Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
I got my test results back and my total cholesterol went down from 165 on 40mg of simvastatin/tri-cor to 150 on 20mg of simvastatin only. However my triglycerides went from 93 to 210. Is that 210 level significant for a male? Any other natural suggestions on lowering this? Should I take more fish oil?
My triglycerides were still at 925 last month. At one point 2 years ago they were over 2100. In my case it's a genetic thing. 2 of my brothers have the same problem. I now take my meds which are Tricor and Pravastatin. But in addition to those I take 500mg of Niacin in the morning and again in the evening. He needs to get that number down because I have had multiple heart attacks from the plaque in my blood. And that comes from the high levels of triglycerides in the blood.
Total Chol about 120 or lower
Triglycerides about 115 or lower
HDL fairly steady at about 35. has always been low.
Last monday TG rose to 204 and HDL dropped to 29.
Total Chol was 115 and LDL direct was 55.
My change was dropping lisinopril due to a couch and increasing Coreg from 3.125 mg 2x/d to 6.25 mg 2x/d
this has shifted my cardiac disease risk in the wrong direction.
Does it make sense that the lipid change is due to coreg dose this small?

BP is 120/68, resting pulse =55, total cholesterol 181 (40 mg of pravastatin nightly); HDL 55 (ratio is 3.3), Triglycerides - 79mg/dl, and ldl 110 mg/dl
I ride my bike 3x/week about 75-100 miles/week. No family history with parents, but grandfather died in 1964 of heart attack at age 65 (most likely no medications on board for him). Had a stress test about 3 years ago that was uneventful.
This weekend I went on a 110 mile ride - 2 days. First day 55 miles and slept in tent.

I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase? I welcome any speculations.

m still trying to get a clarification. Anyway, the cardiologist put me on Amlodopine and Pravastatin. Now, on a daily basis it seems, my heart rate increases and beats at 90-115 bpm (normally in the mid 70s).
At the same time, I've started on a vegetarian diet to try to lower my cholesterol. To try to make sure I get enough protein, I am using a protein drink (10-14 gr protein each). I drink 1-2 of these per day.

I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
Hello Ed, and thank you for answering, I hope you are well. My blood pressure is always good because I take Lysinoprol everyday. I also take a whole aspirin & one Plavix (per doc orders) to prevent clotting. I am also taking a statin at night (Pravastatin) to keep things flowing & plauge down.
My doctor (one) said it was too risky a surgery to do because it is right by the optic nerve, I could come out blind or paralized. No thanks.
Is it safe to take Levothyroxine at the same time as Pravastatin? Also, 2 months ago, I started to take my Levothyroxine at bedtime instead of in the morning as it is more convenient. and after a recent bloodtest my GP has reduced my Thyroxine to 75mcg instead of 100mcg. Could taking it at bedtime be the reason for this reduction? I will obviously ask my GP about this on my next visit to the surgery but would be grateful for any advice.
My blood sugar level for the last 5 yrs has been 90, within in 6 months of taking this medicine my blood sugar was 125 (fasting). I was also started on pravastatin 40 mg for high cholestoral. Total cholestoral has been climbing slowly for years. Six months ago it was 232, now it 132 but my triglycerides went from a 70 to 140 and my good cholesterol went from a 52 to a 36. My liver emzines are 164. Prior to the medicine I was constantly losing hair.

The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?
I take Pravastatin, and my liver Enzymes GGT are high, but ALT and AST are in normal range, not sure why, I have heard different answers some doctors ar concern and others are not
In early September, I was prescribed a statin for the first time, 40 mg of Pravastatin, to be taken at night. After 2 weeks, I started having muscle pain/weakness in my legs but for the first time in my life had very odd heart palpatations after lying down in bed for about 10 minutes when I was first trying to sleep. My LVEF was 50% right after MI and 45% 2 months later. due for another echo in 2 months. my lipids are under control - LDL < 70 and TC < 140, with or without the 10 mg pravastatin I am prescribed as I eat mostly a quality plant based diet, low in fats and simple carbs..
My question has to do with drugs.
First time I have done a test and found that my triglycerides(Method-Enzymatic cholesterol esterase peroxide and found that the result is 527. How to reduce the same quickly.
my brother has 210 triglycerides in blood . Is it serious?. how he can reduce the level. His age is 32. Weight is 67kg.
