Common Questions and Answers about Post knee operation exercises

operation

Avatar m tn i have recently had a knee operation to fix the cartilage. on investigating they found that my femor and knee cap was in a bad way and worn and in time i will need a knee cap replacement, however thankfully not at the present time. Iam a fit person who teaches amrtial arts. My problem is that it has been weeks since my operation but the knee is still badly swollen and sore and i am still struggling to straighten it and bend it behonf 40 degrees..
Avatar n tn I think this is to get the knee and the muscles as strong as possible before the operation, as it is really weak and there is a lot of muscle wasting due to 4 weeks of not moving it I guess. The physio was baffled as to why I wasn't given any exercises sooner.
Avatar n tn I have had extreme knee pain (to the point where I can now barely walk as it is), and I don't know what the problem is. In March 2008, I had an operation to help remove a torn miniscus, and the pain went away after physical therapy. Now it's back (been back for about 5 months), and in BOTH knees now, rather than just one. Went back to the same doctor that did the operation, and he gave me some anti-inflammatories that worked for a week then quit working.
647391 tn?1275016633 This is because of damage to the knee and missing cartilage. What is your thoughts as to someone my age having knee replacement surgery. Also, what is the quickest recovery you have seen for someone with knee replacement surgery?
Avatar m tn Hi, ‘bowing’ leads to increased load on the inner side of the knee causing further wear and tear. In this entire process, the outer side of the knee joint is virtually intact. Osteotomy is now available for patients who have not reached the last stages of arthritis. This involves realigning i.e. straightening the bowed knee the knee in such a manner that the load on the inner side of the knee is transferred to the outer side of the knee.
1140064 tn?1260918875 Hi, Fighting the flab after the C section is not easy and it may take some time before one gets a flat abdomen and thus for the same, I’ll suggest to continue doing the abdominal exercises apart from the routine exercises like the side crunches/floor exercises/pelvic exercises and using the ball. These help in making the lax abdominal walls tight. I know one needs to have a strong will power and perseverance to achieve the same but I am sure you’ll be successful. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn I had a total knee replacement on my right knee on 10/22/09. I am 44/female. I have had 8 operations on this knee prior to the TKR. I have had bad knees and ankles since I was very young. Was still very active despite this. Played ALL the sports in high school college etc. So in general understand knee pain / how tough PT is and have developed a high tollerance for pain. Had the TKR on a Thursday...left hospital on Sun....
Avatar f tn I was just given the wrong exercises and my knee complained. Within a month of being "finished" with PT I quit them. Years later I would have pt again and this one was better but still there were certain ones that my knee hated. The first physical therapist gave me knee extensions, leg curls, heel raises, and using the exercise bike.
634733 tn?1316625992 In September last year I had problems with my legs to the point of being unable to walk for a time, which ended in being referred to an orthopedic surgeon. An MRI on my knees in January this year revealed that the right knee has some reduced space, bits of bone / debris and a tear in the meniscus cartilage. This was anticipated as it has given me problems for approximately 12 years. An arthroscopy was recommended and is booked to go ahead on 1st May.
Avatar n tn all is going well, but just as i was beging to feel myself i have started coughing a wheezing, the wheezing feels more chesty and not in my throat,is this related to my operation??? should i make an appointment at the docs???
Avatar m tn I had several months of physio, stretching strengthening exercises. I have had knee, hip and back x-rays, MRI scans on my back and hip, two knee operations for mild CMP and a lateral release. I have also seen a chiropracter and had a bio-mechanical assessment (othotics req'd). Nothing was found, joint spacing etc fine except for some fraying of the cartilage on the posterior lateral aspect of my patella.
Avatar m tn I am trying not to have the operation as I have heard some good and some about knee operations.
Avatar f tn I am now being sent for bone scans of hip, groin, spine and knee. I still have the left knee pain which the orphapedic said may need an operation see what the bone scans show up. I am so worried about cancer i dont know why but i am so scared that this pain in my knee is something bad like a tumor. I have no swelling and it is tender to touch the bones on my knee. The pain is over the outside of my knee cap not the bottom its more at the top and sides. Please please someone help.
Avatar f tn Are there any restrictions or advisorys for excercise if you haven't had the operation? I havent really been following any of the list of things your not meant to do as i keep forgetting!
Avatar n tn My wife underwent a lipoma operation last Feb,08.The lipoma was below the left knee and was removed from the back. The lipoma was about 4.5inc long and 2 inc wide. She thought it was just an oversize muscle until she underwent a scan. During operation , the artery was cut and this complicated the whole operation. It took about two hours before a cardio-vascular doctor arreve and was able to sew back the operation. The firest two months was horrible. Pain relievers was given.
Avatar f tn Surgical repair for torn meniscus of L' Knee. 3 months post-op it buckled, caused tear during fall to R' Knee and meniscus was surgically repaired but has also failed, although the surgeon refuses to order an MRI to "prove" this latest injury. Pain is an issue as I am allergic to all pain meds ordered to date and take nothing for the pain levels of 9-10. Before injury both knees were healthy, minimal arthritic changes on MRI's in spite of age 58 and obesity.

Avatar m tn My father had TURP operation one and half month back. After 4 days of operation leaking problem occurred. He was saying that he don't have any kind of sense while urine comes out. After that we consulted the same doctor, he was saying that you have to wait for another 6 months for control. I am helpless. Later we have moved another doctor there he said, some nerve(something i don't know which controls the urine) has damaged at the time of operation.
Avatar m tn After a long period of pain in the back of my knee and around towards the side of the knee I finally went to get it checked. I was told that my cartilage has worn and I now have arthritis as a result. I am in pain daily with it. Most of all I am so worried about my life, as I am a teacher. I am standing most of the day and I am now fearful that I will have to quit the one thing I love doing. I was so so so shocked to hear this news. I just thought I had torn a ligament or something.
Avatar m tn ve ulnar Nerve palsy and wasting of hand muscle and doctor says I will need operation to fix it. It is painful news and says even operation will not result full recovery - ... Doctor says many reasons causing it. I believe it must be due to diabetes condition causing nerve damage and finally palsy.... I've been reading websites to see possible non-surgery alternatives. Perhaps, I'm dreaming...... Thanks .
