pneumonia

Avatar f tn A couple more details..she's had extensive immune system testing. All normal. Allergy tests all negative. Sweat chloride test normal. She's had 3 hospitalizations, first 2 for rsv/pneumonia, the 3rd for metapneumovirus and pneumonia. We've been doing pulmicort and now qvar for the past two years. Her CT scan was with contrast. Bronchoscopy showed the middle lobe was inflamed and the lavage fluid was tinted pink, indicating inflamation.
Avatar m tn There is also an incubation period if you had viral pneumonia (the kind you catch). Bacterial pneumonia (the more dangerous one) you get as an infection after being sick before hand with a virus like a cold. It's a secondary infection to that. Hospitals are well known for being germy places. It has been a couple of days. How are you feeling now?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with everything from bronchitis to pneumonia for over a month. Steroids and Antibiotics have not worked. the doc said he noticed on my x ray that I have a diaphragmatic hernia. I asked him how I got that (I had never heard of it) and he said he suspects it was congenital. He said he looked at x ray from 5 years ago and it was also there. Two docs disputed at that time whether I had pneumonia or there was something else on the x ray.
Avatar f tn t know yet, will be retested in Feb. I stopped tx after 8 months because I had pneumonia for 6 weeks and after that some kind of infection every month. Just could not take it any longer. Thought I'd bounce back right away and am really down and out that I still feel so bad.
Avatar f tn In looking at the drug interaction information, it seems that those who are taking the corticosteriods, are even more at risk for muscle rupture and more at risk for developing pneumonia. A chest x-ray a couple of days ago confirmed that I do NOT have pneumonia now, but I can still hear sounds in my lungs when I do deep breathing.
Avatar f tn Has the mum given the baby any baby panadol, or nurofen for babies? That will help reduce the fever, however 5-days with a fever is extremely dangerous! If you can't reduce the childs fever take her to the doctor asap. I'm not a mum but my sister in law is a nurse and has 2-kids of her own. When they've had fevers in the past that she couldn't bring down she immediately took them to the hospital. Children can get very sick and it happen very quickly.
Avatar m tn it depends on the age but you should give him advil you can cool him off by putting a fan on him and but him in shorts and and t-shirt as for the seizures there called fever siezure its normal to see that in a child or infant get them when there temp so high.
Avatar n tn Buddy was diagnosed with pneumonia and has gone through a course of doggy antibiotics and 3 courses of human antibiotics. The right lung is full of fluid. He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
Avatar n tn iam just geting over pneumonia and i have started getting joint pain.
Avatar f tn A couple of months ago, after she had a bout with pneumonia (Reactive Airway Disease) and was on steroids for an extended time, we noticed my daughter had some dark hair growing on her pubic region, and we had the doctor check it out. He said it was "impressive" and sent us to have blood work done. Everything came back fine. Now, a couple months later, she just got over a bad cold that had her wheezing and back on albuterol and pulmicort via nebulizer.
Avatar f tn My son had it at 5 months old. We spent 6 days in the hospital. Lots of bugger sucking and breathing treatments and steriods.
Avatar f tn I am now 31 weeks pregnant and this morning, I was exposed to a person who has pneumonia. I went to her one-bedroom apartment and stayed at her bedroom for about half an hour. I came back to my office and did research, which tells me that if the person did not cough, it's probably okay. I don't think the person coughed while I was there but naturally, I am worried...Does anyone know anything about this? Should I call my OB and ask for a nurse to speak about this?
Avatar m tn Influenza viruses can cause a common cold or flu, leading a healthy individual to take a few days or a week off work. However, the flu can exacerbate existing health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and inflammatory disorders, leading to severe complications for individuals over 65 with a weakened immune system.
Avatar n tn Hi bibban12, The thing about pneumonia is it's just a broad term for lung inflammation, and the air sacs filling up with fluid, but it isn't a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia.

Avatar f tn Jules - Glad to hear your pneumonia was caught and treated. Pneumonia can really wreck havoc with other health condition if it is not treated ASAP. Ah I see. You have a separate iron issue with Hemochromatosis. Sorry my memory is on the blink. Thanks for the info on hemochromatosis treatment. I didn't know that about iron overload and AST and ALT. I like your attitude of pushing through for 48 weeks so you don't have to treat again. Once is plenty.

Avatar m tn The question is whether I should continue the interferon treatment when I am fighting the pneumonia. Your kind advice is very much appreciated. Many thanks. I myself has also had bronchiectasis (at lingular) though the pneumonia this time is at right lobe.
Avatar n tn Recovering from respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia can be different for people. Some recover in a week and others can take a month or more. https://www.lung.org/lung-health-and-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/pneumonia/treatment-and-recovery.html Here's another article to consider in your care. https://www.drugs.com/cg/pneumonia-aftercare-instructions.
Avatar f tn My Dad within the last month age 77- was taken to the hospital for pneumonia, after a bout of bronchitis, he was getting weak and very off balance and falling. They put in a feeding tube during the time of recovery, as he need to be put on a breathing machine to assist (not full life support).
Avatar n tn Bacterial or viral lung infection can precipitate asthma with wheezing in a person genetically predisposed to asthma. Treatment of the presumed asthma, aside from treatment of the infectious pneumonia, is appropriate. So, this could be asthma, superimposed on pneumonia. Your son could have whooping cough, despite immunization against it. If his fever and sweating with clammy skin has subsided, it is probably a sign that the antibiotic therapy has been effective and the pneumonia is clearing.
Avatar n tn I recently had my puppy who was less than 2 years old pass away from aspiration pneumonia. I tried everything from antibiotics to oxygen therapy and nebulization treatment. Unfortunately, he just couldn't handle it and 3 days later he was gone. I've been thinking about it the last couple of months and trying to understand what aspiration pneumonia is and how it caused his death. The vet explained to me that aspiration pneumonia is an infection that can feel like a chemical burn.
