hi just a question about steroid use. I dont have MS but was recently diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis after having a brain biopsy 3 weeks ago. Several months ago I was on IVIG which really didn't help my symptoms, so now I'm going to try a trial of prednisone. My neurologist wants to start me on 60mg then slowly taper my dosage. I'm so nervous because I've been reading all the side effects to this large of a dose.

I started Prednisone yesterday 200 mg for 5 days and then it tapers down from there (can't remember off the top of my head right now) I think for 15 days. The vet put her on 5 days of Lysodren and Predninsone.The dosage of Lysodren was 500m twice daily and 1 5m of Predninsone On the 6th day she started panting,anxiety,hypertension,urinating,weak could not walk. I had severe sinus problems and only Prednisone helped. It is not recommended to use Prednisone while on Tx but if you do according with doc instructions it is ok. Based on my experience I would not use Saline water during Tx because it dehydrate and this is the opoosite of what you need on Tx. He probably will increase your dosage but never do this on your own, follow his instructions. They normally will start you out on a low dosage, see if it helps, and if not they either increase it or switch medications. Always work closely with your doctor on your medications. Take care.

This made a huge difference but, once the prednisone wore off the rash back full force. I returned to my doctor and was prescribed Prednisone for longer and a higher yet decreasing dosage over 7 days. Sure enough, the rash dried out and healed, itching subsided until about 2 days after finishing the course of Predisone. Now, im itching again and the rash is returning! it's like if I'm off Prednisone it will come back but, i cant keep taking prednisone over and over. What's going on?
