Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?

Hello I have been taking generic Crestor for about two years. It has dropped my LDL to 39-45 range and blood glucose ranges from 105-111 fasting. A1c 5.1 - 5.3. Prior to the statin I was below 100. I am not overweight, exercise consistently and eat very healthy. So the statin is the culprit. I am wondering if being stricter on carb intake and supplementing with Berberine will help? Or has anyone had better outcomes with other statins like livalo or pravastatin?

There is a palpable small mass in my left pelvic/abdominal area that is associated with the pain, although nobody knows what it is. So I think Pravastatin is safe for me - will see how it works out for me in a month and report back.

I have been on a good routine with proper diet and regular exercise and I am at the low end of my healthy weight.

I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase? I welcome any speculations.

Does anyone know if the medicine Pravastatin (for high cholesterol) can cause your sugar to go up? I had quit taking it for about 2 weeks and my sugar which is usually high came down to 90-120, when I started taking it again my sugar went back up to 180-230.

Staying on antibiotic treatment for extended periods of time is not unheard of. The unfortunate side effect of this is that your bacteria may become more tolerant/resistant to the antibiotic and you will require either stronger doses or an new medication all together...for example this is how MRSA came to be. I am certainly not saying this is what is happening with you, but needing stronger or new medicine may be something you want to keep in the back of your mind.

Generics can be nmade by any number of manufacturers, and there is no guarantee that the same manufacturer is making your tablets from one refill to the next. The reason cited for preferring brand names is usually "consistency".

Duvanta is not listed as an American drug so you can't know what it is used for. Also I don't know that India has an equivalent for the FDA so it may vary in strength and contents. The generic name for Cymbalta is Duloxetine Hydrochloride so Kitty may be getting Cymbalta but the same concern applies as listed above.

You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
