Bone deposits can build up due to altered mechanics in how your walk, sit, stand, etc. after an injury. The old song, "the hip bone's connected to the knee bone" has more than a little truth to it! A foot injury, for example, makes you limp. This puts stress on the adjacent joints, so eventually your knees, hips and back start to hurt, too.

Prednisone helps in the short-term but causes too much damage for long term consideration. The trouble is you believe you are damaging something when you move into the area of pain. You are headed for a frozen shoulder and a walker if you don't do that. The VA isn't comfortable with these injuries.
Avatar n tn fell on ice 2 months ago and fell on left hip- had pain for about 2 weeks. Would recent thoracic injury to right side cause left side lumbar pain?

Avatar m tn My dog had a disc injury in his back Sat.23. Vet prescribed prednisone & tramadol. Can't pick him up & he can',t stand to pee or poo. Any advice? This is the worst incident yet.
Avatar f tn I am 34 years old. Have had a very few bouts (lasting no more than a day) of sciatic pain prior to the accident, which started when I was pregnant with my daughter 13 years ago. I see the chiropractor, and it goes away. I've NEVER had pain like this before. Burning, stabbing pain in my right low back, that sends stabbing, aching pain into my posterior thigh, and aching down into my calf. Also, my right anterior hip bone aches horribly.
Avatar n tn Tuck / Jaybay, Thank you for taking time out to read my post and replying. The pain reached it's peak a couple of days after I felt something when I was golfing. However the pain has not subsided since, nor has it got worse. It's been 10 days since the injury. It just won't go away!!!!! I want this to heel so I can get back out golfing. I started to double up on the OTC ibuprofen, I was told by the pharmacist today I can have up to 3200mg / day.
Avatar m tn My question is, will the pain subside enough, lets say in a day for me to be able to walk around, for example to the shops and is there anything I can do to hasten the ability to do this? Or is there a more serious problem of which I am unaware of?
Avatar n tn Your cat going to the bathroom on herself, could be a sign of brain injury. Also look for uneven pupils, unsteady gait (walking like a drunk), personality changes, etc. These are signs of brain injury. If you get your cat to the vet quickly enough, they can prescribe prednisone-a steroid that can cut down the swelling that occurs in the brain. Please, take the cat to the vet. Good luck!

461838 tn?1255790216 My regular dr prescribed a 12 day taper of prednisone to treat a shoulder injury, acturally it feels like my whole left upper back, chest and neck got it too. Avatar m tn I recently injured my lower back moving boxes in our garage and was seen by a doctor who prscribed prednisone and zanaflex to treat an accute muscle spasm. My lower back is getting better but today I started experiencing pain in my neck. Barely touching the skin causes me pain. It's almost like pushing on a fresh bruise. I brushed it off as I do most medical concerns and took a zanaflex and a nap. Upon waking I realized that my face is beginning to become sensitve to touch as well.
Avatar n tn could this be related to the high dose of Prednisone he was on? Also, during physical therapy for this shoulder injury the therapist taped his shoulder...upon removal of the tape entire sections of his skin were removed. Allergist believes he is sensitive to adhesive in tape..never has been before. Are all these incidences related? Should he be seen by a particular specialist? Could this be indicative of an autoimmune disease?
518247 tn?1212194254 I am thinking a cortisteriod for inflamation possibly ? If it is a head injury? We do a lot of ER first aide, first response, our county has NO humane society nor animal control and vets are few and far away as well. So we are out the mercy of our own first aide often. Can you help. ??? Please do if you can, or ask us more questions, we really would like to treat (if we can) and save this rabbit. (I have an Rx of prednisone.) Any other advice would be most appreciated. Thank You...
Avatar n tn Some of my questions are---how much risk am I at while waiting for these appointments?----can I expect to get any of my lung function back?----how long will I have to be on prednisone, it is playing havoc with my blood glucose levels and I am not diabetic ( yet )?---I cant even consider giong back to work in my present condition so I have some serious financial concerns, is there any help out there for me?
Avatar n tn Steroids reduce inflammation big-time. If you have a back injury, for example, and wind up in the ER, lots of times they'll give steroids if the spinal cord is in jeopardy of damage by swollen and inflammed tissues nearby it. Same thing with nerves that come out from the spinal cord and are located just beyond the spine, if it swells up in there, it can pinch nerves and make them hurt or lose function.
Avatar f tn I have had tinnitus and vertigo for many years. 7 years ago I was put on prednisone for myalgia pain. My pain went away but it had no affect on my hearing. It did affect my belly....it bloated out like a pregnant woman...lol...I got off prednisone back in january of this year. If you can avoid it then avoid it. If you need it for other reasons and not for hearing then I guess you have to continue taking it until it does not good for you.
Avatar f tn My husband developed a deep bruise on his left shin about a month ago. It seemed to heal, though some soreness remained. Last week, a lesion of sorts appeared on that leg after a couple of days of itching. The spot continued to grow and there was little relief of itching with cortisone creams, etc. He saw a doctor on Tuesday who said possible vasculitis, but couldn't be sure. Prescribed a steroid cream and compression socks.
