Avatar m tn My dog jumped up on the counter and got my other dogs Med bottle and ate all the pills and chewed the bottle before I saw you. Will this hurt her?mit was a very low dosage of prednisone about 7 days worth.
Avatar f tn t give info on giving meds to animal that it is not prescribed for so, your vet may be able to give the advice if he/she has seen the other dog. Does your other dog have any health conditions that you know of? How old is it?
Avatar n tn How is your dog now Is he taking it for heartworms too?
Avatar m tn Our dog Lilly has lymphoma and has been on prednisone for the last few months. She now has iatrogenic Cushing's and it is getting really bad. He can barely use her hind legs. We cut her Prednisone in half, but I have no ide if this will work or not. I can't make her suffer... Does anyone have any success in this type of situation?
Avatar m tn what would cause a dog to consistently lose weight even though it is eating constantly, the dog has started to lose vision in both eyes (cloudy appearance to corneas) and has had problems with incontinence. The dog was recently on prednisone but was taken off due to incontinence issue. Please help.
Avatar f tn My dog was put on prednisone a week ago for low platelet count. She was diagnosed with thrombocyclopenia. They put her on two tablets of 20mg each, twice a day, and she ways 83 pounds. Today they decided to put her on another tablet so now we're up to 60mg twice a day. Her breathing seems more shallow, she's not panting, but not normal either. I am worried this is too much for her system to take. Does this seem right??
Avatar m tn I agree that your dog probably has a disc issue. My dog was on both meds but for different problems. Prednisone for Epilepsy and rymidyl for the back problem. You really need the advise of a vet before you give both meds. Also the sooner a back condition is treated the better the outcome. My mom delayed care with her wiener dog and she needed surgery. She's now permanently paralyzed because she put off the surgery. Please let us know how you dog is.
3116756 tn?1341922971 It sounds like your First week of the induction period is over, but you still need to be watchful...(Since your dog has too much prednisone/ cortisol ) It will take a while for the prednisone to get out of your dogs system, and the next dose of lysodren may do the trick. It may also reduce too much coritsol...in which case, you may end up having to give her another Prednisone....! So keep the Prednisone handy, and keep watchful for signs of lysodren overdose/ toxicity....
793908 tn?1294705109 Julie (our mini Poodle 9 yrs. old) had Cushings for quite a few years before it was confirmed in Feb. 09. She was tested 4 yrs. ago & it was negative but I never believed that. Julie started Trilostane 22.5 mg. in March. She was doing better in June with the blood test numbers & than got another attack of Pancreatitis, in 6 mos. time. She stayed at the Vets for 4 days & came home better.
Avatar f tn If your dog was 17 when he died, that is very old for a dog. The fact that he was on prednisone would not have been a factor in his death.
Avatar f tn It never ceases to amaze me how many people will give their dogs steroids (prednisone) without understanding the effects and risks. Of course your dog is hungry, that's what steroids do. I have always sought alternatives to steroids with my pets, and have ONLY used them with two dogs that were terminal with cancer. And THAT was only in their last few weeks to buy them (and me) a little more time and comfort.
Avatar f tn My vet prescribed 20 MG of Prednisone Q12H last week. Immediately my dog appeared to be having an adverse reaction.. as he was panting, nervous and shaking. I spoke with my vet and I tapered down... but he's still panting tonight and it is worrying me. Anything I can do to help him in the meantime ? As far as his diagnosis, we still aren't sure but have ruled out many other possible health conditions.
Avatar f tn But the vetenerian says the Prednisone would have taken care of that (but Prednisone can also cause panting). Also, we bought a new bed for her about a week before it happened, and the label says 'made in China', and with all the toxic stuff coming in from China, I wondered if she wasnt having a toxic reaction to the bed. She was often licking the bed also. We removed it though and she's not better.
Avatar n tn She was given steroid and antibiotic injections. Also given Baytril and Prednisone to take home and give daily. She gets Prednisone 20mg 3 times a day. She began heavy breathing on day 2 of the med and also seems to have belly bloating. Is this normal? I called my Vets office and all they said was to bring her in to get seen. But, we have already spent $1300 in one week alone on vet bills. Help!
Avatar f tn Often I can keep my patients comfortable on prednisone if I start to reduce the dosage to find the minimum effective level. Prednisone is not like antibiotics in such that they do not need to be given at a minimum dosage...resistance is not a concern. Atopic dermatitis can be proven by a veterinary dermatologist though usually a regular vet can "tentatively" diagnose it. Shampooing once a week with a medicated shampoo helps remove allergens from the skin.
Avatar m tn Hello..... my 8 yr old dog has been diagnosed with IVDD. He is recovering with medicinal treatment. He has become very active as of late and is exibiting some anxiety that may be related to the prednisone that he is on. I would like to know if I can give him some Benadryl to quiet him a bit. He is currently taking 20 mg prednisone 2x daily, 100 mg tramadol 2x daily. Can he have Benadryl without signifigant side affects ? Thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn my 9 year old dog has been on prednisone for 6 weeks for ITP and we are weaning her off now.
Avatar n tn or top of second page now if someone else has posted a new topic. Anyway, his dog had same issues but much lower platelet count...was put on prednisone and Doxycycline and is doing better. maybe look at that post and you could send him a message/note when you click on his name and ask what is going on w/ his dogs treatment and what his vet has said about length of meds etc...
2065896 tn?1373685384 We even sent to America for Benadryl and that was useless. The Vet says if she continues to use prednisone the dog will get diabetes. Unfortunately she has now the pot belly of Cushing's disease and is always hungry. Has anyone else out there got this problem or know of something we haven't tried? She is a 6yr old Lhasa Apsos.
Avatar f tn He is currently on prednisone and theophylline. For the past couple of weeks, his belly has been very distended and hard to the touch. This is making his breathing more difficult. He is slightly overweight, so I have cut down his food intake. He drinks about the same amount of water that he always did, even thought the prednisone is supposed to increase his thirst. He is releiving himself regularly. His last checkup last month the vet told me that he had a good heart.
Avatar n tn m surprised that the Vet gave your dog the steroid injection when he knew your dog was taking Rimadyl.....That should not have happened! However, your girl was feeling alittle better BECAUSE of the Steroid injection...... The Rimadyl has a wash out phase of 3 days......Then you can start the Pred. In the meantime, the Tramadol can still be safely given.....It is specifically just for pain..... Prednisone is the first line of defense for these kinds of injuries....
Avatar n tn I took my sweet three-legged dog Jazz into the Vet Friday because I couldn't get rid of his fleas (frontline wasn't working) which was causing him to constantly to scratch and get red marks on his body (from the licking and biting himself). I took him to the vet friday and they put him on steroids (prednisone --5mg/1 tab 2x's a day) and a hydroxyzine (25mg) and omega 3's. Suddenly I came home today and he can't walk.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you're totally on the problem. I might suggest trying baby aspirin for pain. You may want to ask your vet about dosage. Also beware of prednisone. It is a miracle drug and keeps my dog alive as sometimes he gets lesions on his abdomen and when he takes the prednisone they disappear. But you don't want your dog to be on prednisone any longer than you have do. My last dog, a Shih-Tzu, was on prednisone for auto-immune hemolitic anemia and developed a corneal ulcer.
