Avatar f tn I recently had one of my dogs treated for a disc problem in her neck. She was given a decreasing dose of Prednisone to take over 10 days which helped her considerably. Now, my other dog (same size and age) is showing symptoms of the same condition. I want to try the Pred on him but I don't have any left. Instead, I have a large bottle of Prednisolone. If I gave Ruby 40 mg's of PredNISONE, would I now give 40mg of PredNISOLONE? Or would the dose be different?
Avatar m tn this concerns me, if what you mean is PREDNISONE (the canine variety of prednisolone). How long has your dog been taking prednisolone? This is a very powerful drug that should not be given long term. It can cause some severe and very damaging side-effects. Prednisolone does not cause or treat seizures, but it can create some severe symptoms and primaryt conditions that can lead to a dog having seizures.
Avatar f tn about *why* prednisolone is not being considered
Avatar m tn I have a 3 year old Dachshund/Tibetan Terrier mix. She was fine until she became a years. She started to scratch & we discovered it was fleas so we got rid of that problem and to date, no flees. Then about 2 month after she started to get some large yellow flakes on her skin & in her ear while at the same time loosing hair. My vet told me that she had mites and we need to increase the dose of worm medicine from one to two tablets (i.e Endolav 200mg).
Avatar f tn No they should not be vaccinated period. If you were to read the label on the vaccine it would state . " For use in healthy animals only" If the pet was on prednisone it would not be healthy.
17344032 tn?1455826300 He also has the royal caine gastrointestinal dry dog food. I buy the vivitonin, the prednisolone and the food from regularly from the vets, unfortunatly my dogs symptons have started to return As I have now spent the verylast of mysaving onvet fees for my Benji dog my already overstretched budget just dosent allow for the very expensive veraflox, and so my question is... Would it be safe to give my dog Flucloxacillin the human antibiotic and if so, what would the dosage be for my 7.
Avatar n tn I have 2 Pekingese that had similar problems. Both were paralyzed & could not walk. They both crawled pretty good dragging their back legs. They kept me busy trying to pick them up & carry them to where they wanted to go so they didn't scrape up the legs. I was told the one would never walk unless I rushed her into surgery right away, The cost was 2000.00 back then. I could also strap wheels to her back end so she could get around. I was also given the option of putting her down.

Avatar f tn So we will see how that goes. She was tested earlier in the year for the basic allergies like to cats, dogs, eggs etc and they all came back negative. Maybe I will have her tested again.
Avatar m tn I will give you the standard advice for vomiting. Withhold food and give water only for eight hours. If he can't even hold down water initially, then withhold water for eight hours. After he is holding down water, try chicken or beef broth. The best broth is home-made bone broth, but if you have to use canned broth, it is okay. Some dogs will drink Pedialyte or Gatorade in place of broth, which is also okay, but mine won't drink it.
Avatar m tn t seem to get a straight answer on this, I did not have anything like this before the surgery, my vision is like being under water I was told to take ketoralac as a substitute for acular as my insurance did not cover the acular, went for a second opinion and this lasik surgeon agreed with CME, and thought it was better to use prednisolone along with nevanac, so my question is this permanent or will in most cases it will get better soon I hope this is terrible to live with one eye.
Avatar n tn Corticosteroids like prednisolone are to be slowly tapered in dose and then weaned off.On sudden stoppage, there can be many side effects.I sincerely advise you to consult your doctor who has prescribed you prednisolone and then decrease the dose as advised by him.Pls do not do so on your own. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn IF SOMEONE HAD A RISK, prednisone would not effect their HIV test. YOU did not have a risk.
Avatar m tn the vet cant figure out what is causing this.Blood work shows nothing major. Was put on prednisolone 4 days ago 20mg twice a day, no more twitches but seems not like her happy self, could I cut in half and still get benefit of no twitches but my happy dog back.If anyone knows what could be causing her to almost have seizure like episodes I would love to know.
665797 tn?1225283365 My husband has suffered with cluster headaches for 12 years, he was prescribed Prednisolone in a high dose then reducing, the headaches would stop. Avatar f tn HIV COMBO test came negative after 46, 70, 124 and 138 days . I have been taking 5 mg Prednisolone daily for last one year . I have below concern 1. Prednisolone can delay antibodies? 2. These results are conclusive or need to repeat at 6 months?
Avatar n tn I had cataract surgery August 11th of this year. I was prescribed prednisolone eye drops 3 times a day for a month then twice a day for another month and once a day for a month. Everytime I stop I get severe eye pain and my doctor tells me to go back on the drops for another week and then stop. It has been a while now since my surgery, today I stopped the drops after a week and woke up with severe eye pain and senistivity to light.
2212714 tn?1342258744 My dog has chronic anal gland congestion. She has been given trimeprazine and Prenisolone for this condition. Does anyone else use this for their dog? Are you aware of what the Trimeprazine is for? Does is seem to decrease the dog's pain? The Prednisolone is given in combination with the Trimeprazine to decrease the inflamed glands. Any ideas? Well in the meantime I will take her back to the Vets as she is acting unusual again after having glands expressed.
7002065 tn?1443073614 After you posted I did look into Prednisolone so now was interested in reading your dose (down to 5mg per day, correct?) and how long have you been on Prednisolone? That 20 - 15 mg was just a few days and then the 5 mg is current... so how long have you been on this in total? It does seem that Prednisolone does cross the brain-barrier but can you verify this? Yes, it does seem safe at that low dose but I am worried every time I see any cortico(steroids)! Are you still on LDN?
Avatar n tn Short term ocasional use of prednisone in that dose should cause no problems whatsoever. You won't experience thinning of the bones on that protocol. Long term daily use of prednisone is another story entirely.
Avatar n tn now dr has advised to use steriod prednisolone for treating retinal detachment. my question is that is it safe to use steriods??
