Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar m tn Is it safe to take Levothyroxine at the same time as Pravastatin? Also, 2 months ago, I started to take my Levothyroxine at bedtime instead of in the morning as it is more convenient. and after a recent bloodtest my GP has reduced my Thyroxine to 75mcg instead of 100mcg. Could taking it at bedtime be the reason for this reduction? I will obviously ask my GP about this on my next visit to the surgery but would be grateful for any advice.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Pravastatin 40mg 15 years ago following a minor heart attack. For at least 5 years I was treated for Goat problems even though I was not having the usual swellings associated with the illness. During the past 3 or 4 years started with Cramp like problems both in my feet, ankles and legs which was getting progressively worse. I mentioned it to various GP's without help until about 3 or 4 months ago when finally one doctor asked "Was I on Statins?
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
3867523 tn?1348949685 I've heard several places that a fiber supplement is helpful to control the diarrhea discomfort from incivek. I've also heard to make sure that you use a water-soluble one, but none of them say water soluble. They say soluble fiber supplement. Are all of these water soluble. I don't want to take something that will absorb my incivek.
Avatar m tn The traditional herb tea is water extract, either an infusion or a decoction, that easily extracts the water soluble constituents in the plant. However, a combination of water and alcohol has the advantage of dissolving both water soluble and insoluble constituents, and is usually the form used by medical herbalists.
Avatar m tn Hi, so when you say 'loads of fiber', what are you eating? Do you know too much soluble fiber will CAUSE constipation? https://www.webmd.com/diet/features/insoluble-soluble-fiber Not all fiber is the same. Things like oatmeal, beans, apples are soluble fiber. Also, found in supplements. Another reason is that although we have the right amount of fiber, we aren't doing the other things that aid in normal BM's. This includes proper hydration. Do you drink a lot?

Avatar n tn I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase? I welcome any speculations.

Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old, female. I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.
Avatar m tn m still trying to get a clarification. Anyway, the cardiologist put me on Amlodopine and Pravastatin. Now, on a daily basis it seems, my heart rate increases and beats at 90-115 bpm (normally in the mid 70s). At the same time, I've started on a vegetarian diet to try to lower my cholesterol. To try to make sure I get enough protein, I am using a protein drink (10-14 gr protein each). I drink 1-2 of these per day.
Avatar f tn fat soluble, such as A, D, E or K, and water soluble, including all of the B vitamins and vitamin C. Fat-soluble vitamins stay in your body, whereas water-soluble vitamins are absorbed immediately, with any excess being excreted in urine.

Avatar m tn How are medicines, in the form of pills that are not water soluble, absorbed by the body? An example is curcumin.
Avatar n tn I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
Avatar f tn Vitamin c is water soluble, so any excess you would excrete through your urine. Vitamin d is fat soluble and the excess is absorbed by your body. Too much of a fat soluble vitamin can lead to toxicity, so i would talk to the pharmacist to see what levels are safe to consume.
2075737 tn?1379447682 Folic acid is a B vitamin, so you won't hurt yourself by taking more. (It is water soluble, so can't build up in your system, unlike A for example which is fat-soluble and can build up to levels that are considered to be too much. With water-soluble vitamins, you just pee out the excess.) Therefore, if you want to take two folic acid tablets a day rather than one until you have a chance to talk to the doc, it would not harm you or the pregnancy.
684676 tn?1503186663 t seem to understand, which I have a hard time believing a MD. of any type would not know APAP, is only water soluble to 8 mg. per ML. and opiate is not water soluble , at least that is what my research has shown, I know I was throwing away huge balls of APAP filtering 250 MG. of 10/660 Hydro pills, and could get the quantification to about 20.MG. per 5 ML. although realizing some was lost during process, at least that's what it felt like compared to just ingesting whole pills.
Avatar m tn There are two types of vitamins water-soluble, and non-water-soluble. Water soluble vitamins such as Vit.B and Vit.C are not stored in the body any excess will be excreted out of the body. Non water soluble vitamins such as, A, D, E, and K are stored in the liver and fat tissue so any excess ingested could cause toxic effects. Make sure and check the max allowed amounts of any vitamins you take.
Avatar n tn Too late to help now, but Ashwagandha doesn't do anything all that profound that it would affect you that much, unless you overdosed, in case you should have seen a physician. Herbs contain two kinds of chemcials -- fat soluble, and water soluble. The water soluble leave the body quickly, the fat soluble slowly, as they're stored in fatty tissue.
Avatar n tn Some vitamins and minerals are water-soluble (vitamin C, Bs) while others are fat-soluble (lipophilic) substances. You can accumulate a good amount of vitamin A, D ,E and K in fats there making supplementation not a good option in people with proper amount of A.D.E.K. Magnesium is water-soluble and you are very likely to eliminate the extra magnesium in urine and/or fecal matters.
Avatar n tn s fat soluble, so it stores in the liver, meaning it should register fairly quickly and stay up unlike water soluble vitamins that leave the body quickly and have to be replenished more rapidly. One of the main reasons for low Vitamin D these days is we've got lifesyles that avoid sunlight and we've also been told sunlight is bad for us, but that's how the body gets Vitamin D naturally.
1806721 tn?1554333407 My doctor has put me on generic pravastatin 20mg. A few days after I started the drug, I had a fever with flu-like symptom, and when that went away in a few days, I have been having hip/knee pains and fatigue that gets worse over the course of 2 weeks. My question is: Could these symptoms be related with pravastatin? Will these symptoms go away after a while?
798555 tn?1292787551 Don't know the answer to this, maybe Gym does, but because B6 is water and not fat soluble I don't think the liver is where you're going to find most of it. The liver will deal with it a bit, because some of it must cross the blood/brain barrier, but the liver is mostly responsible for fat soluble substances. Gym, is this right?
