1580703 tn?1651904887 I got bell's palsy after being hit in the face several times. I'm still disfigured 7 months after and can't smile well. Is there going to be any improvement in the future? will taking acyclovir or prednisone help?
Avatar m tn My son had bell's palsy 6 months ago. His affected eye was bigger but now appears marginally smaller than the normal eye. Also when he smiles spontaneously the affected eye tends to close more than the normal eye. Will his affected eye get even smaller over the next few months or will it stay at this level ? He is 21 years old and was treated with prednisone for 7 days when he was first diagnosed with bell's palsy.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have had Bell's Palsy and took prednisone for 5 days and a week later started acyclovir but I've been having blindness, extremely blurry, gray vision in my affected eye and can't widen that eye pupil or shut it. I think the eye muscle may be paralyzed too and I can't speak or remember well.
Avatar m tn It's fairly characteristic of the onset of Bell's palsy. Usually the problem disappears on it's own within 30-90 days. It results from inflammation of a cranial nerve. There a number of possible etiologies. It is very disconcerting if you have to interact with the public. Sometimes oral prednisone will make this go away, but prednisone has many side effects.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, but I am a patient with Lupus that required Prednisone therapy during pregnancy. In the fifth month and at that dosage I would not worry too much. Ask the OBGYN if she can just take 20mg in the morning though because taking 10mg at night may cause her to have problems sleeping. Was the doctor able to determine what triggered the Bell's Palsy? Was your wife checked for gestational diabetes, high blood pressure etc?
172023 tn?1334672284 He has completed his antibiotics for what was presumed to be the ear infection, and has also completed his antivirals and prednisone for the Bells Palsy which developed 3 days later. He had a CT scan in the ER when his symptoms began, which was reportedly negative. He is slowly improving, so far as the severe pain, the inability to close his eye, and the droopy mouth is concerned. The problem now is that he is becoming extremely fatigued every day.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry, but I have forgotten to include that I developed Bell's Palsy about 2.5 weeks ago, and just finished a 7 day perscription of valtrex (3/day) and predisone about 4 days before that first friday in my post. Bell's Palsy is associated with the HSV1 and I have gotten cold sores since i was really young, so I wasn't completely surprised about that. The bell's palsy is actually much much better now, and should get fully better in about a week.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hello and hope you are doing well. Though the facial nerve is a cranial nerve, damage usually takes place peripherally, thats when it is referred to as bell's palsy. This can cause inadequate closure of the eyelids and consequent exposure keratitis. Why was acyclovir given? It is usually given for a viral infection. As you are recovering, I would advise you to continue with your medications and physical therapy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1580703 tn?1651904887 after 3 months and a week of prednisone and acyclovir I'm still disfigured from Bell's Palsy, I look terrible when I try to smile and sometimes my head turns when I try to smile. I tried acupuncture, it seems to help is there any hope for me to regain my nerve function and smiling?
Avatar f tn My friend has been ill for the last 5 days and was diagnosed with a sinus infection yesterday. She is experiencing pain in and around her ear and hearing loss in the left ear. She also has a cyst that's been there for a long time..that gets larger when she is sick. The cyst is painful to touch. She was prescribed Amoxiclav for the sinus infection yesterday. Within 10 minutes of taking the medicine, she experienced dryness and numbness of the tongue.

Avatar f tn I am 25 years old and have suffered from severe fatigue for the past few years. I have had multiple medical conditions to include severe cervical dysplasia, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and ovarian tumors, all benign. In December of 2007 I had a total hysterectomy to include a bilateral oopherectomy. I have been on hormone replacement therapy since and all hormone levels are normal. My health though has continued to deteriorate.
Avatar m tn Iv had Bell's palsy on left side for past 4 years this past Saturday I got it on left side it's frustrating what to do please
Avatar m tn Bell's Palsy can be caused by trauma and it can also have a delayed presentation after the trauma, although usually not after a 2 month time frame and IF you didn't additionally sustain head and or a facial injury during the dog attack, a condition like Bell's Palsy is very unlikely to have been caused by the type of trauma injury you are saying happened during the dog attack... "What causes Bell's Palsy?
Avatar m tn Oral hsv1 is linked to Bell's Palsy, not genital. Herpes infects nerve groups, so if you have genital herpes, it doesn't affect your face, and vice versa. There are other causes of Bell's Palsy, though, like Lyme Disease and Epstein-Barr, which causes mono. Yes, hsv1 is the cause for a large number of cases, but it's not the only one. The other thing to note is that the IgG test can miss 30% of hsv1 infections.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have had bell's palsy more then 10 times in the last 2 years. Had a mri done and two small spots showed up in the white matter of my brain. I had a lumbar puncture done, still waiting on the results. Could many bell's palsy attacks be a sign for ms? If not what could be causing so many attacks?
Avatar n tn Hi I was wondering if you ever received any answers and if you feel better now. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in October 2019 and got Bell's Palsy end of February 2020. It's now July and I still have the Bell's Palsy. Just wondering if you have any answers you can share. Thank you.
410281 tn?1254229064 My understanding is that true Bell's Palsy is caused by a peripheral nerve problem. But the root of the cranial nerve (is it VII?) is in the brain, and therefore a lesion in this region (maybe the pons?) could cause a CNS version of Bell's Palsy. A close friend of mine has had Bell's Palsy 3 times in 10 years. The doctors can find no obvious cause for her repeated Bell's Palsy, but she has permanent nerv damage on her face.
Avatar n tn Dear Ewat, Whenever someone has paralysis or weakness in their facial movement, the first thing is to rule out the possiblity of stroke. While stroke is more common in older folks, it can happen in the young, particularly if they are smokers or are on the birth control pill. Usually, however, the symptoms of stroke occur suddenly and you say that your symptoms have been present for as long as you can remember, so it is likely that something else is causing your symptoms.
Avatar n tn Contracted Bell's Palsy Oct. 2017 after Flu Vaccine Sept 26th approx. 3weeks before taken to Emergency for fear of having a Stroke. Bell's Palsy was determined to be cause of sagging face/lips. I am currently seeking as much info and as many people that have been affected after a Flu Vaccination. Seems to be a rare phenomena but there was conclusive evidence in 2000-2001 with Berna Bio-Tech's Nasal Flu that was recalled due to Bell's Palsy complaints.
Avatar f tn on tuesday i was admited in the hospital the said had a condition call bell's palsy when i return home look it up and i read one reason i could have gotten that is that if iam pregnant is that true i have not taken a test yet cause i scared i will be disappointed if it is negative but i keep looking for symtoms like the red line you get on your belly but have none.
Avatar m tn Hi, I,m new on here and basically , I have Bell's palsy about a month or more now. I struggled to tape my eye shut and last week , I had to go eye clinic , to get my eye checked out, they gave me antibiotics, and call back in a few days , I called back and they said I had an ulcer , they also stitched my eye partially shut as I can't close fully with Bell's palsy, so I was told to keep taking antibiotic Chloromycetin 4 times a day, lacri lube 6 times and at night .
