pneumonia

Avatar n tn About 10 years ago,I got pneumonia from a hospital. After treatment, I still didn't feel well. One specialist said my lung was very big after seeing my X-ray film. After that,I didn't take any medicine. Recently,I breathe heavily and feel uncomfortable inside the chest after little excertion. After the pneumonia,I have whitish phlem all along.I think I have COPD.Would the doctor please advise?
620048 tn?1358018235 that is recommended for treatment of pneumonia. The steroid is probably more for your COPD then the pneumonia itself as your breathing is probably worse. In hospital they would have started you on IV steroids and then tapered you to the oral dose. most people stay in the hospital only a few days with moderate pneumonia. With the added respiratory problems maybe you would have stayed in another day or two. Depending on your respiratory status prior to the pneumonia could be 2-4 weeks.

17484539 tn?1580565249 org/diseases-conditions/copd/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20353685 Medicine has come a very long way and COPD IS often treatable. Let me know what has transpired since you posted this.
Avatar f tn you need to go to the Doctor and find out why you are having trouble taking a deep breath and then depending on what the diagnosis is that will depend on what treatment you receive For example of you have pneumonia then the treatment would be antibiotics and maybe other stuff life steroids and breathing treatments, I'm not saying that's what you have though the only way to know what is going on is to get checked out by your MD Hope you feel better soon
Avatar n tn I have COPD and bullous emphysema. I have had pneumonia for several months. I have done levaquin, then 20 days of cefepime IV 3 times a day. I cleared up substantially. I am now taking an antibiotic called bactrim. I seems to be still hanging around, ie coughing up the yellow/light green sputum and tired. No temperature. Is the pneumonia ever going to go away?
2074233 tn?1337641615 He/she may now want to check your blood count and sputum and get a chest X-ray to be sure that you don’t have pneumonia or another lung disease, not recognizable until this time. Advair is a good drug for the treatment of COPD but there have been reports that it may predispose to pneumonia. The best thing for you to do is to see your doctor soon.
Avatar n tn I have both COPD (mod) and pulmonary fibrosis. On 2 liters of O2 via a TTO.Got a bad cough about 21/2 weeks ago. Having problems bringing up the phlegm as it is temacious. have been on Levaquin for 5 days and 50 mg of Prednisone for 10 days. Now am on Azithromyocin 250 mg daily for 30 days. Just got some Mucinex. This has "wiped" me out . Been in bed for 2 days.Hoping to get stronger soon. I have tried vaporizers . Thought you might be of help.
Avatar m tn What were the particulars about your surgery, if any, that you can remember (as in how was it performed). The pneumonia was not post op, was it? Pneumonia can be associated with sepsis (infection of the blood stream) but not necessarily. You sound to have a complicated medical history which will all factor into things. When is your valve replacement surgery?
Avatar m tn Wow. You're definitely on top of it, test wise. Did they do a TB test? Sometimes the simplest tests are forgotten.... You had pneumonia in your right lung, and now you have patchy air trapping in the same lung. Your heart seems to be fine. Have the doctors said anything about COPD? It sounds like it's a lingering effect of the pneumonia :( I'm not sure COPD can be caused by Pneumonia, but it can definitely go the other way (COPD can put a person at risk for pneumonia).
Avatar f tn Have you ever had a shot to keep you from getting pneumonia? I used to have pneumonia at least once a year, but not anymore. It's been 10 years now. Also COPD can cause pleurisy, among other things. See a doctor who specializes in lung probems!
Avatar n tn Will a patient see significant improvement on their PFT test after taking medication for a period of time. This was my orginal PFT test three weeks after having pneumonia and the second set of tests were performed two months afterwards. Do most people with COPD see this much of an improvement on their later PFT results or is there a possibility that maybe what I have is more asthma seen COPD? These were the results of my first test FVC ref 3.51 pre 2.74 78% post 3.
Avatar f tn This exercise will greatly aide in the prevention of pneumonia and bronchitis. Inhalers, updraft treatments, and steriods are used to manage COPD as it gets worse. Smoking makes it worse. If you do smoke and cant quit try to just smoke outside of by a window with a fan blowing it outside. Even cutting down on second hand smoke exposure will help.
1114793 tn?1258730647 My husband is 32 years old (as of now) and first got pneumonia with very painful pleurisy (no coughing) in January of 2010, and then got it again in March of this year (2011). It was the same thing (painful pleurisy, no coughing). He also got bronchitis in February of 2010 (not long after the pneumonia) and was prescribed to use a Salbutamol inhaler until the bronchitis cleared up (which it did).
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with COPD/Emphysema about 10 years ago when I ended up hospitalized for pneumonia. In 2017 I ended up on life support for five days and my family was told I was not going to make it. I had gone into full respiratory failure due to where I live and horrible forest fires and a huge lumber mill caught fire as well. It turns out they had a rough time inserting the ventilator due to I have a small esophagus. Ever since then my voice sounds raspy and at times hard to hear.
Avatar f tn I am a seventy-plus year old man who has been living with COPD for a long time and have been taking hydroco/APAP 5.5mg. for back problems. Lately I have noticed more fluid in my lungs and more wizzing as well as shortness of breath. Could it be caused by the aspirin in hydrocodone? My pharmacist has suggested that I ask my doctor to change me to the 5.3mg.or the 10.3mg. which have less aspirin. Would the change help? Thank you.
Avatar f tn My pulse ox is 84 and in 5ltrs of oxygen have pneumonia copd and asthma what should i do
Avatar f tn Good morning I'm being treated for pneumonia just started antibiotics last nite feeling a lol worse off but my question is walking pneumonia contagious......it's funny but ct images showed fluid on right lung and I have side pain ouchee! But now more symptoms are appearing.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER yesterday… They did a chest x-ray – no pneumonia. They took two swabs in my nose – no Covid. I’m scared to death of COPD… Is this something that I need to be worried about? I have a spirometer and blow anywhere from 1500 to 3000 mL.
Avatar m tn aspiration pneumonia, COPD, and Peripheral Vascular Disease. She had a history of moderate hypertension and high cholesterol, but not PVD. She was an alcoholic as well. She was admitted to the ER with a coma scale of 4 and sepsis, which could have easily caused the clots.
Avatar f tn OK, I was on meds for pneumonia and they cleared me right up even tho no pneumonia on x ray. So I gets my x ray, a copy of the report and contact a pulmonologist for an apptment. I goes to the pulmo, gives him my x ray and the report. He gets mad cause the x ray tech read the x ray and gave a diagnosis. Said tech was not allowed to do that. Anyway, he sets me up for a pft, which I take and his tech tells me I have mild emphasema.
518117 tn?1429276273 The most dangerous thing about copd, emphysema besides smoking is getting sick, or having exaccerbations as they call them. I get the shots simply because even tho it will not prevent me from getting sick, it will prevent me from getting a severe case that could land me up in the hospital and ending up with permanant lung damage. I personally believe the shots are worth their weight in gold to people like me. I too am moderate, and also diagnosed about a year ago.
Avatar f tn https://www.webmd.com/lung/copd/ss/slideshow-copd-overview Here is an older post by a MedHelp doctor: https://www.medhelp.org/posts/Cancer/what-is-suspicious-right-upper-lobe-streaky-and-hazy-density-means/show/605916 Basically, they say that findings such as this can be anything from pneumonia to another lung ailment. Immflamation can cause these densities. Here is a comprehensive article on something to talk about with your doctor as to why you may have this immflamation. https://www.
Avatar n tn last year i had pneumonia, bronchitis and pleurisy at the same time. took me 3 months to get over. never had pneumonia nor pleurisy in my life. chronic bronchitis is part of copd. along with emphysema. you should be on some inhalers at least. that is my opinion anyway. even if it is asthma...you need to be on something. you got to watch these doctors at times. they will brush things off too easily. take care of yourself.
146298 tn?1258712247 I've had bronchitis at least 5 times, that's landed my in the ER and pneumonia twice(that i recall) that was in both lungs and almost killed me and walking pneumonia once, which was in both lungs and gave me a fever of 105. Those have been, one of them, every year, for like 5 years, before that every other year, cuz those times I had strep throat so bad I had to be taken to the ER cuz I actually could not breathe.
Avatar n tn Fluids were removed from my stomach(dark old blood) and lungs (yellowish) also blood count was low. I was diagnosted with COPD Stage II in 2009, it had been well controlled with meds, diet and exercise. Needless to say I was diagnosted with pneumonia and stayed 4 more days in hospital then moved to rehab for 2 1/2 more weeks. All this time I have been on 24/7 oxygen and doesn't look as if I'm ever going to get off of it.
