Avatar m tn prescribes a continuation of prednisolone acetate 1% eye drops 4x per day, at least up until my 3- week post op appointment. The possible side effects scare me. Can I gradually taper off the frequency of these steroids as long as the eye stays clear and comfortable? I saw some recommendations on-line for lowering frequency in 2nd week to 3x per day and 2x per day in 3rd week.
Avatar f tn Why are you on steroid eye drops? They have lots of potential side effects if used chronically.
Avatar m tn Has anyone been prescribed Nevanac eye drops for post Vitrectomy/ERM peel surgery ? I was prescribed to take this for 3 months (didn't even have the surgery yet) but the online medical information on it says not to take it for more than 14 days or there could be serious side effects. I'm not big on "blind faith" with what any Doctor just says, especially when it contradicts the warnings to this extreme.
Avatar m tn My GP then prescribed Predsol (Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate) drops - one drop three times daily for five days. The list of side effects looks quite scary and so far I havn't used them. The side effects include: "Glaucoma, blurred vision or problems with sight, enlarged pupils, drooping of the upper eyelid, thinning of the cornea or sclera which can lead to perforation.
Avatar n tn My eye surgeon prescribed prednisolone and Nevanac (brand name) drops after my cateract surgery. Prednisolone is a corticosteroid, and Nevenac is an NSAID (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug -- I like to think of it as "ibuprofin for the eyes"). Both are quite commonly used after surgical procedures, and both address the redness and inflammation that can occur after surgery. I'm sure Dr. Vosoghi will comment further as to side effects.
Avatar n tn I doubt the drops would cause it. Dr. O.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if glaucoma will resolve on its own if prednisolone eye drops are discontinued? (My glaucoma is steroid-induced.) Thank you..
Avatar m tn i may have taken ofloxacin and prednisolone eye drops in my eye 5 times in a day instead of the 4 times like i was supposed to do.will it cause any harm?
Avatar n tn My eye doctor sent me to a cornea specialist and after an exam he asked me to keep taking the acyclovir tablets (1 pill - 3x a day) and prescribed Pred Forte eye drops (Prednisolone Acetate 1%) 4x a day. Reading about this stereoid, I saw that it is not to be used on infections caused by virus (eg. Herpes). What should I do????? Thank you.
Avatar m tn You seem very capable of self research. Just look up pilocarpine drops and the contraindications and side effects. In a similiar situation i would not prescribe them. Sounds like you are going to have a gonioscopy to check the 'filtering angle" I'm sure you have angle recession glaucoma. Best of luck.
Avatar m tn Hi doc Me and my mother both suffer from allergic rhinitis..I get post nasal drip and she gets runny nose..both of ours symptoms get resolved if we take antihistamine like cetrizine + montelukast. But if we take fluticasone nasal spray, there is no improvement at all even after month..both of us get no relief from nasal sprays...even tried metaspray (mometasone). What is the reason behind this?? Is it genetics? Or the corticosteroid is not getting absorbed?
Avatar f tn I had cataract surgery on my right eye 2 years ago without any side affects. I had my left eye done in February 2012 and have had nothing but problems. The doctor who did the surgery said the eye was swollen and put me on several rounds of steroid drops. When I stopped using the drops the pain returned. The doctor couldn't explain that and again wrote a prescription for the same drops.
Avatar m tn I just had eye surgery. Doctor prescribed 3 different eye drop medicines for a week. Can anyone tell me what each are for? A friend told me some were dangerous to my eye? Is this true?
Avatar m tn For the cataract surgery, it is every 2 hours!!! Eye drops, eye drops and more eye drops. Then more eye drops for the dry eye that the other drops cause. On and on. No end.
1413519 tn?1281818201 He was sent to a specialist. Treatment plan, antibiotic drops, steroid drops, as well as some type of drops to help his pupil to shrink. Although his redness has diminished, his pupil is HUGE and he has very poor vision from that eye. This is after about 2 1/2 weeks of incident and 1 week of specialist treatment plan. I tried to surf net for information with little results. Any guess of outcome would be appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed prednisolone eye drops with a tapering dose over a week or so. This seemed to take care of the issue. However, a couple of weeks later and after going off of the eye drops as prescribed, my eye flared up with the same symptoms. The doctor recommended the same treatment. The eye once again improved. 1 week after the second incident, I was nearly tapered entirely off of the eye drops. However, my top eyelid became quite swollen and painful.
Avatar f tn has tried me without the drops (pressure soared) and on other drops that didnt work or that I had side effects with so Cosopot it is. I was just curious to know if anyone else on Cosopt has experienced these side effects or if it is just me.
Avatar m tn I have Multiple Sclerosis and a side effect of this diagnostic is Intermediate Uveitis in my right eye. Over the past 3 years I have received 3 shots of cortisone in my eye as treatment. The last shot was Oct. 2009 and it did not help. I have just had an appointment with my ophthalmologist who prescribed Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension USP,. 1 drop, four times a day for 4 weeks.
1196922 tn?1265100570 Maxidex is a steroid that does not penetrate as well as prednisolone. The two year old drops should be ok is stored at room temperature or better if refrigerated. I would first try the Maxidex for a few days and if have discomfort or pain add the homatropine. You should not continue the drops for more than three weeks due to the risk of glaucoma and cataracts. It is best to see the ophthalmologist. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn I was recently put on prednisolone eye drops after having cataract surgery. Has anyone ever taken these eye drops and had severe abdominal bloating.i fee like it happened over night. It’s so uncomfortable.
1108194 tn?1378424522 She is also on Glaucoma eye drops. She is experiencing extreme fatigue and she said her thoughts/memory seem fuzzy. How long do these side effects last? My mother is a small person who doesn't take any other medications except for the eyes. She works out everyday. She isn't up to that either. Does she have to get these every 4 weeks or can they space them out more or lesser dose?
Avatar n tn I went to the eye doctor and he examine the eye and stated that I had episcleritis. The first two weeks I was put on anti-inflammatory drops, which did not help. This past week I was put on Prednisolone and over the counter ibuprofen and it has help tremendously. However, I still have just a little redness. Should I be worried?
