Avatar m tn Thanks.
Avatar m tn High BG is also known to slow down healing, as far as taking insulin to counter BG from Prednisone it dont work for me I am currently on Prednisone and my BG whent through the roof and no matter how much insulin I take it will not come down. I increased my insulin from 50 IU a day to 100 IU durring the 8 hours after I took the pills.
Avatar n tn I recently was diagnose with autoimmune blood disorder in which the Pneumonia and the Flu vaccination triggered the disorder, now various medication was prescribed for this problem. Prednisone was one of the medication prescribed, but I've been off that med for almost 2 weeks. I was aware Prednisone making my Blood Pressure and Sugar erratic. I'm currently taking NPH insulin at 50-100 units per day.
Avatar f tn I find that now that I have been weaned off the Prednisone, approximately fifteen days now, my blood sugar readings have not returned to the normal range as prior to taking the Prednisone. I am within an acceptable weight range and exercise 45 minutes every day. I am distressed over this turn of events and am perplexed as to whether I will ever regain the good readings I previously had or now have to do something more drastic.
1448460 tn?1284694467 I was on prednisone for several months and my blood sugar was rarely below 400 which is why they put me on insulin. If you are overly concerned, speak with your doctor or diabetes consultant. Don't be passive about your health, be proactive and talk to your doctors about your concerns and fears. You are working with them as part of a team, with the goal of getting you back to healthy again. Best of luck and my prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery!
Avatar f tn As an alternative to prednisone I suggest you research the adviseability of using medical grade DSMO, a powerful anti-inflammatory. There is controversy in the conventional medical community. Only use medical grade (diluted) DSMO. 20 mg of daily prednisone is a high daily dose. In addition to elevated glucose levels adrenal atrophy and an increased liklihood of a malignancy are possibilities. In addition, you shoud be screened for an HERV-W infection.
Avatar f tn One of the major adverse effects of prednisone is insulin resistance. Once you are insulin resistant the body is in fat storage mode. Avoid foods high in sugar and with a high glycemic index/load. Your thyroid labs show subclinical hypothyroidism so this won't be helping matters.
3244521 tn?1346861134 Roughly, 6 months ago I had a severe asthma attack, went to the hospital and they put me on a 2 week taper of Prednisone. The longest and highest dosed taper I have ever taken. by the 4th day I started experiencing problems: Blurred Vision; the need to urinate often, constant dry mouth. overall uneasy feeling. Went to the Dr., he decided to get a AC1 test. which returned 422. I asked if it could be the high dosage of Prednisone he said no, that I was T2 diabetic.
596539 tn?1219978539 That means your body becomes insensitive to insulin. And according to the following study, Insulin Resistance, CAUSES LICHEN PLANUS....the rash on your hands. So what I'm thinking is that maybe if you get your blood sugar under good control, it will help the rash!!! J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2008 Apr. Insulin resistance and lichen planus in patients with HCV-infectious liver diseases.
Avatar f tn I'm with you - I HATE summer colds especially! I'm sorry you're feeling poorly. I can only speak from my own personal experience and unfortunately, I don't know that that is going to answer your question much, because as with any medication, it's effect can vary from person to person.
8221281 tn?1397570972 I am a Lupus patient who recently treated with Prednisone on top of being on a medication that is commonly associated with weight gain. One causes both causes hunger and the Prednisone causes fluid retention and changes the way insulin is used and the adrenal glands function. I'm off of it now but gained 20 pounds in less than two weeks. I have a 50 degree cervical spine curve, a 28 degree thoracic curve and an additional lumbar curve.
Avatar n tn I just took my blood glucose level and it's 121 after traveling and snacking most of the day. I don't think any of the snacks had a sugar content, i.e. Pork Skins, Cashews, and for lunch I had a Bologna/cheese sandwich with a little mayo. Nothing but water to drink. I was and am supposed to take Prednisone every day for the rest of my life. I stopped after a few months when I developed Diabetes. I think this is a case where the cure is worse than the condition.
Avatar f tn I have been on prednisone for almost 36 years now and have been told that I am border line diabetic and that the medicine gives a false glucose reading. How much does the prednisone raise or lower the glucose level? Sometimes I feel lightheaded and my glucose reading is low, like around 65, and sometimes I am shaky and the reading is high, around 215. How do I know where my "normal" is and when I should be concerned? Diabetes runs in my family - my brother and mother have it.
Avatar f tn Whether your blood sugars remain high after ceasing depends on the length of time, and dosage amount, you will be taking Prednisone. For me, Prednisone played a major a role in creating my t2 diabetes. Not saying it will happen to you. My cousins son was on Prednisone for the same duration yet is diabetes free.
Avatar n tn you can recommend fasting and oral glucose resistance test and can repeat more than one time to fully diagnosed with insulin resistance. but remember that your pcos condition can be a risk for insulin resistance onset. keep going with this diet plan, and keep exercised. always keep in touch with your gp for further assistance and lifestyle changes plan. http://www.all-about-beating-diabetes.com/insulin-resistance-treatment.
Avatar f tn He told me that he highly doubts that my body can tell the difference between 2mg and 1 mg of prednisone. My body definitely can tell the difference and his sarcasm is unwelcome. I need help! What should I do? Where should I go to find a new doctor? How should I manage these symptoms? ADDITIONAL INFO: initially put on prednisone for allergic asthma - swollen neck, restricted airway, eosinophils at 960.
Avatar m tn I would call the ER or go down to them 400 is way to high
Avatar f tn I'm having the same problem...can't delete my Crohn's/Colitis tracker despite checking, rechecking & following the instructions for deleting. (A memo comes up at the bottom of my page saying "Error on page".) Would like to see just a Bowel Habit tracker. I have chronic intermittent diarrhea & constipation. Thought the Crohn's/Colitis tracker would serve my needs but it didn't.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis in 2004, and when my anemia did not clear up after 6 months of prednisone and other meds, another colonoscopy was performed and the colitis was completely cleared up, revealing a tumor in the hepatic flexure of the colon. This turned out to be stage 3C colon cancer. While Hurricane Katrina was pummelling New Orleans, I had a partial colectome and underwent 6 months of FOLFOX 6 chemo, concurrent with 12 months of Avastin as part of a study.
Avatar f tn Can you take ibuprofen, or any antiinflammatory? Or, possibly call the prescribing doc? I had them too after solumed, even on a prednisone taper. Do you drink coffee? Sorry for the 50 questions haha.... My coffee is kicking in...
Avatar n tn No problem. If you have an appointment with your oral surgeon tomorrow I would leave those new "teeth" alone and let him take a look first. In the meantime, I would try warm salt water rinses 3-4 times a day instead of continuing to add more medications than you are already on. After checking for any drug interactions with your pharmacist, I would also consider trying 600-800 mg of ibuprofen for your discomfort.
1744910 tn?1314199685 I had 5 days of IV solumedrol -- in the hospital, given every 6 hours. I had no problems, except lack of sleep, mostly a result of the hospital noise & 6-hr intervals. I will say that my blood sugar went up several times (I'm NOT diabetic), and I got insulin injections when it happened. I was told this is not unusual with IVSM, so if you get put on it, DO ask for blood sugar (finger-stick) testing. I'm not sure how the testing is handled if you are not an inpatient.
Avatar f tn my endo told me to cut out all refined and white sugars, white breads and look up hypoglycemic numbers on everything- he thinks my low cortisol is due to high insulin/sugar intake; I guess I drink a lot of soda someone at the vitamin shoppe told me licorice root can help but I'm not sure for which type of problem, I think I am AI and have had cortisol 2.
Avatar n tn I am type 1 diabetic as well as having 2 other auto immune dissorders one being addison's disease.I am currently on Lantus,Humalog,Florinef,Prednisone and Lexapro just to name a few I get extremley moody due to my hypoglycemic attacks as well as my hyperglycemic attacks on top of the florinef and prednisone which are supposed to cause mood swings as well.
