549511 tn?1271775930 Ive been on prednisone many times too for both asthma and my back. It does help practically anything wrong in your body for sure (my perpetually stuffy/swollen inner nose is finally opened up when Im on it!) but yes it has side effects- particulary the mood swing thing.
Avatar f tn Hi there, Both these drugs hydromorphine and prednisolone can produce long term effects. Morphine can cause physical dependence, decreased libido, constipation and addiction. Long term use of Prednisolone can weaken your immune system making you prone for recurrent infections. It can cause osteoporosis, stomach ulcer, cataracts, weight gain; hirsutism etc.A drug is prescribed if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Discuss your concerns with your attending doctor.
Avatar n tn s can be gradually increased and can sometimes replace steroids, but since there is no cure for asthma, oral Prednisolone and Asthma inhalers must always be kept at hand for emergencies. Upper respiratory infections can exacerbate asthma, so constant monitoring is essential. The Chinese herbal remedies: Bu Fei and San Ao Wan are good adjuncts to asthma therapy, but should not be given without veterinary supervision.
Avatar n tn I have also been in touch with Asthma U.K regards what medication is the RIGHT medication regards Prednisolone intake. I was advised that it is best to take a large dose of Predisolone e.g. 40 – 50 mg for a few days to quickly bring the attack under control rather than a low dose that drags on and possible results in taking more Predisolone. I went to see my G.
Avatar f tn My 3 year old daughter gets bad colds with coughing and slight weezing atleast 3 or 4 times out of the year. Her doctor has always perscribed albuterol and budesonide through a nebulizer. This time around when I took her he added Singulair and Prednisolone. He hasn't actually diagnosed her with asthma but her father and uncle both have it. Could she be getting it also and what kind of test should she get to see if she has asthma. Any suggestions would really help.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm leaving in Sweden since 4 years, and my asthma get worse and worse each year, because, unfortunately for me, it's sensitive to the cold and the hygrometry. Here I take everyday a lot of medicines (SINGULAIR, SERETIDE, VENTOLINE, PREDNISOLONE, NASONEX, LORATADINE), especially Cortisone so I'm largely overweight (85 kg for 165 cm). I decided to diet 3 days ago, and i choose to follow the ATKINS program, which works really great with me.
920032 tn?1550680156 prednisolone 7.5 mg for polyartritus and asthma. at the moment i am down to 5mg but it hs taken a year to do this and i feel a lot calmer. i alternate dose between 6mg and 5mg depending on how asthma reacts. been no sign of polyartritus for years. bone density scan fine. heart and eyes seem fine but not checked out. been following dr peatfields advice with regards to supplements. had saliva tests done and they have improved but dr peatfield has retired now.
Avatar n tn i have been on prednisolone for 6 weeks and in the past 2 weeks developed very bad moon face. what is this? why does it happen? i have been reading some very scary things on the internet and want some advice. i am being tapered off it 10mg a week, could i be tapered off quicker? i was on low doses for 2 weeks then put on 50 mg for 2 weeks and 40mg for 2 weeks, because of my asthma. i really dont want to be on them anymore?
Avatar n tn I have cough variant asthma and it began very much like what you describe. Sometimes they eliminate asthma by seeing if you respond to asthma treatment. My cough improved after I started on asthma meds. The doc may also schedule you for a methacholine challenge test to verify asthma. I hope you feel better.
Avatar n tn hi there...I have been treated with prednisolone for pneumonia, was in hospital and have been recovering for 6 weeks. I was on prednisolone for 3 weeks and they did NOT taper the dosage.I have experienced horrific withdrawals and now have been given zanax for treating the extreme anxiety. It is 3 weeks since I took thelast prednisolone tablet, I am angry I was not advised to taper down the dosage and I am wondering how long I will be going through this awful period of withdrawal.

Avatar f tn Hi there! I am so sorry to read about the respiratory distress your little one is experiencing! It's so hard on the parents too, often as difficult or more difficult just because you feel so helpless at times... I would look into having your son tested for allergies since they're all related. Around 80% of rhinitis sufferers also ail from asthma. In fact, they're really cousins.
Avatar m tn I tested at 11 months and came negative. I lknow that the window period is three months but in my case, I have been taking asthma deicines (prednisolone) for the last 6- 7 years i know that this is also advised in the organ transplant patients. My question to you is do you think I still need a test. When it is conclusive for me, considering that I have been taking pednisolone for such a long time.
Avatar n tn I coughed this afternoon and i could see white spots in my eyes for around 5 minutes.Oh and at night when my asthma starts i get palpitations. Thats about all, can anyone advise me what this is? I can accept any kind of flu/sore throat but i know this is different,it's been 6 weeks now and i just want to sort it out.

Avatar f tn you should go to a university specialist in asthma and allergy. I have bad asthma also and can't exhale with resistance- my friend seems to think that it was antibiotics which destroyed my immune system?
Avatar f tn i have done salt therapies in past , many kinds of therapies like halotherapy , silinetherapy , speleotherapy , they gave me great benefit for asthma , by passing 101 days in a salt cave reduces my asthma that I was feeling that I have new lungs , that was amazing !!!!
907515 tn?1251727972 i get arthritic symptoms but each time i test for RA there is nothing there, even tho my joints are severely inflamed, swollen to twice their size, and hot to the touch... this arthritis affects all joints in my body wherever there is stress... sometimes if the swelling is not severe, i just take acetaminophen, and lots of rest... but every decade or thereabouts i get a severe crazy out of control flare up and right now i m going thru one of those...
Avatar f tn Were you on an antibiotic as well for the chest infection? The prednisolone would help your respiratory symptoms and prevent your asthma from acting up, but would not treat the actual infection. IF your doctor felt that the infection was viral, it may be that your body is still fighting it off. Since you don't have any other symptoms and would like to complete the coarse of Florisene, I would follow your doctor's advice and have the CT Scan to be sure that nothing is going on.
563594 tn?1309583132 I have been given prednisolone before when i have had chest infections due to asthma, i have never experienced any side effects with it but i suppose everyone is different. Been on them a few times, but no side effects at all.
Avatar f tn I just remembered another thing that also makes me wonder about adrenal issues's. I was put on prednisolone 25mg tablet for a serious asthma attack(1 of 2 I had with in 3mth's and the only 2 I have had in my life). While taking the tablets I started feeling normal again, and it also took another 3 mth before the effect wore off completly even thoe I only took them for 5 day's. At the time I did not know I was also dealing with tachycardia.
Avatar n tn August 2017 - I helped my parents with some heavy bags into the house, that evening I had a very sharp pain in my chest. This is when I took the Prednisolone. On this drug for 5 days, it seemed to majorly increase the pain and I had pain everyday in my chest and left arm. Day 5 after my last lot of Prednisolone - went to the hospital because of the pain and they checked me for anything heart related and couldn't find anything obviously wrong.
Avatar n tn My GP told that over the phone and said the a) continue monitoring my blood sugar levels, b) diet, c) be monitored while on prednisolone in the future (not a prob I have asthma and am often started on pred in hospital) that's what she thought caused my blood sugar levels to be elevated, but the diabetes symptoms started before taking prednisolone). and d) come back in 6 months for another fasting blood sugar test. Problem; This was over 2 weeks ago.
