Hi. I am 33 years old and was diagnosed with AIH 12 years ago. I have been managed successfully--first with prednisone and then with imuran. My enzymes have been 'normal' for 8 years or so. However, I am hoping to get pregnant and so my Dr. slowly weaned me off the imuran and now I am on prednisone 20mg. My last dose of immuarn was tuesday--25mg (down from 100mg). Now my dr. wants me to wait 2-3 months to start trying to get pregnant!
A nurse is going to come to our home next Friday and show my husband and I how to do my avonex injections and I found out after 200.00 deductible all I will have to pay is 40.00 a month. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be! Cant wait until this weekend. We are going to have one WHOLE night alone...no kids...just the 2 of us for our anniversary. I hope it is ok to have a couple of drinks with the prednisone. Wish you all a good weekend!
My doctor put me on this for some issues I was having with my butt cheek and leg hurting all the way to my ankle. I think its my schiatic nerve, she gave me 40mg of prednisone a day for 3 days then cut it down to 20 mg a day for 4 days to wean me off it. A week and a half after coming off prednisone I had a bunch of blood work done and it came back positive for Hep C. I know prednisone can cause false positives on some test but can it cause a false positive for Hep C??
I have 2 kids, 6 and 8 months. Both have asthma. My 6 year old has allergic asthma and my 8 month old was diagnosed with enviromental asthma. I feel educated and all that I am just looking for a parent that is dealing with this too. Its hard and stressful. Baby has be hospitalized 3 times and I am distributing breathing med and nose spray daily. How do I deal with enviromental asthma with A baby? I've already done air purifiers etc...I'm just overwhelmed. Advise please!
My son has asthma, ans he is not very stable right now, he has some difficult time to breath, lat night I started treating him and during the night and this mornig, my concern is that he is traveling with his father in 2 days to France and this is a 11hr flight, my son sometimes seems okay ans all of the sudden his asthma gets worse.
please advise me in what to do.
In July 2012, taper completed and she developed rash on legs with blisters and serve itching. We canceled Ileostomy and started 10 mg Prednisone, itching continued not as serve. We visited dermatologists, Biopsy and nothing conclusive. Dr. thinks she has some other type of autoimmune disease. Until found they will not do surgery. Recommend seeing Rheumatologist.
August 10 mg Prednisone started again and she started a Gluten Free Diet. She has been on for 8 weeks, then started a 2.
My wife was diagnosed as colitis and the doc suggested using prednisone. She is now 16-week pregnency. We are worried about the effects on Kids. Does anyone have similar experience and give us some suggestion? Thanks a lot.
Hi Kyle, After a variety of delays and still no call back from the drs office, I got my own report, says I have some fatty growth behind and around my eye. But Im sure that isnt what is giving me all my problems. Ill call and request an appointment and see what the neuro says, he saw both my arms and hands shaking and such.. so Im back on the Prednisone, cant believe what a life saver that is. I feel so much better.
4 months ago I began a therapy with prednisone (25 mg per day) and one month lather I got tested for hiv 1-2, the result hopefully was negative and all my blood exams were normal (but antibodies against HBV positive, without virus). My doctors said me that hiv is not a problem for me. However i began to worry again because it was been told me that prednisone is an immunosupressant and I fear that it could hide my hiv antibodies. What do you think about? Sould I have to get another test?
I would not be concerned about someone taking prednisone having sex and passing it to their partner. Are you allergic to prednisone for why you are asking?

Abstract
The effect of exogenous prednisone on serum thyrotropin (TSH), thyroxine (T4), and triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations was investigated in four patients with non-functioning thyroid glands receiving T4 replacement therapy. Orally administered prednisone, in a dose of 20 mg each day for nine days, resulted in a significant decrease in mean serum TSH levels (p less than 0.01) without significant changes in levels of serum T4, T3, and thyroxine binding globulin (TBG).
We get many questions about the possibility of medications, and particularly steroid medications like prednisone, interfering with the accuracy of HIV tests. This is rarely a problem.
Read all the side effects of prednisone, it might be that it is related to the prednisone or prednisone is causing the water retension to be worse... just a thought.

On the way out I talked to a lady there and I told her I was bipoler and was on prednisone for joint pain. She told me that prednisone can bring on a psychotic phase in normal people and with a pre-existing condition it can be really ugly. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?
Short term low doses of Prednisone is not harmful unless you already suffer from emotional instability. If your eyesight gets blurry and/or you feel emotionally distressed while taking Prednisone contact your doctor immediately.
I have been sick and my doctor ordered me to take a regiment of medication being prednisone, doxycycline and furosemide. I have been on the prednisone for 2 weeks now and he has ordered me to take 5 mg every 8 hours (he gave me 80 pills)

My question is, how much prednisone (and for how long) do you prescribe before and after treatment. Do you recommend prednisone for everyone, or only for those with eye disease? My endo said that he thinks the risk of prednisone is greater than the risk of eye disease and doesn't want to prescribe it. I do not feel comfortable with that statement, as eye disease seems much worse to me than short term prednisone.
Then on the second visit, because my eyes were still not improving, he strongly suggested oral prednisone again and I relented, thinking it was worth a try to make my eyes better because I don't want permanent visual loss and it was implied that it would increase my chances of regaining my vision.
So I took the treatment over the last few weeks with no noticeable improvement.
But now I keep reading EVERYWHERE that it SHOULD NOT BE PRESCRIBED. And it bothers me.

In theory, potent immunosuppressive therapy might delay development of antibody and hence a positive HIV test. However, I stress "in theory": to my knowledge, no such cases have actually been reported in the medical literature. And although you took a hefty dose of prednisone, it's not all that potent compared with other immunosuppressive drugs, and only 5 days treatment is unlikely to have had any effect at all.
