Avatar f tn Hello my son is 8 and came home from school on Tuesday with hives all over his torso. I took him to pharmisit and they said to use piriton which I did, the hives disappeared then in morning he woke up absolutely covered in hives I've since been to Drs and they've prescribed prednisolone but were on day 2 of a 4 day course and the hives still there and getting more. Should I go back to Dr??
Avatar n tn Hives can also be related to prednisolone. Hives have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. However others may be triggered by viral infections or medications. Are you having any other symptom or sign?
Avatar m tn ve seen a dermatologist here in Thailand and he prescribed Telfast 180mg (antihistamine), Clobet milk 0.05% (clobetasol) and Prednisolone 5mg. When I only took the antihistamine and clobetasol the symptoms did not change much (not worse or better really). Then when I took Prednisolone the first time I felt immediately better but then a few days after finishing it the symptoms slowly started to return.
Avatar f tn I have taken antihistamin(first, second generation H1 blocker, also H2 blocker), mast cell cell stabilizer(monokast) which are not responding to the hives . I have started taking glucocorticoid(prednisolone, deflacort) which are doing good. I have not found any trigger for this hives, which appear everyday and go away after taking steroid.
Avatar f tn The dermatologist ran a full blood panel and discovered that my TSH was 12 and that the hives may be a result. The endocrinologist somewhat agreed and begin treatment with levothyroxine. My dosage was increased to .125 during my pregnancy, however after my daughter was born in Feb. 2010, I stopped the thryroid medication. Now, 4 months later, the hives are back and they are worse than ever! Nothing works, benadryl, Zyrtec, Tagamet... nothing.
446896 tn?1237802742 This is well known for all the ractions you say in your Post, they could have warned you, if you go to the search Engine and put it in,then side effects it will tell you, I was offered it for Hives a week ago and did some reasearch I still have the Hives but I an glad I did not take Prednisone, THey should tell you to come off it slowly but I guess as it has been tapered off you will be okay, can you ask them if you will have withdrawal.Good Luck, in future look these drugs up.
Avatar n tn This evening we returned to the hospital, and they gave her the same antihistimine and steroid IV. Tonight, the hives are still moving around and the itching is terrible. Her voice is raspy, but no breathing problems. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Avatar m tn Hello, If it was a fungal infection then it would not have benefitted from prednisolone. It is a steroid and may worsen the condition if it was a fungal infection. Hives is an important possibility and for confirming the diagnosis please get it evaluated from a dermatologist. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I would get a tingling burning sensation and then..wham! they were there. Be very careful and watch your son as each bout of hives is worst than the previous one. I ended up on day 2 in hospital with my bottom lip swelling and finding it hard to breath (anaphalxix) and was given Adrenalin (not very nice). I now have an Epi-Pen (adrenaline) that I carry around with me because I have been told that this sort of allergic reaction can kill you. I still dont know what caused the hives......
Avatar n tn Suddenly red bumps appear on hands and feet and skin has intense itching. Some times I have swolen lips. Could it be Hives? This problem appears during night time only. Taking Zyrtec provides relief, should I continue to take Zyrtec. Also it is now two weeks I missed my period. Though pregancy tests are negative should I continue to take Zyrtec. Would that affect my health if I am pregnant.
Avatar f tn Hives reared its ugly head again y/day and Immunologist seems to think it may be Graves antibodys doing it or may be another autoimmune disease. But this time...I took the Zyrtek like he said (boy, it made me sleep!) and hives are now going. This attack wasnt no way as severe as the last one but think because I stopped it in time with the Zyrtek. Immunologists said the BEST antihistamine was Zyrtek...seems he was right.
1867791 tn?1320155874 i went to a doctor on sunday, and was given some benadryl, and prednisolone. ive been using the medication the way i was told, and ive also been using a 2.5% hydrocortisone itch lotion, and nothing is stopping the itching or making the rash go away. actually, in the past 2 days, it's gotten progressively worse, almost completely covering the surface of my neck, and almost half of my face. the only thing that seems to help at all is the use of cold compresses on the affected areas.
Avatar f tn I have been taking prednisolone on off for years for sinusitis/allergies and have read some people have started taking methotrexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Does anyone know if this would also work for chronic sinusitis conditions?
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar n tn My husband spent 6 hrs in ER last night no one knows what is going on he is now covered in hives that itch Horriblely and his heals hurt so bad he cant walk on the, his hand is swelling as well as his foot. They gave him a depo medrol meds to take for 6 days and benadryl....ANYONE heard of anything like this? We havent changed anything same soap, food, no new meds..etc...
Avatar f tn In this case the best mode of action is to give a short burst with a moderate dosage (e.g., prednisolone 1 mg/kg/day), and then try to taper the dose of steroid as antihistamines are introduced. http://www.allergyweb.com/Articles/chronicurticaria_md.asp Lastly, immunotherapy can be tried. Pls consult an immunologist for the exact diagnosis and treatment as an allergy specialist/immunologist can only handle such kinds of cases.
Avatar n tn They are intensely itchy and they come and go. So, the rash is not typical of hives, although it is itchy and shows variation in occurrence. Another possibility is an infection caused by a mite Sarcoptesscabiei, it burrows in the skin folds of hands and feet and causes intense itching mostly at night. This is also contagious.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for Cedar ... ? My daughter got hives all over her body and red/itching last year when we unknowingly used Cedar Mulch in the yard!
Avatar n tn Prednisolone was for heat rash and my itchy dots. Today I reduce to 10mg a day and tomorrow 10mg and next 5mg and that's it. I've been taking Prednisolone for 3 and half days so far. The main problem at the moment is just the burning face and neck, specially cheeks just under my eyes and under the chin. The burning once goes from one cheek to another or to the neck or everywhere at the same time. Is it normal in such cases? Thank you.
Avatar f tn She also had more of them on her legs and the ones behind her knee were black. By Monday night, she had what looked like hives on her wrists, palms, and soles, in addition to the other rash. She couldn't sleep because every five minutes she would wake up screaming, kicking her feet off of each other. In the ER, I was told she had contact dermatitis and was given a script for prednisolone 5mg. She received her first dose in the ER hand was fine.
369994 tn?1225733799 ve taken 3 doses so far and it seems as if it works for a little bit but last night before bed, my hives were RED again and itching same as this morning they are itching like crazy. Should the prednisone be working by now? Or am I just being inpatient? Thanks all!!!!
Avatar f tn I remember gardening a few years back, before I was dx, and I was weeding and the next thing I knew I had hives all on my arms and legs. This time was wierd though, cuz I couldn't think of anything I did differently, but it was probably something I wouldn;t think twice about that did it. Anyway the good news, I've been 2 days Hive Free!! Yeah! Redheadaussie, hope yours goes away quick! Mine lasted exactly 2 weeks. TamraW, thanks for the site.
Avatar f tn Morphine can cause physical dependence, decreased libido, constipation and addiction. Long term use of Prednisolone can weaken your immune system making you prone for recurrent infections. It can cause osteoporosis, stomach ulcer, cataracts, weight gain; hirsutism etc.A drug is prescribed if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Discuss your concerns with your attending doctor. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn HIV COMBO test came negative after 46, 70, 124 and 138 days . I have been taking 5 mg Prednisolone daily for last one year . I have below concern 1. Prednisolone can delay antibodies? 2. These results are conclusive or need to repeat at 6 months?
