Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
s production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects. I also wouldn't mind getting more than a few hours of sleep per night. That said, am I taking a risk by switching statins after three decades? I haven't been able to find any significant and update research that covers this situations. Thank you.
Thanks for the post, good info. Doctor wants to put me on either tri-cor, trilipix, or antara in addition to the simvastatin. Need to call my insurance to see what co-pays would be. I've really changed my diet and without taking supplements or vitamins I don't think I would be able to do much more as far as diet. I've cut fast food to maybe once a month and I watch what I eat there, no cheese or mayo on anything. Always use wheat bread and rarely eat beef.

Lisinipril is $4/month and $10 for 90 days at WalMart and many other pharmacies that have the $4 precription plan. You pay out of pocket. Simvastatin isn't on that list, but lovastatin and pravastatin are, if your doctor feels like you could try substituting one of those. Metoprolol isn't on the $4/month plan, but atenolol is. Again, maybe your doctor would be okay with changing you from metoprolol to atenolol. It's worth talking to the doc about.

It is extremely rare and is not associated with Zocor (Sivastatin) more than any other statin. Statins are being found to be much safer than previously thought. For instance, it has been determined that statins help increase liver function in individuals with liver disease.
Your HDL and TGLs look good, however your LDL or bad cholesterol is very high. The National Cholesterol Education Panel recommends an LDL of 130 or less in individuals with no additional risks for heart disease. You should discuss your numbers with your doctor as lifestyle changes alone may not be enough to lower your LDL by itself.

This was a study of 20,536 patients in the UK with the goal to determine whether simvastatin conferred any benefits to patients with a history of coronary disease, other occlusive arterial disease, or diabetes and who had a range of cholesterol levels. Patients were followed for five years taking 40mg of simvastatin or placebo.

My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose
The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?

I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
m still trying to get a clarification. Anyway, the cardiologist put me on Amlodopine and Pravastatin. Now, on a daily basis it seems, my heart rate increases and beats at 90-115 bpm (normally in the mid 70s).
At the same time, I've started on a vegetarian diet to try to lower my cholesterol. To try to make sure I get enough protein, I am using a protein drink (10-14 gr protein each). I drink 1-2 of these per day.
Is it safe to take Levothyroxine at the same time as Pravastatin? Also, 2 months ago, I started to take my Levothyroxine at bedtime instead of in the morning as it is more convenient. and after a recent bloodtest my GP has reduced my Thyroxine to 75mcg instead of 100mcg. Could taking it at bedtime be the reason for this reduction? I will obviously ask my GP about this on my next visit to the surgery but would be grateful for any advice.
curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
