Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia vaccine for kids

pneumonia

Avatar f tn I have my seasonal flu shot and pneumonia vaccine for this season with no ill efects except pain and heaviness in the arm for a few days I asked my doctor about swine flu vaccine. He said: It depends how old you are. If you're over 65: you get the vaccine through injection on the arm and it made with dead viruses. And it is safe. He recomended I should get it. If you are young, you get that through the nose, the vaccine has live virusus. And you'll be the one decide on that.
Avatar f tn Hello I had COVID and pneumonia 3 weeks ago. I tested negative for COVID today and have no symptoms I'm just dealing with the pneumonia now which should be a few more weeks hopefully til I'm 100. Should I get the vaccine now or is it best to wait??
Avatar n tn We were advised to give her a flu shot and pneumonia vaccines. It is most likely the pneumonia vaccine that is causing the pain and the lump. She had a SEVERE reaction to the vaccine. Her arm swelled. The shot site was huge, very red, very swollen (have never seen anything like it). She also, became extremely, extremely ill (unstoppable vomitting, high fever). She was sooo sick. I had the same vaccines at the same time. the flu shot did not hurt at all.

Avatar f tn Has anyone with CFS had the pneumonia vaccine Pneumo 23 and what was your experience of it?
973741 tn?1342342773 Hi and thanks for your comment. Even though they don't always get the right strain of the flu in the vaccine the same strain of flu usually carries on a few years after that. So then they put in the previous years flu strain in the vaccine and it will provide protection from it. Last year there were a number of deaths from the flu. It was a very bad strain. So you can't predict which years are going to be mild or severe.
Avatar n tn Do you think I would be strong enough for the swine flu (H1N1) vaccine, or should I wait until I have made a full recovery? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Any ill effects on getting two shots of pneumonia vaccine within 3 years, I am unable to find anything on the net regarding this, please help. Thanks...
Avatar m tn It may not cause much harm except that it may interfere to some extent with the immune response to the vaccine. Pneumonia vaccine is an inactivated vaccine containing only a portion of the microbe; therefore the vaccines cannot possibly cause pneumococcal disease. Neither will it cause any permanent immune system damage. It should in no way cause any serious future consequences. Do consult a local health care provider and discuss all your concerns. Hope it helps. Do keep us posted.
620048 tn?1358018235 Remember back in the late 1970s or early 80s when we had our first swine flu scare and the swine flu vaccine was being pushed hard by the CDC for an epidemic that never materialized? Well, my father-in-law was in the last group getting that vaccine - before they took that dangerous vaccine off the market. That vaccine killed him. He was gone within a month of having received the swine flu vaccine.
Avatar f tn My dad has always gotten a pneumonia vaccine, but this year when he went to get one he was told he didn't need one because he was over 65. What's up with that? He turned 70 this year and hasn't ever been told that. Is this part of Obama's plan for healthcare?
898849 tn?1241811271 How important is it to get the flu and/or pneumonia vaccine, being that I have heart failure. I just heard about the recent death in Washington where the individual had a heart condition, pneumonia and swine flu. I was recently diagnosed with CHF in January, so all this is still very new to me.
419309 tn?1326503291 I appreciate you pointing that out -- I can see how my original post could lead people to think pneumonia vaccines are annual, which they are not. My understand is that there are 2 vaccines for pneumonia (for different strains), hence my husband's "2nd shot," but from here on out it'll be every 5 years. Thanks for clarifying :) ! ~eureka PS- Hope your hcv is history for good too!
518117 tn?1429276273 I never bother with the flu shots, but I did get the one for pneumonia. It's a one-timer. As for swine flu, what you don't hear in the news (because it doesn't sell ads) is that swine flue is less deadly than the usual flu, which isn't particularly deadly anyway. Reliable information on swine flu is available from the Centers for Disease Control. They offer a weekly bulletin. It will confirm what I say here.
Avatar f tn As a middle-aged adult I am thinking of getting pneumonia vaccine as well. My doctor thinks that the current vaccine - which protects against 23 specific strains of pneumonia - is probably not of much use to an adult because adults are typically stricken by strains of pneumonia not defended by the current vaccine.
279234 tn?1363105249 The ER doctor said I was too far gone for Tami-flu and started the course for pneumonia that was just starting into my left lung. The ER doctor said the same thing about the testing for the swine flu...he said it wasn't reliable..(you don't hear that on the news..do ya) I guess you could say that my whole family got it and we survived. It wasn't as scary as the news made it out to be. I'm weak and still not thinking straight.
Avatar m tn Therefore, these patients should receive annual injections of influenza vaccine. During flu season cirrhotics are part of the high risk groups that are given priority for obtaining the vaccine. As far as other levels of liver disease or treatment, there is no standard recommending all of these vaccinations. Obviously they can't hurt. As you will never have to worry about becoming infected with these viruses. Cheers!
Avatar n tn shitzu has had episodes where she wakes me during the night and is wretching, coughing, choking, gagging. this goes on for several minutes and has me quite concerned. it has also happened during the day. should i be concernedand what can i do?
Avatar n tn m assuming you are referring to the Pneumovax 23? This is the pneumonia vaccine that is recommended as routine for those age 50+ or persons age 2 or older with certain chronic conditions or in certain environmental or social situations...
676912 tn?1332812551 Bluegenie: Yeah I knew that only the mist had the live virus, but they all have significantly higher levels of thermisol than regular childhood vaccines, which is why there are significantly more reactions to flu vaccines than childhood vaccines. I don't worry about getting the flu from the vaccine :-). I have other risk factors for reactions, and so do my kids. That's why we didn't do it.
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor if I could get the pneumonia shot this year since I struggled so much last year with my second bout of Pneumonia. He said I should only get the shot if I am 65 years old or diabetic. I do not want to struggle this year like I did last year. Am I too young? Am I not eligible? Is it a health risk for me to get this shot?
Avatar n tn I got the pneumonia shot two days ago and today woke up to a very very red, hot to the touch and swollen arm from injection spot to elbow--is this normal
250701 tn?1320974765 I hope you get better soon - very sorry that you got pneumonia. Amazingly - taking an x-ray may be an item we need to remind the dr's to do. If we get the pneumonia vaccine before tx would it prevent us from getting it during tx? I'm getting a pneumonia vaccine next week. Take care - I wish you the very best.
Avatar f tn My dad has always gotten a pneumonia vaccine, but this year when he went to get one he was told he didn't need one because he was over 65. What's up with that? He turned 70 this year and hasn't ever been told that. Is this part of Obama's plan for healthcare?
163305 tn?1333668571 "...if all a vaccine really does is assist the body in producing immunities, where is the issue?" I'm not an immunologist, but I'm guessing that revving up the immune system to produce antibodies can be a stressor in itself and the body probably doesn't have unlimited resources to produce antibodies for every disease for which we can invent a vaccine. I agree that, for the majority, vaccine benefits probably far outweigh any risks.
Avatar m tn No, unfortunately otherwise they would just vax us all for pneumonia. Sepsis is a leading cause of deaths from Covid.
