Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.

Avatar f tn Hi! Thanks for responding. I am using the OV watch and was just wondering if there is a "loop hole" in this technology. Meaning to say that just because the watch is reading the chloride activity and indicating so on the watch, could I assume I was ovulating as well. Guess I'm just tired of disappointment. This is the first month I have used the watch and it has indicated Fertile Day one-four and OV Day 1 and so on. We've been going at it!
Avatar n tn she also got blood work done for signs of fatigue (showed up months before this incident) and her chloride and potassium levels were well above healthy. could this contribute to her period being late? please let me know, thanks.
1118724 tn?1357010591 But elevated as well as too low potassium can be bad for the heart and cause arrhythmia. Potassium chloride should not be taken with some blood pressure medications such as losartan, lisinopril, and some others. Are you on any medication? If yes, write them here and I will try to check for you if they are OK to take with potassium chloride.

Avatar m tn My wife and I have a low potassium diet and need to supplement with 1.5g to 2.5g per day depending on how active we are and how much milk we drink for added protein. We are getting a lot of contradictory info about potassium supplementation products. We have been told by a PA and MD that that we are wasting our time taking OTC potassium gluconate because it is not being absorbed. Online comments often repeat the same message.
Avatar n tn * Muscle cramps/aches * Fatigue, malaise and intermittent dizziness * Abnormal heart rhythms if the deficiency is not corrected (known medically as arrhythmia) Your symptoms could be due to lower than normal potassium and sodium. I advise seeing that same MD for follow up. Increase potassium by eating potatoes, drinking orange juice, and use a multivitamin with potassium.
Avatar f tn I can eat greasy foods and not get deathly sick! I take a pinch of potassium chloride daily or few times a week. I ordered potassium chloride, (FYI: different kinds of potassium) on Amazon. It is a powder formula, love it because I can’t swallow pills. (FYI: different kinds of potassium when you look to order) I ordered an 8oz bag in January 2020 for around $12.00 & has last me all year. I hope this may help someone!
Avatar m tn m wondering if you can or can not use something like Lo Salt that has potassium chloride in it along with beta blockers, and if so how much is recommended. I'm looking to substitute lo salt for some other high in potassium foods in order to cut down on my sugar content.
Avatar f tn I know how irritating the extra/missing beats can be! and unfortunately by worrying about it, you feed your heart adrenalin and that makes it 10 times worse! Avoid coffee and caffeine and add a banana per day, to your diet! banana's are high in potassium and it is good for your heart.
4031436 tn?1349148172 Long term use of DIURETICS may cause a potassium deficiency , and if combined with regular coffee and /or alcohol intake, a severe potassium deficiency is very possible. Nutrient transport through the cell membranes, blood cleansing by the kidneys depend largely on adequate availability of potassium. You may have a chronic deficiency of both sodium (NOT salt) and potassium (potassium deficiency is very common with diabetics) . Magnesium deficiency is also suspect.
Avatar n tn Mild hypokalemia could be treated with oral potassium chloride supplements and nutritional supplements like bananas, oranges, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables etc. The tachycardia at night is most likely due to anxiety and stress of an upcoming cardiologist appointment. Hope this helps. Take care.
369861 tn?1306275686 I'm a newbie here on the heart disease site and not very sure what is going on. This all started with my getting sick and going to the ER thinking that I am having a heart attack. It turned out that my potassium was very low and my glucose level was low. Prior to this ER episode, my potassium level was hovering around 3.3 for about 4 months. At the ER it was 2.6! I had been on HCT 25 mgand Diovan Hct 320/25 mg for about 2-3 years. My primary doctor took me off the HCT.

1618806 tn?1304734477 Salad binge?! I eat salads every day. LOL! But I'm highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it.

Avatar n tn Liberal use of salt substitutes that contain potassium chloride can add to the potassium load. Liberal use of these products in people with kidney disease can cause dangerously high levels of potassium to build in the bloodstream.
