Unfortunately blood pressure meds often (maybe always) have side effects. I find even moderate levels of beta blocker give me some fatigue and some shortness of breath. I have other factors at play but will not move off your topic to bring them in.
I turn 75 in a short time and that doesn't help my fatigue problem either, I just "ain't" a young go-getter any more.
FOR ME, it did nothing as it did almost nothing for the cholesterol levels, and in fact some test for liver function was bad and I was taken off the medication and switched to another. Hopefully that does not happen with you. Besides the other statin they switched me to the co-pay was several times the expense of the pravatstatin.
If it were me I would give pravastatin a chance, but if I had the same side effects and I could not live with them, I would try something like Zetia. You could also add a fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGLs as well, very safe and no side effects. This will help lower your overall number but will not impact your LDL which is you main issue. You really need to get that under 130 with no other risk factors.
I have to assume you are on statins (cholesterol lowering medication). Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results?

I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
twice a day, Amlodipine Bensylate 5mg. once a day, Trilipix 135mg. once a day and Ibuprofen 600mg. when needed. Pravastatin Sodium 40mg. once a day and Alprazolam 1mg. twice a day. I have been to my doctor and have told him about it and he just says, its anxiety. Does anyone know what might be causing this ?? I am tired of hearing that it is anxiety ! Please help !!!!!!!!!!!

Back in 199 was put on a statin and got cramps, and pain that would radiate up the right side and across a hold the bottom of the rib cage. So they took me off that statin put me on another same thing, this went on for 11 years different ones over and over again with the same thing. at the end was told to go on this new one back in 2009 the cramps did not happen but the pain up the side and along the lower rib cage continued.
I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase?
I just saw this now, hope you are feeling well! My numbers decreased while I was on pravastatin for 2 months, I had bad side effects and took myself iff.....since then I've been off the statins and my levels are even higher than originally. Any news on you?
He stated new tests show that statins, especially prevastatin is causing some, and in my case irreversible muscle damage and waste. These side effects we are experiencing are also those of MS patients with lesion 2 expansion in spinal cord vertabrae. I will keep you posted on next Tuesday blood test. But he is good doctor, I trust him, and I see his concern on his face....stop taking it!!
Cholesterol lowering drugs have a very long list of possible side effects. One side effect I found mentioned breathing issues...
"A 53-year-old man who has a history of hypercholesterolemia with elevated triglycerides and LDL has been tried on different statins to bring down his LDL. He developed musculoskeletal pain even though his creatine kinase was normal. While on pravastatin, he developed shortness of breath, which resolved when the medication was stopped.
59 yo white male. 1 year post MI with two stents in my RCA. I am active and with high a normal BMI of 25 No problem walking a fast mile or with light exercise. My LVEF was 50% right after MI and 45% 2 months later. due for another echo in 2 months. my lipids are under control - LDL < 70 and TC < 140, with or without the 10 mg pravastatin I am prescribed as I eat mostly a quality plant based diet, low in fats and simple carbs..
My question has to do with drugs.
