898849 tn?1241811271 I just heard about the recent death in Washington where the individual had a heart condition, pneumonia and swine flu. I was recently diagnosed with CHF in January, so all this is still very new to me.
Avatar n tn He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
Avatar f tn lethargy can be a sign of many illnesses not only CHF. What condition is the Vet now treating with the Sub-q fluids? just dehydration of is there some other problem? I will send you a link with more info on CHF. Avatar n tn At the ER last month, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and pneumonia based on a X-Ray, CT Scan, Pro-BNP test, and an EKG. My EKG was abnormal (enlarged heart, etc.) and my Pro-BNP test score was 4996, which from what I have seen, is very high. I was very swollen and my oxygen level was low (70%). They gave me a bunch of medications including a diuretic. All of this made sense when I looked into it, because I have EVERY symptom of CHF.
Avatar n tn Double pneumonia together with CHF and bradycardia is rough. If you have a good hospital, she'll be treated with strong antibiotics, lasix, probably a healthy dose of steroids and they should give her meds to help her heart rate, or possible put a pacer in, if it doesn't come up on its own. She is young but very sick right now. Keep a positive attitude and be there. I have seen this many times on the unit. They fixed all the ones I saw!!!!!!
437079 tn?1222438840 Infiltrates on a xray usually means that the air sacs are filled with fluid, cells, bacteria, or other substance. Pneumonia is an example , also fluid build up from CHF (congestive heart failure) can present as infiltrates from what I remember. I know that there are other reasons. What did your doc say Diva? Again keeping you in my thoughts..
Avatar f tn I was wondering if the symptoms of CHF could be something else. I have all of the symptoms except for high blood pressure, sudden weight gain and significant swelling. It will be several weeks until I can get to a doctor so I have been trying to take care of myself until then. But in reviewing the symptoms I was wondering [hoping?] that perhaps my symptoms could be something else....
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with constrictive pericarditis this week. This all started from a case of strep throat back in Feb. He was treated with anti-biotics but kept complaining of chest pain. He said it felt like pneumonia. He was told he didn't have pneumonia after 2 x-rays - then a trip to the ER resulted in a diagnosis of pneumonia. He was treated again with another antibiotic - 3 days later he had to be hospitalized - symptoms had worsened.
Avatar m tn im a 45 yrs old.ive had chf for 3 yrs. at first i was really sick with an ejection fraction of 20% ,now its at 60% my question is that if im doing so much better why is it that if i forget to take my meds i can gain 9 lbs in a 24 hr period. i know its fluid .i just dont how its possibile if my heart is working so much better thanks...
Avatar n tn I am 31yo and I have cardiomyopathy and CHF. How I found out I have this problem is I thought I had developed bronchitis or something in January of 2008 because I kept coughing and feeling the urge to cough all the time. Nothing seemed to cure the constant cough I had: not cough medicine, not cough drops--nothing. In the mornings I'd cough till I puked, and would have coughing fits so bad sometimes I'd sweat.
Avatar m tn As background, my father is quite elderly at 85, suffering for the last five years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated successfully to date by use of lasix diuretic. His typical pattern had been to gain weight and after symptoms of CHF progressed, we would either increase the lasix dosage or if that did not work then he would be hospitalized where intravenous diuretic appeared to control the episode.
Avatar n tn I have COPD and bullous emphysema. I have had pneumonia for several months. I have done levaquin, then 20 days of cefepime IV 3 times a day. I cleared up substantially. I am now taking an antibiotic called bactrim. I seems to be still hanging around, ie coughing up the yellow/light green sputum and tired. No temperature. Is the pneumonia ever going to go away?
Avatar f tn Unfortunately your question was accidentally posted on the bird forum. I didn't notice your question posted on the heart disease forum which may be the best place to ask. Both medications are angiotensin II receptor antagonists which will relax the blood vessels and lower BP. As to which will work best for you, that's up to your cardiologist. It's not unusual to try one medication to manage CHF only to find it's not doing as well as expected, then try another med.
Avatar n tn t a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia. Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia.
Avatar n tn do they often send someone home that was in the hospital for about a week that has chf, pneumonia, and fluid in lungs??? anything would help I don't want my husband to get worse just because they need a free bed in the hospital!!!
Avatar m tn Hello and thanks for your help. How often does a CHF patient suffers from ascites first than any type of peripheral edema? Is it a common finding or should peripheral edema ensue first? On upright percussion abdomen of patient pesents right sided tympany and left sided dullness.
1727909 tn?1314845210 I developed very noisy lungs---like the times I had pneumonia. My husband could hear it WITHOUT even needing a stethoscope. While I have seldom missed my med, it happens.....What is this happening? Should I worry? Does this mean I have CHF? Thank you! P.S. An hour after remembering the Toprol the lungs completely clear.
Avatar n tn Does it make any sense to perform dialysis on an 88 year old man who has been on a ventilator for more then a month who had pneumonia along with CHF and Copd and is now having kidney failure.
Avatar m tn He is in a nursing home and the on call doctor will not give him a chest xray because the nurses do not hear anything in his lungs. He has chf and Alzheimer's. He does not cough constantly but when he does he is in great discomfort, straining to get the cough out. It sounds like there is phleone but he can't cough it up.
Avatar f tn I have had hoarseness of varying degrees since 9/2012, when I was hospitalized with pneumonia. I was subsequently hospitalized in 12/12, 1/13, and 6/13 with pneumonia also. During the 1/13 hospitalization, they finally discovered that I had chlamydia pneumoniae and said it was likely to have been the cause of earlier episodes of pneumonia. I had a horrible, dry, hacking cough that did finally improve about mid-February.
446049 tn?1649005835 She sent me for chest xrays and started me on Albuterol inhaler, ZPak antibiotic (Azithromycin) for 5 days and mucinex. The xrays came back negative for pneumonia but indicated lungs were minimally hyperinflated. I've never smoked. I feel a bit better but still have the cough.(4 weeks now). Would Erythromycin be a better antibiotic to stop this cough?
874274 tn?1239971781 My mother suffers from CHF and is 83 years old. Over the past month or two she is complaining of nausea and dizziness. If not dizzy, she will tell me she has a light headed feeling. Her breathing is more labored, even while sitting at rest and visiting. The metal sharpness also seems to be dulling a bit. ALL of her blood work is coming out well, is this just part of the progression of the disease?
Avatar m tn My father is 85, suffering for 5 years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated to date by use of lasix diuretic. Two weeks ago, he gained water weight, and lasix did not work. The doctor prescribed Metolazone, a more powerful diuretic. This removed water, but from about 2 days after he started Metolazone, he began a downward spiral. He developed a potassium shortage, treated by a supplement.
Avatar f tn A lung infiltrate is any substance that has managed to find its way into lungs and may be caused by of a number of lung diseases such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, pulmonary edema or possible malignancies. Normal lungs show up as dark areas on x-rays because the air inside them allows the x-rays to pass through while infiltrates appear as lighter areas that are more solid that block the passage of x-rays. It is best that you discuss the result with your attending physician for proper evaluation.
