4274823 tn?1388529098 There are different forms of potassium... Typically, the potassium purchased OTC is potassium iodide; the prescription potassium is potassium chloride. I'd taken OTC potassium for years and my pcp told me to stop because it wasn't "good for me", but it did help stop the cramps. I haven't figured out what wasn't good for me about it... I have to research the benefits (if and) of the potassium chloride over the potassium iodide.

Avatar f tn Thyroid conditions can contribute to muscle cramps. Are you taking an anti-thyroid medication? If so, what medication and dosage and how long have you been taking it? Magnesium and/or potassium deficiencies can also contribute. Magnesium deficiency is one of the most prevalent causes of muscle cramps and studies show that many/most of us are deficient. You can ask your doctor to order magnesium testing - you need the RBC magnesium test - for the most accurate result.
941118 tn?1312281926 try researching other soruces of magnesium. Because mg is such a reactive element it has to be bound to something. MG loves oxygen but that is a very strong bond. You'l' see MG sold this way as a supp, it's called magnesium oxide or mag ox. Because mg ox is such a strong bond it's often said that it's not very absorbable. I tend to beleive it because it makes sense. There are other forms where they bind the mg to amino acids.

Avatar f tn Hi everyone. For the past month or so I have been experiencing some weird symptoms and I'm not sure where it's stemming from. It started in late May. I am a college student and was stressed from finals, and noticed my hands and feet were tingling. I have never felt such a tingling before. I had no other symptoms at the time and it wasn't painful, just bizarre. I summed it up to stress since I am a high anxiety person and after a week it went away. Now in June I am worried.

757137 tn?1347196453 you might just try eating one banana a day. That might help both your potassium levels and your hypoglycemia, as you say both are mild problems. And you might try supporting your adrenals with adaptogens such as eleuthero and ashwaganda. For exact potassium levels, that's hard, because potassium is a nutrient one has to be careful about -- you don't want too much, don't want too little. You might look into an electrolyte supplement -- and I don't mean Gator Aid!
Avatar m tn Can I mix different forms of magnesium? Or is it better to use only one?
