Avatar n tn Currently he is on 2ml Phenobarb twice/day and 5mg Prednisolone once/day. My vet refuses to let me go up with the Pred. I argue that since his time may be coming to an end why not go with 5mg Pred twice/day, but the vet does not budge. I also think that the Pheno is on the low end for a 10 pound cat with the amount of seizures he is having. Opinions please!
Avatar m tn Our research has found that high doses of Propofol used in critically ill patients in combination with glucocorticoids (Prednisolone) can cause the syndrome. We gave Prednisolone twice daily for a week before the Propofol was administered. So we are also curious what a normal dosage range of Propofol is for a 5.5lb cat? This was administered because they had to thoroughly inspect the mouth area and she did not want that to happen. It is squeamous cell carcinoma being treated.
Avatar f tn Try avocado soybean unsaponifiables formulated specifically for cats. (They also make them for humans.) I don't have any particular recommendation for a brand, but one is called Dasuquin. Ask your vet about this approach.
Avatar m tn You should really phone and consult with your Vet abt this...and be sure!!! I don't know the weight of your kitty? for a 11 lb. cat..(6kg) for instance the dosage can be 1 mg per kg. therefore up to 6mgs. but of course all that depends on what the treatment is for and health of your kitty. what are you treating???? please consult with your Vet... http://www.drugs.com/vet/prednisolone-5-mg-tablets-can.
Avatar f tn Prednisone is activated by enzymes in the liver to turn into prednisolone. They do have similar uses but prednisolone is more readily absorbed by the body. Prednisolone is usually used when there is liver toxicity or liver failure involved. There is no great difference between them, other than the above, however ... it is normal practice to begin at a low dosage, rising to a level that's appropriate for the weight of the dog.
Avatar m tn Hi i took 30mg of prednisolone for 2 days. how long will the medication be out of my system?
1580703 tn?1651904887 The treatment went well and after a while she decided to lower the dosage step by step, it took 2 years for me to walk normally again (July-August 2009), during that time the dosage for prednisolone was 1 per a week. unfortunately the stiffness and swelling on my left ankle came back about 1 year ago and then again the doctors decided to increase the dosage of prednisolone (half 5mg pill 3times a day),and also add Methotrexate to my old prescription.
Avatar m tn Few years back, when my mom was washing toilet with acid.. she felt some irritation.. suddenly her one of the eye got reddish.. she went for treatment, and after some days, the eye came back to normal. But now, the same got reddish again, after multiple check up with the eye doctor, she prescribed "Prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension USP" and she used for a week.. now her eyes are 70% ok.
Avatar m tn i may have taken ofloxacin and prednisolone eye drops in my eye 5 times in a day instead of the 4 times like i was supposed to do.will it cause any harm?
Avatar f tn About 4 weeks ago I got a red itchy rash on my chest. The skin is red with what looks like ives or small bumps. I have used Eurax cream and Bach Rescue cream and Zertec. My doctor prescribed steroids "prednisolone 5MG which I have been on for 6 days now with no improvement. I have attached a photo of the affected area in my profile .
Avatar f tn I have not noticed any sores and I have checked for fleas and applied Advantage 10 days ago just in case he had them. I have 5 other cats (I know that is a lot!!) and none of them are displaying any of these symptoms - Thanks!
Avatar f tn He said it is usually a behavioral issue and not always infection ( for cats) i treated her as i was instructed until i saw that her issues began again. I sent out a sample and culture to a lab and she had infection. E-coli, high amylase, blood, wbc's and her microalbuminuria was > 90. her t4 for 2.7 but her free t4 was very high. he suggested putting her on methimazole, pred and cephalexin suspension. so i did. she was on ceph for almost a month, pred almost everyday and methimazole.
Avatar f tn My 3 year old daughter gets bad colds with coughing and slight weezing atleast 3 or 4 times out of the year. Her doctor has always perscribed albuterol and budesonide through a nebulizer. This time around when I took her he added Singulair and Prednisolone. He hasn't actually diagnosed her with asthma but her father and uncle both have it. Could she be getting it also and what kind of test should she get to see if she has asthma. Any suggestions would really help.
Avatar n tn Also, for prednisolone and prednisone, the doctor doesn't just"advise" you to taper.
Avatar n tn This can be very helpful. Some cats have very good improvement with vitamin b12 injections. A general blood panel to look at liver enzymes, white blood cell counts, electrolytes, etc should also be done as well as Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus testing if your cat has not had this done. A diet trial with a hypoallergenic diet can help determine if food allergy is a contributing factor.
Avatar m tn The prednisone did not seem effective, so we switched to prednisolone. In any case, for about 2 months Hudson was on a very high dosage of these anti-inflammatories. He developed diabetes and pancreatitis and had to be hospitalized for 10 days!
Avatar m tn It was prescribed for me after cataract surgery along with prednisolone (a corticosteroid). My dosage of both was 4x per day for the first postoperative week, 3x per day for the second, 2x per day for the third, and once a day at bedtime for the fourth week. Since Nevanac is an NSAID, I think of it as "ibuprofin for the eyes". I had no difficulties with it.
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed prednisolone eye drops with a tapering dose over a week or so. This seemed to take care of the issue. However, a couple of weeks later and after going off of the eye drops as prescribed, my eye flared up with the same symptoms. The doctor recommended the same treatment. The eye once again improved. 1 week after the second incident, I was nearly tapered entirely off of the eye drops. However, my top eyelid became quite swollen and painful.
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
443004 tn?1205266624 I had a cat that had IBS her whole life, and the poor thing was just miserable without her meds (prednisolone injections and occasional antibiotics). Nutrical is excellent for putting weight on cats that are in health crises. Most of them just love the taste of it, as well, so much so that they will lick it right out of the tube. It's sold in most vets' offices, however it's also available at places like PetSmart, and it's considerably cheaper at PetSmart.
17344032 tn?1455826300 He also has the royal caine gastrointestinal dry dog food. I buy the vivitonin, the prednisolone and the food from regularly from the vets, unfortunatly my dogs symptons have started to return As I have now spent the verylast of mysaving onvet fees for my Benji dog my already overstretched budget just dosent allow for the very expensive veraflox, and so my question is... Would it be safe to give my dog Flucloxacillin the human antibiotic and if so, what would the dosage be for my 7.
776872 tn?1247938680 So i was diagnosed yesterday with crohns disease in the small intestine, they have put me onto prednisolone tablets. The tablets are 5mg each but i have to take 30mg a day. I toke them yesterday and today everytime i've been toilet it has still been diaahrea but i don't expect this to get back to 'normal' for atleast a week anyways. i have also been put on calichew d3 which is calcium and vitamin D. Have you been on prednisolone if so.has it worked did you have side effects.
Avatar n tn Two years ago, I contracted a bug (virus or bacteria) at age 49. Up until then, I had no history of asthma, allergies, or significant illness. I've always been an athlete running 4-6 miles everyday. The illness (what initially appeared to be a cold with dry cough) turned into pneumonia or severe bronchitis. I almost died on several occasions from mucous plugs. Initial diagnosis by the hospital doctor was asthma (intrinsic). Allergy tests were negative.
Avatar m tn prescribes a continuation of prednisolone acetate 1% eye drops 4x per day, at least up until my 3- week post op appointment. The possible side effects scare me. Can I gradually taper off the frequency of these steroids as long as the eye stays clear and comfortable? I saw some recommendations on-line for lowering frequency in 2nd week to 3x per day and 2x per day in 3rd week.
72351 tn?1281992542 I have 4 cats ages 3 and 4 years old. 8 months ago, one came down with inflamed gums/tongue and the rest soon followed. The first one has never been outdoors. All 4 of the cats mothers were tested for FIV shortly after giving birth to them when I went to have them spayed, and the tests returned negative. I tried using Amoxicillan to no avail on them. I wrote in to you and you suggested to try Clindamycin or another drug. I took two of them into the vet to get the Clindamycin.
5584541 tn?1371137015 anyone took metformin and prednisolone to help prevent them miscarrying.....I have been on it since trying to conceive now I am 9 weeks pregnant but my doc says he will take me off them at 12 weeks....I had 2 miscarriages both at 7 weeks so I was wondering if anyone else was on it and came off and had a successful pregnancy....
683476 tn?1226752773 It is extremely common for cats to get aural hematoma's over and over again if the inciting problem is not controlled. Inciting problems can be food or environmental allergies causing susceptibility to yeast or bacterial ear infections, ear mites, and less commonly, ear foreign bodies. If the inciting cause cannot be determined it would be best to stop the itching and pain using Prednisolone or other steroids antihistamines, topical ear medication.
