for Celiac disease? Also, I doubt they tested for antiphospholipid syndrome, but after reading about it, I think I have that and you might too. If you have ever thought your blood seemed too thick, you might have it. Adding Ginkgo biloba or a baby aspirin would probably treat it if that's the problem. Nutritional deficiencies happen in both of these conditions, and they will take a terrible toll on your energy.
Avatar n tn s sounds like a form of IBS.. Reading your symptoms sounds just like Ulcerative Colitis. I had all those symptoms. Watch out for oral iron supplements. They made me flare BIG TiME. I didn't even know it was caused by the iron until i forgot to take them one day. skip a dy or 2 of the iron tabs and see how you feel. All the symptoms may dissipate . If you don't feel you got the proper diagnosis, go to a different Gastro dr. Good ones are hard to find, but they are out there.
Avatar n tn I was given a lot of antibiotics at the hospital and also prednisone for about two months after the pneumonia. I wll have to trythe probiotics that you mentioned. I just want to feel normal again. I have been so depressed about my health lately, especially losing so much hair every day. I am starting to wonder if I will need to purchase a wig soon, I sure hope not!!
Avatar n tn After many months of diet changes, parasite testing, and many trips to the vet, he was finally diagnosed with a pancreatic enzyme deficiency and IBS. He is now on Prednisone and another medication Tylan, which is actually used in cows for bacterial problems. Between the two meds, his diarrhea is now under control. Has your vet tested your dog for giardia and/or other parasites ? There are some that can cause diarrhea, and dogs can get IBS. I wish you the best with your pet.
1580703 tn?1651904887 thanks for any advice! I've been prescribed prednisone for 1 month at 10mg/day and heard that it can be bad for the liver and cause adrenal damage. Is this true?
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
1156568 tn?1263269648 Did you take the prednisone with food? It can really bother your stomach if you take it on an empty stomach. Looking at Salagen, it didn't look like there was much difference between it and a placebo related to stomach problems.
Avatar n tn How is it that so many people are suffering for 10, 15 or even 20 yrs with the same symptoms and all the doctors can come up with is IBS, or Crohn's, or blah, blah, blah. "Here take these prescriptions that will cost you an arm and a leg plus give you an addition 20 unpleasant side effects". It's B.S. not IBS. Plain and simple. Don't plan on getting well soon. "They" don't want us to...
Avatar n tn I have apparently had IBS for about 4 years now. Im in my early 20's and it seems to be getting gradually worse. I have just started taking dicitel, which seems to help only a little bit. I was diagnosed with IBS just by being questioned by my doctor. Does anyone know how accurate a diagnosis is without any tests? Does anyone know what tests are the most useful or what ones I should ask for?
