Pravastatin and high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Pravastatin and high blood pressure

pravachol

Avatar f tn Does anyone know if the medicine Pravastatin (for high cholesterol) can cause your sugar to go up? I had quit taking it for about 2 weeks and my sugar which is usually high came down to 90-120, when I started taking it again my sugar went back up to 180-230.
1688079 tn?1305854113 My guess is you had high blood pressure to go along with your high cholesterol levels which is why you are on the Pravastatin and a cadio healthy diet as well.
Avatar f tn t seem overly concerned. He said I could go off the pravastatin and see how my numbers were with diet and exercise alone. I have been on a good routine with proper diet and regular exercise and I am at the low end of my healthy weight. I have low to normal blood pressure. Anyway, searching for info on this today, I can't find anyone with such low LDL levels but the term "dangerously low" pops up for women with HDL less than 40.
Avatar n tn I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
Avatar f tn It has dropped my LDL to 39-45 range and blood glucose ranges from 105-111 fasting. A1c 5.1 - 5.3. Prior to the statin I was below 100. I am not overweight, exercise consistently and eat very healthy. So the statin is the culprit. I am wondering if being stricter on carb intake and supplementing with Berberine will help? Or has anyone had better outcomes with other statins like livalo or pravastatin?
1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.
Avatar n tn Pulse pressure is the difference in blood pressure between the systolic blood pressure and the diastolic blood pressure. Pulse pressure in healthy adults in a sitting position is about 40 mmHg. Your have a wide pulse pressure of 93mmHg.

Avatar n tn I had that. I believe it’s a combination of high blood pressure and anxiety or panic attack. My blood pressure rose up to 175/115 during my panic attackI told my doctor about it and after a few tests I had all what I have mentioned. I needed to change my diet, do relaxation breathing, walk and/or run every 2-3 days. Also keep your meal small as I have realized that anxiety made me bloated and mad my anxiety worse. It too me about 5-6 months to feel a real positive outcome.
Avatar n tn High triglycerides are often a sign of other conditions that increase the risk of heart disease and stroke as well, including obesity and the metabolic syndrome — a cluster of conditions that includes too much fat around the waist, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, high blood sugar and abnormal cholesterol levels. Most doctors recommend 3 1000 MG of fish oil per day.
Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar f tn The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.
Avatar m tn The diet I am on is helpful for Nitric oxide and for endothelial health as well as providing some level natural ACE inhibition, and platelet aggregation inhibition, and is high in natural anti-oxidants. So, what will staying on 6.25 mg coreg and 10 mg pravastatin do for me in the long run? I would like to try going back to 3 mg coreg for a bit if my echo is good and drop pravastatin all together. and then assess everything after 6 months or so.
225237 tn?1333138999 She wants you on meds because your TGL is too high, your LDL is way too high and your HDL is way too low. She has determined that medical intervention is necessary to get your numbers to a safe level. She has weighed the benefits to the risk and determined it is the best course of treatment for you. You have classic metabolic X syndrome and you need treatment.
Avatar m tn I have had high blood pressure (130/90-180/110)in which I just started taking pravastatin for, low pulse (35-55 Bpm), tightness/pressure in my head, weakness in my legs, lightheaded, dizzy, and my eyes have problems focusing and things go blurry. In fact when I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago (for these issues) my pulse never dropped below 50 and now it stays in the 35-47 Bpm range. I wake up dizzy every morning and these symptoms don't really go away. They stay with me all day.
Avatar m tn Lisinopril and Carvedilol are blood pressure medications (lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, Carvedilol is a beta blocker) and should not have any effect on your lipid profile. Both are important medications for those who have suffered a heart attack and undergone stenting. In addition to these medications, you should be on some sort of lipid medication (a "statin" such as atorvastatin, pravastatin, rosuvasatin, lovastatin, etc).
Avatar m tn I take Pravastatin, and my liver Enzymes GGT are high, but ALT and AST are in normal range, not sure why, I have heard different answers some doctors ar concern and others are not
Avatar f tn I spent the next 4 hours bleeding rectally (no stool, just lots of blood and mucus). So far today I have had occasional cramps, but no more bleeding, but I did develop a low grade fever today of 100.0 and I have noticed that my left side of my abdomen is extremely painful when I press on it. Does this sound serious or since the bleeding has now stopped, is it okay to just wait and see? Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
915119 tn?1341948989 if your blood pressure is too high it restricts the blood vessels and can stop baby from getting enough blood and oxygen. if it gets extremely high it can cause seizures. are you seeing spots or having blurred vision? I agree with bjbbeauchamp, try nor to stress! and if it goes up any more then go to L&D! its better to be safe than sorry! I have had HORRIBLE swelling in my legs for months now, but no protein in my urine until the other week.
