I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase? I welcome any speculations.

t seem overly concerned. He said I could go off the pravastatin and see how my numbers were with diet and exercise alone. I have been on a good routine with proper diet and regular exercise and I am at the low end of my healthy weight. I have low to normal blood pressure. Anyway, searching for info on this today, I can't find anyone with such low LDL levels but the term "dangerously low" pops up for women with HDL less than 40.

FOR ME, it did nothing as it did almost nothing for the cholesterol levels, and in fact some test for liver function was bad and I was taken off the medication and switched to another. Hopefully that does not happen with you. Besides the other statin they switched me to the co-pay was several times the expense of the pravatstatin.

I was prescribed Pravastatin 40mg 15 years ago following a minor heart attack. For at least 5 years I was treated for Goat problems even though I was not having the usual swellings associated with the illness. Since cannabidiol inhibits the liver's production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. Did they check for impinged nerves? Have you seen a neurologist regarding your chronic headaches? Are they migrainous in nature, muscular or sinus? Did they do a TB test? Statin drugs frequently cause muscle cramps and you should talk to your doctor if this got worse after starting your cholesterol lowering medication, because there can be a serious condition that can develop called rhabdomyolysis.
59 yo white male. 1 year post MI with two stents in my RCA. I am active and with high a normal BMI of 25 No problem walking a fast mile or with light exercise. My LVEF was 50% right after MI and 45% 2 months later. due for another echo in 2 months. my lipids are under control - LDL < 70 and TC < 140, with or without the 10 mg pravastatin I am prescribed as I eat mostly a quality plant based diet, low in fats and simple carbs..
My question has to do with drugs.

People can have elavated readings but have little or no damage and you can have normal readings but have damage.
I have had normal liver enzyme test and a normal ultrasound and ct scan, but I still have extreme bloating. This has been going on for months now. I worry because I binge drank on a nightly basis for about an 8 year span, 3-5(sometimes more) glasses of wine and such. Should I be worried that I have liver damage that is just not showing up? I have changed my diet significantly ( no dairy or gluten) but I am still very bloated. I am sick with worry that I have caused permanent damage.
The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
