Avatar f tn ALSO, his oxygen level was 86! X-ray showed fluid in the lungs (congestive heart failure pending.) B-12 level was low. Doc prescribed furosemide (also Potassium Chloride since diuretic depletes KCL) and B-12 1000 mcg. He has a followup in a week. His oxy level is higher but could be because I mentioned he needed to get up out of the Lazyboy more and get some exercise so he has been a little more active and trying to breath deeper. He has always been a shallow breather.
1118724 tn?1357010591 But elevated as well as too low potassium can be bad for the heart and cause arrhythmia. Potassium chloride should not be taken with some blood pressure medications such as losartan, lisinopril, and some others. Are you on any medication? If yes, write them here and I will try to check for you if they are OK to take with potassium chloride.

Avatar n tn I've been told I should increase my electrolyte intake. I've done so but am still having problems. I'm wondering if it's because of the type of electrolytes I've been using, mainly potassium citrate and magnesium citrate. I'm mainly interested in the best electrolytes for neural and brain health and was wondering if someone could suggest me some. I'm kind of interested in magnesium chloride.
Avatar n tn what is the difference between Potassium Chloride, Potassium Nitrate and Potassium Citrate?
Avatar m tn The only thing that counts is the amount of actual (elemental) potassium you are ingesting. For instance we take 595mg tablets of potassium gluconate containing 99mg of elemental potassium. This means that if I am willing to take 20 of these cheap little pills a day to get my 2000mg (2g) of potassium that is just fine. I don’t need to buy relatively expensive potassium chloride. Is this true?
Avatar f tn Hi! Thanks for responding. I am using the OV watch and was just wondering if there is a "loop hole" in this technology. Meaning to say that just because the watch is reading the chloride activity and indicating so on the watch, could I assume I was ovulating as well. Guess I'm just tired of disappointment. This is the first month I have used the watch and it has indicated Fertile Day one-four and OV Day 1 and so on. We've been going at it!
617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.
Avatar m tn Gitelman’s syndrome is a rare inherited defect in the renal tubule of the kidneys. This defect causes the kidney to waste magnesium, sodium, potassium and chloride in the urine, instead of reabsorbing it back into the bloodstream. Urine calcium levels are lower than normal, despite normal serum values. This syndrome does not cause kidney failure nor does it cause the kidneys to function abnormally. The kidneys are normal.
Avatar f tn Ask her doctor if she has heart failure. It may not be congestive heart failure, but it certainly sounds like heart failure. Congestive is when it affects the lungs and cough a lot. Sometimes there is clear or white mucus coughed up and sometimes there is only a dry cough. Water retention in the abdomen is left side heart failure symptoms and water retention in the ankles, legs is right side heart failure symptoms. Doctors usually treat with beta blockers or ace inhibitors.
Avatar n tn IV diuretics worked and edema gone. Then potassium dropped to 2.4 and she was in for IV potassium. 2 weeks later her skipped beats are back and she says they hurt they come so fast and the edema is coming back and hard to breathe again. She is also complaining of a chest pressure (she has it with exertion) but now without exertion and she takes nitro regularly. Could there be an underlying blockage in an artery that is making this edema come/go?
Avatar m tn I wonder what blood test can check for heart failure? I mean, anything below 30%EF is basically termed as heart failure and I can't see how a blood test is going to reveal this?

I advise seeing that same MD for follow up. Increase potassium by eating potatoes, drinking orange juice, and use a multivitamin with potassium.
